Your Inner Wild Woman with Jen le Marinel
Join me as I talk to the powerhouse that is Jen le Marinel about the role of nature in reconnecting to yourself and how reconnecting to our inner wild woman can help us thrive in all areas of our life.
Wild soul, adventurer, coach, trainer and wild guide Jen Le Marinel is on a mission to playfully push the boundaries of what’s possible in life, and to inspire and encourage other women to do the same. After leaving her high-flying and promising career in corporate financial services five years ago, Jen embarked on a series of life-changing adventures. From walking solo from Land’s End to John O’Groats, to living off grid in a yurt in the woods, to spending time with the San bushmen in the Kalahari Desert, Jen is a passionate believer in the power of nature to heal, inspire and bring forth courage. Though her business Wildfire Walks, Jen works with women business leaders who are so busy being good at what they DO, that they’ve forgotten who they ARE. Through a combination of coaching and taking these women out on retreats out in the wild, Jen helps her clients reconnect to who they really are, get clarity about what they really want, and (re)discover the courage to go out there and do it.
Affectionately dubbed “the wild woman of the woods”, when not with her clients Jen can frequently be found out and about on some new wild adventure; camped out in the woods, foraging for wild food, hiking the moors, swimming in wild water or simply hanging out in a hammock or around the fire!

Creatrix Rising with Stephanie Raffelock
Something often happens to women around the age of 45 - we get a sense of something rising. Whether you frame that as "wisdom", or "spiritual awakening" or something else, it's fascinating to explore what it could mean.
In this 100th episode of The Midlife Movement Podcast, Jo is talking to author, Stephanie Raffelock, whose latest book, "Creatrix Rising" argues that we need to consign the male-imagined "crone" archetype and replace her with the Creatrix - the power-full, dynamic feminine responsible for a surge in creativity and energy. This is a stage in life when women transform "from quiet strength to a resounding voice".
You can buy this fascinating book via Stephanie's website, where you can also find out more about the author, who herself embodies the beautiful spirit of the Creatrix.

Let's Talk Menopause with Sam Palmer
I asked menopause fitness expert, Sam Palmer, of Midlife Makeover to answer some questions about menopause asked by women in The Midlife Movement community.
We covered a multitude of issues:
Sex, Mind and the Menopause Documentary with Davina McCall
Forgetfulness: 14.45
Libido: 18.45
Sleep: 28.45
HRT (and whether suitable if you've had cancer) 31.51
How to get the best from your doctor 33.25
Leg pains 36.45
Social life 40.00
I am so grateful to Sam for bringing her brand of down to earth, common sense advice to the conversation. As she so rightly says, we shouldn't buy into the gloom and doom about menopause - there is so much we can do to help ourselves. And it's called a "pause" for a reason - this is time to take a step back and reflect on our lives.
Check out Sam's website, Midlife Makeover, for a range of programs to help you deal with the challenges of menopause.
And if you need help to work out who you want to be and how you want to spend your life beyond menopause, book a Rediscovery call with me to see if I can help you with my Transform your Midlife Program of 121 coaching.

Menopause and Mountains with Lucy Boulter
Writer, Lucy Boulter, never considered herself to be "physical". Nor did she have time for hobbies outside work. It wasn't until she was unexpectedly floored by menopausal gloom that she found herself with a new pass time - fell walking in the Lake District of England - that lifted her spirits and increased her fitness.
In this frank and honest conversation, Lucy talks to Jo about menopause and mountains and how she walked her way out of depression to a brighter future.

Mothers and Daughters with Laura Davis
I had the great pleasure of interviewing author, Laura Davis, on the publication of her searing memoir, The Burning Light of Two Stars: A Mother-Daughter Story. In this wide ranging conversation, we talk about mother-daughter relationships, healing, caring for an elderly relative and child sexual abuse, an experience that led Laura to co-author the ground breaking book on recovered memory with Ellen Bass, The Courage to Heal.
Laura’s new memoir, The Burning Light of Two Stars: A Mother-Daughter Story is the riveting story of her embattled relationship with her mother Temme, their determination to love one another, and the dramatic and surprising collision course they ended up on at the end of Temme’s life. For the millions of readers of Laura’s first book, The Courage to Heal, The Burning Light of Two Stars is both prequel and sequel, revealing in page-turning, intimate detail how Laura reconciled with the mother who betrayed her, and came to care for her in her final days.

Healing with Fiona Clark
The "Zenergiser", Fiona Clark, Joins Jo to talk about all things healing and energy systems.
We had wonderful conversation catching up on why spirituality becomes so important to many women in midlife. Fiona is an expert at helping women to find that toolbox of modalities to help them with their health and spiritual development. Fiona explained the chakra system in the most comprehensive, beautiful way I think I have ever heard!
Most of the women Fiona works with are at the midlife stage of experiencing feelings of what's next and what are they going to do as they face big life changes, with those changes sometimes forced upon us when we don't want them. Many do not like change but Fiona works with women to help them see these life changes and challenges as a gift even if we can't see it at the time.

Dream it, Plan it, Do it! with Margaret Sheppard
Midlife Movement member, Margaret Sheppard, talked to us today about turning dreams into reality.
I, for one, am so inspired by Margaret’s upcoming “gap year”. Having lost her confidence and losing sight of herself in the midst of work, caring for an elderly parent and sons with extra needs, she knew she needed to do something for herself, something she had always wanted to do. In 2022 Margaret will embark upon an interesting journey - sometimes alone, sometimes with friends and relatives.
She wants you to know that you too can do that “thing” you always wanted to do. Her advice?
- Allow yourself to dream
- Set a date
- Plan - budget and other practicalities
- Get help where needed - make it easy on yourself!
- Do it!

Janis Doherty is an entrepreneur, author, speaker, midlife mentor, energy guide and the creator of the HERwithin community. Janis mentors’ women and provides hope and healing through her programs “Find HER” and “ENERGYwithin” where she teaches women how to reconnect with the lost pieces of themselves and how to heal their body through emotional release.

She kept asking herself deeper questions and then in September 2020, she published her book Find HER - 20 Revealing Questions to Discover the Woman Within. This book shines a light on 20 questions that many women avoid, fearing what they may reveal. Midlife can be tough, but to find your answers, you need to start asking yourself the right questions.
Janis is a recent breast cancer survivor, mother to two sons in their 30s, stepmom to three in their 20s and lives in Calgary, Alberta Canada with her husband Paul. When she isn’t helping women find hope and healing, Janis spends her free time walking in nature, writing, gardening, and living the life her soul has been craving!
