Ali McGregor: Mastering Your Emotional Health & Muting What No Longer Serves You

Ali McGregor: Mastering Your Emotional Health & Muting What No Longer Serves You

You know those moments of regret that still haunt you from your PRE-growth journey? All those drunk hookups, toxic friendships, and cries for love & attention... yeah, those moments. Those are all thanks to EMOTIONAL ILLITERACY, aka the lack of control over our emotions and our inability to healthfully cope.

On the other side of the regrets, missteps, and "WTF" moments is EMOTIONAL HEALTH. And today's guest Ali McGregor is joining us to share how she found her way back to peace, self-love, and resilience after a long stint of illiteracy, unworthiness, and unmet expectations.

ALI'S TWENTIES THOUGHTS:

One of my proudest moments was finally turning inwards and truly loving my body, no longer being so nasty and negative towards it. Being able to catch myself now and having that awareness has been like letting go of 100 pounds of dead weight like I'm coming back to me. Along the way, I found out a lot of what I DON'T like. It's like finding a needle in the haystack... You just have to start somewhere and figure it out along the way. But if you sit around and wait for the moment, it's just never right. You can be CREATIVE. You don't have to be stuck in these cookie-cutter positions that everyone has already done. You might not know what you want to do today because that job might not be created. So go design & create it yourself! Pursue anything RELENTLESSLY and just go for it. And know that it's not a failure if something doesn't go right. It was just a learning lesson along the way.

Emma Musto: Quarter Life Crisis or Eat Pray Love Moment?

Emma Musto: Quarter Life Crisis or Eat Pray Love Moment?

In the first episode of this new chapter of The SheFactor Podcast, 26-year-old Emma Musto shares her real-life 20's version of Eat Pray Love (minus the divorce and Julia Roberts). In fact, it just might be better than the classic book & movie we all love…

Needless to say, Emma was never destined for a “traditional” life, starting from the time she and her single mom lived 50/50 between Romania and Miami. It took a LOT of sudden change, wrong directions, and doing what she felt like she “should” before finally realizing that society’s “norm” just wasn’t her style. Today, her style looks more like living “VanLife” with her husband from South Africa, who she manifested and met in the same night while in Bali for a yoga retreat and proceeded to travel the world with for the entire next year. You can’t make this stuff up.

EMMA'S TWENTIES THOUGHTS:

You have to do the hard things that weren’t meant for you to discover the things that WERE meant for you, even if you have to change course a million times over. All of the uncomfortable moments and complete meltdowns will ultimately end up pointing you in the right direction. What feels like a “quarter-life crisis” is really just your intuition guiding you towards what FEELS right, rather than what you THINK needs to happen. We may think we’re chasing happiness but what we really want is freedom. Freedom to be who we want to be and live life on our own terms.

Carrie Creed: You Grow Through What You Go Through

Carrie Creed: You Grow Through What You Go Through

In our twenties, it's easy for us to get caught up in what's holding us back from the life we're dreaming of. Dwelling on the latest office drama, being too hard on ourselves for not crossing everything off our to-do list, or even just feeling unmotivated by the season of life we're in. But for today's guest, the little inconveniences of her twenties were the least of her worries as she contemplated whether or not she'd be able to ever live a normal life again.

In today's episode, Carrie shares personal details regarding the challenges she’s faced in her life and how she overcame unsurmountable odds through the help of her positive mindset. By connecting to daily rituals, gratitude, and strong boundaries, she was able to persevere through hospital bedrest for over 130 days, almost having her leg amputated, nearly dying during childbirth, and later being diagnosed with PTSD. She's here to show you how to incorporate these strategies to successfully use them in your own life so you too can feel in control and maintain a positive mindset when faced with any kind of challenge.

In today's episode, we talk about:

Spending her 20's in and out of a hospital bed How perseverance and positive mindset saved her life Staying positive in our darkest moments Getting grounded in gratitude and daily routine Not falling victim to what you can't control Not comparing our stories to other people's

Jenna Reiss: Following Your Heart & Breathing Into Being You

Jenna Reiss: Following Your Heart & Breathing Into Being You

"Follow your heart." We've heard it over and over again since we were kids, but what does it really mean? In traditional terms, the word courage comes from Latin and it means "acting with your heart." So, following your heart could mean having the courage to do what you think is right. But how the heck do you know what's right when your heart is telling you one thing, your head is telling you another, and everyone around you is telling you even MORE?! Just breathe. Easier said than done in this busy busy world we live in, right? Lucky for you, today's guest is an expert in just that... breathing! Jenna Reiss is a healer, writer, and Breathwork Meditation Coach focused on helping you connect to your innate wisdom and intuition, or what Jenna refers to as your Wild Heart. In today's episode, we talk about: Not knowing where to start or feeling "bad" at meditation How to get out of your own way and connect to your intuition Tori & Jenna's personal healing experiences through breathwork What it means to connect to your "wild heart" How to surrender & the magic that is waiting on the other side once you do Find your girl gang at theshefactor.com! Brenna Guinan: Keeping It REAL All The FCKN Time, Even When It's Hard

On this week's episode, the tables are turning (literally). Tori invites a dear friend and host of the REAL FCKN TALK podcast Brenna Guinan on the show to interview her about the mental and physical health issues she's been facing for the last several months. Brenna may be a licensed therapist and mental health counselor, but she's also real AF and doesn't hold back when it comes to talking about her own sh*t, too. Tori and Brenna sit down to talk about the deep stuff, with comedic relief (duh). Brenna started REAL FCKN TALK to show the world that we all have our sh*t. The podcast is dedicated to breaking down the walls of everyone's "perfect" life, sharing open and honest conversations around mental health struggles, difficulties, and what the aftermath of it all looks like -- keeping it 100% REAL all the fckn time. Rocío "Luz" Cadena: You Are a Human BEING, Not a Human DOING

Wondering where we've been for the last month? Host Tori Ganahl is back and ready to give you a glimpse into the ups and downs of her life during the last several months. Over the next few weeks, Tori's laying it all out on the table as she brings on guests (old and new) to dive deeper into the struggles she's been facing. During this week's episode, we're throwing it back all the way to November where it all began featuring an interview with Rocío "Luz" Cadena, the founder of Life of Leisure, all about burnout. Luz's fascination with leisure started at a young age, growing up in a small Mexican village where she spent most of her time being, imagining, thinking, and daydreaming (rather than doing, producing, or worrying about the future). After living a glorious "millennial retirement" studying abroad and unemployed for several months stateside, Luz decided to share her passion for holistic living with others through her now digital global platform, providing creative, overwhelmed women transcend the toxic ethos of busyness, burnout and workism through community, virtual + in-person events and coaching services. In this episode, we talk about… What "leisure" really means The toxic culture of busyness that leads to massive burnout How to identify the early signs of burnout (before it's too late) The importance of a holistic lifestyle and self-discovery Incorporating more playfulness, joy, and FUN into our daily lives Find your girl gang at theshefactor.com! Cheyenne Baker: Naps (& Snacks) Are Necessary

Cheyenne Baker: Naps (& Snacks) Are Necessary

Ever wonder how a people-pleasing perfectionist defines success?! It's probably not what you’d think... Today's guest on our mini-series Success in 6 Minutes has a pretty simple formula for success: Naps (and snacks, duh...), Gratitude (all the blessings, rainbows & unicorns), and making sure your close circle is elevated. But it hasn't always looked like that.  Cheyenne Baker is a 24-year-old with a penchant for expressing her thoughts through writing and amusing rants on her IG stories. With an eclectic style and a heart of service, Cheyenne helps women end perfectionism and leap out of their quarter-life crises. On any given day, you can find her trying to maintain a zen vibe with tacos, tequila, and booty rubs. Cheyenne fully embraces a lifestyle of “both, and..” where two seemingly opposite ideas are combined to beautifully embody her experience. A proud proclaimer of all things sophistiratchet; Cheyenne holds space for those in her many circles to twerk and meditate, wear stilettos and sneakers, eat arugula salads, and kool-aid pickles.  Get your ticket to the SheLeads Success Summit to join Cheyenne's workshop, Not Your Perfect Perfectionist: Many people think they have to be the stereotypical a-type person to struggle with perfectionism. That's simply not true. Melissa Herrera: Well-Behaved Women Seldom Make History

Melissa Herrera: Well-Behaved Women Seldom Make History

In honor of Women's History Month, we're asking ourselves... "What does it mean to be a woman?" For today's guest Melissa Herrera, being a woman means being resilient. Melissa is the host & creator of Mimosa Sisterhood, a women’s history & lifestyle podcast dedicated to celebrating & amplifying women’s voices, past and present. But don't mistake her for a historian. What started as two girlfriends in college studying feminist history who regularly ditched class to drink at the bar, has now turned into a weekly celebration of women's stories with Melissa's unique spin of "equal parts feminist and equal parts party girl"! Melissa's mission is to set the record straight about women in history by sharing captivating stories of women whose stories were either swept under the rug or completely written over. And to celebrate this month of HERstory, we asked Melissa to bring three of her favorite must-know women of history to talk about on the podcast today! In this episode, we chat about… Healing our wounds by learning other women's stories Three of her fav women in history (see below 😉 ) The lessons she's learned about womanhood by studying history What being a woman means to her Woman #1: Girl Scouts Founder Juliette Gordon Low The revolutionary part she played in WWI and her mission to empower women to help one another while helping humanity How her legacy lives on to impact millions of young girls still today Woman #2: The Canadian Rosa Parks, Viola Desmond Her empowering story of entrepreneurship wiped from history (or so she thought) as a result of racial injustice The redemption and justice that came 50+ years after her death Woman #3: World-renowned photographer and pioneer Gerda Taro  Her courageous and iconic career as a war photographer falsely credited to an alias her ex-boyfriend claimed as his own Her scandalous death thought to have been an intentional hit due to her outspoken stance on anti-fascism Find your girl gang at theshefactor.com! Let’s talk WOMANHOOD. In honor of International Women’s Day, we have a special two-part series this week talking all about the parts of being a woman we rarely ever talk about… periods, sex, desire, and honoring our bodies. Gone are the days where women used to go away together to celebrate the coming of their period under the moon, dancing and connecting over this beautiful thing that only we as women get to experience. When did we make talking about our periods “awkward” or feel “icky” about bringing it up in conversations with not only men but with each other? Katrina Swanson discovered her passion for hormone health after dealing with her own personal struggles with her period, being diagnosed with PCOS, and realizing the need for more education around our periods and menstrual cycles. She is now a voice for women’s wellness and hormonal health, empowering women to discover their feminine power by connecting to their cycles. Travel The World For Free (But Stop Anti-Asian Hate Crimes FIRST) with Travel-Hacker Julia Menez

We had been planning on sitting down to record a podcast with one of our SheFactor members Julia of @geobreezetravel since last May but put it off until it was time to talk all about FINANCE (she IS the queen of travel hacking and credit card points, duh). Little did we know, the timing of it all would surface a much more alarming conversation… Ever since the rise of COVID-19, there has been a MAJOR increase in hate-crimes against the Asian community. But as much as people want to believe that these crimes are “pandemic-related”, the reality is racism against Asians is much more deeply rooted. In the last several weeks, Asians all across America (especially elder Asians) have been brutally murdered and attacked. So why is no one talking about it? Julia joins us today for an extremely vulnerable conversation addressing what exactly is happening in the Asian community right now, and how we can answer their cries for help (plus some fun travel hacking tips, of course). In this episode, we talk about… The hate-crimes and murders devastating the Asian community The lack of coverage and solidarity for Asian-Americans "Meme activism" vs. REAL activism The history of racism against Asian-Americans + her own personal experience as a Filipino woman How non-Asian's can bring attention + awareness to what's happening Travel hacking, the best credit cards on the market + using these tools to do good in the world! PLEASE SHARE THIS EPISODE TO BRING MORE ATTENTION TO THIS ISSUE. This is NOT about download numbers, double taps, or monetization. The Cure to Self-Sabotage with Lightworker Brit Carmichael

Ever heard of the 7-or-Above Rule? Today's guest Brit Carmichael lives by it, and it's a great tool to use to start your 2021 off right. Brit is a lightworker who found her calling to the meta-physical world (crystals, tarot cards, psychic medium superpowers...) by divine intervention from her deceased step-father who she'd barely ever known. But before you think this episode is all "woo-woo" and spiritual, stop right there. Brit's known for her ability to make women feel beautiful - inside & out. After years behind a chair as a hairstylist, she realized her true passion was helping women awaken their authentic self and reclaim their power through coaching, her online course Shine School®, and her new Shine From the Inside Oracle.   She's here to spread her sparkle magic, lay down the facts on self-love, and help you to start living your best life in 2021. And her spiritual truth-tellin' style may just make you want to start exploring your intuitive side. Oh, and did we mention she does a tarot card pull for 2021? In this episode, we talk about... 21 Days of She: KINDNESS (#TBT Edition)

What if we told you, the most important way to give doesn’t require any money at all? Kindness is one thing that you'll never regret. Whether it's sharing a smile, a compliment, or an act of helping one another, those moments can change the entire direction of our day. And the thing about kindness is… it's sort of contagious! One smile you give leads to that person smiling to another, to another, to another. Today is a throwback to exactly this time last year where we interviewed Lauren Mims of the Bad Bettie Project, someone who has figured out an incredible way to pay it forward to thousands of women in her community.

EPISODE 21: 3 Ways to Take Care of Each Other with Lauren Mims, Executive Director of the Bad Bettie Project

Lauren Mims joins Tori to talk about her passion project, the Bad Bettie Project. After moving to Colorado following the tragic loss of her fiance, Lauren found herself struggling to find community and meaningful friendships in her new city. The Bad Bettie Project was born out of the need for sisterhood and friendship and has since blossomed into a resource for young women to find success. They host monthly meet-ups and events to encourage IRL interactions while also using their online community (just awarded & recognized as one of Facebook's strongest group communities) as a hub for anything you might need. Additionally, they have a gift shop where all proceeds go directly to our Emergency Bettie Fund to support any members in financial crisis. Lauren shares how it got started, how they focus on giving back, and their goals for the upcoming year!

Unleash The Power Within with Host Tori Ganahl

This Thanksgiving hits different for most of us. Maybe it’s the first time without your family, spending it solo, or having a small Friendsgiving feast. Wherever you land, Thanksgiving this year allows us to reflect on the traditions and memories that we might have taken for granted.

But the one thing that doesn’t change? The one constant we can all rely on? Gratitude. Tori shares her biggest takeaways from Tony Robbin’s Unleash The Power Within event she attended last week. She reflects on how precious this life is, and how embracing her memories has allowed her to get grounded in gratitude and love now more than ever.

In this episode, she talks about…

👊 The power of resetting your energy

👊 3 decisions that determine your destiny

👊 Living life in a beautiful state

👊 Letting go of limiting beliefs

👊 Getting anchored in memories to manifest your dreams

Stick it out to the end to hear about the 21 Days of She: 21 days of giveaways, 21 days of NEW podcasts, 21 chances to win the new & improved SheMembership, and 21 tools to dominate 2021 before it’s even here. You Are, & Everything is Possible with Natalie Levy, International Women's Empowerment Coach

You Are, & Everything is Possible with Natalie Levy, International Women's Empowerment Coach

Natalie Levy's lust for life is deep-rooted. After losing her mom to breast cancer at 11, she fell into a deep depression, leaving her feeling unworthy of anything that felt good - love, happiness, self-esteem. That depression lasted 11 years. And somewhere between an eating disorder and overindulgence, it dawned on her that to create the life she dreamed of and to make a real and lasting impact on the world, she would have to learn to love and heal herself first. And so where is she now?

...spending her quarantine in Tulum, Mexico, where's she able to live her dream of empowering women to attract abundance in all areas of their lives and believe that everything is possible. But the beauty isn't in where she's ended up, but in the journey that led her to this moment. She always knew she was destined for something more than the life she was living, and never gave up searching for that desire to change people's lives. Join us as we dive into all the cringe-worthy and inspiring moments of her journey, and learn more about her upcoming workshop during our SheCares Wellness Summit Everything is Possible: Attracting Abundance in All Areas of Your Life!

In her workshop, Natalie breaks down the "buzzwords" of personal development into real and tangible steps to attracting abundance into your life as you lay a foundation that you can carry with you far into the future. If there’s an area of your life where you are dreaming of more peace and success, this is the workshop (& podcast!) for you.

Overflow Your Cup with Motivational Speaker Jaclyn DiGregorio

Overflow Your Cup with Motivational Speaker Jaclyn DiGregorio

Self-care is SO important, but most often, we think about it as a reaction to circumstances in our life or a means to de-stress and relax. But what if you thought of self-care as much more than that? Today's guest Jaclyn DiGregorio's perspective of self-care is a game-changer. In this week's episode, Jaclyn walks us through her journey of failure and how that led her to use self-care as a way to amplify her success.

Like a lot of us in our twenties, Jaclyn sought after a 9-5 job that led her to question what she really wanted out of life. She was constantly wondering, "Is this it? Is this the best it's ever going to get?" With no experience, no savings, and tons of failure under her belt, she took a leap of faith and started her business.

Now she's living out her dream life at 25 years old! And here's the cool part - she's no different from you. She believes that we all have the potential inside of us to create lives we absolutely love (is that on-brand for SheFactor, or what?). Unfortunately, our brains like to come up with lies about why this might be possible for someone else, but not for us. The good news is, that those things are simply not true. You deserve to live a beautiful, joy-filled, abundant, fulfilling life, where you say yes to the things that light you up inside, no matter how scary they may be.

In this episode, we talk about:

☀️ Why mindset is the key to success
☀️ How to get out of your comfort zone
☀️ Why failure is inevitable (and how to take it like a champ)
☀️ How to find courage even in moments of fear

Get your ticket to the SheCares Wellness Summit to tune into Jaclyn's workshop How to Use Self-Care to Amplify Your Success: Using Your Vibration & Manifestation Principles to Achieve Your Biggest Goals. In this workshop, you'll learn about how self-care is an indispensable tool for success. Specifically, we will dive into how the universal laws and principles of manifestation can be applied to the topic of self-care, and more importantly how this can help you achieve your biggest goals.

Get Jaclyn's book Stop Getting In Your Own Way: A No B.S. Guide to Creating the Business of Your Dreams today!

Don't Let Fear Have The Final Say with Brit Barron, Author of Worth It

Don't Let Fear Have The Final Say with Brit Barron, Author of Worth It

What's the difference between happiness and joy? And how about joy and fear? It seems like an obvious answer, right? But what if joy and fear were much more similar to each other than joy and happiness?

Today's guest is full of amazing insight -- insight that she's sharing with us today, but also as one of our keynote speakers at the SheCares Wellness Summit! You may know her as Rachel Hollis' BFF or author of the book Worth It, but today you get a deeper look into who Brit Barron really is and how her journey has shaped her into who she is today.

Brit spent the first part of her life in the evangelical church and eventually became a pastor at a megachurch at the ripe age of 26. After peaking too soon, she started to understand more about herself, her dreams, and her sexuality. She met a woman named Sami that changed, saved, and transformed her whole life. Meeting Sami, leaving the church, coming out, and getting married has given Brit a deep-seated passion for reminding people that choosing freedom is always worth it no matter the cost. And an equal passion for finding joy every single day, making time to have as much fun as possible on this journey called life.

During her SheCares workshop, she'll talk about how to make decisions for YOU. How do we overcome the idea that being selfish is bad and embrace the reality that when we are able to make decisions for ourselves, be true to who we are - we create an environment for those around us to do the same? Get your ticket to find out!

Fight Like Peloton Instructor Kendall Toole

Fight Like Peloton Instructor Kendall Toole

Peloton Instructor Kendall Toole, aka FITx, lives by two mantras. The first is Feminine, Intelligent, Tough - which makes up her nickname of FITx. The second: “They can knock you down, but they can NEVER knock you out.”

In this episode, we throw it back to our SheGrad Party where Kendall talks about how boxing brought her out of her darkest moments. After years and years of struggling with perfectionism, mental health, anxiety, and depression, she found joy and confidence in fitness. With every punch she threw, she gained the energy to fight, igniting a spark within her. And now she helps others bring that undeniable power and pride into all they do. Regardless of any pressures telling you to minimize who you are and what you’re meant to give, you have to keep fighting.

“I am not perfect. I am so far from it and my depression and anxiety are something I deal with daily (some days better than others), but the truly beautiful realization is that its these flaws, vulnerabilities, and insecurities that make us unmistakably human. To be human I think the highest praise you can receive; it’s not about the subjective standard, but about living as wholly and truly to YOUR full capabilities in mind, body, and spirit.” Check out the video here!

For the month of October, we’re talking about FAVOR. Favor is what fills your soul. By giving back to others in your time, talent, and treasure, you’re in turn filling your own soul. And this month, we're giving back to YOU with a super exciting event happening at the end of October. Tune in to learn more...

Taking Back Your Power with Rachel Mahloch, Self-Defense Expert

Taking Back Your Power with Rachel Mahloch, Self-Defense Expert

As women, we don't always have the freedom to walk freely on the street without the fear of something bad happening to us. What happens when you’re faced with danger? Or even when you get that feeling in your gut that something isn’t right? Are you overcome with a paralyzing fear? Uncertainty? Doubt in yourself and your ability to fight back? What if you replaced that fear with courage and confidence?

This week's guest Rachel Mahloch (aka BattleMom) empowers women to replace that fear with courage and confidence through self-defense, breathing & visualization. But she does her work from a place of compassion through her own personal experience. She may be small (coming in at only five feet tall), but this girl is MIGHTY. Her black-belt level of mastery in martial arts may help, but what's changed her life, and the lives of the women she's taught and mentored on this journey to strong, is the theory that it only takes a small amount of technical training for women to grow both their mental and physical strength. And her diverse background... like REALLY diverse (careers spanning opera, finance & martial arts)... has allowed her to create a comprehensive self-defense training style that is uniquely her own.

Our safety is a freedom and a choice that can be taken from our control in an instant, but it shouldn't be. You have the right to wear whatever you want, walk freely on the street by yourself, take a subway without feeling unsafe. That's YOUR freedom. So it's time to take it back and defend it! Are you ready, ladies?

Stay tuned for an exclusive self-defense workshop with Rachel as part of our upcoming event, the SheCares Wellness Summit! More info coming next week...

Finding YOUR Freedom with SheFactor Founders Heidi & Tori Ganahl

Finding YOUR Freedom with SheFactor Founders Heidi & Tori Ganahl

ICYMI, it's September… and that means that the election is right around the corner, girlfriend. So this month we're diving right into it with this month's theme: FREEDOM. At SheFactor, Freedom is all about finding your voice, forming an educated opinion, and staying engaged with your community and fellow citizens! It's about being the change you want to see in the world, and being involved in the political process as a voter, representative, and voice in our democracy. 🇺🇸

Curious about why Freedom is one of our nine spheres? Or just wondering how to get really excited about politics? We know it's not the flashiest topic, but it's one of the most important. In today’s episode, you’re going to hear directly from our own founding ladies, Heidi & Tori Ganahl – taking you back to history class (but WAY more fun and WAY more exciting).

No matter what your political beliefs are, or if you have yet to form any, stick with us - this month we'll give you the resources to reflect on your own values and beliefs and learn about how you can be a more active member of society. And you can count on us to be COMPLETELY unbiased, neutral, and only give you the cold, hard facts (no fake news here, ladies 😉).

Allowing Love and Loss to Co-Exist with Natalie Orozco, Founder of Sunday Mournings

Allowing Love and Loss to Co-Exist with Natalie Orozco, Founder of Sunday Mournings

The last few months have brought a LOT of loss... loss of our freedom to hug our loved ones, loss of jobs and financial stability for some, loss of our daily routine, and for most of us, loss of trips, plans, weddings, relationships, and so much more. While you might not consider what you're feeling GRIEF, we're here to tell you IT IS. And there's no one who understands grief better than Natalie Orozco-Moxley who lost her whole family by the age of 19. Now 28, she's turned that experience of loss into Sunday Mournings, an online home for love and loss. Natalie joins us to have a lighthearted and inspiring conversation about how we can all cope with the loss we're dealing with, no matter how big or small.

Especially when you're quarantined with someone, emotions can quickly ignite intense moments. In this episode, Natalie leads us through a conversation full of hope on topics like:

🌼 How we can have difficult conversations that are still rooted in love.

🌼 How you can be a supportive partner - and ask for the support you need - when going through tough times together (like the loss of a job, financial struggles, being away from family, etc.)

🌼 Allowing love and loss to co-exist, and how we can move through the loss of a relationship while having self-love and hold space for one without excluding you from experiencing the other.

Sunday Mournings is launching its online community this summer, and look out for their grief gift boxes are coming in Fall 2020! If you're feeling grief and don't know where to turn, or just want someone to talk to that understands, don't hesitate to reach out to Natalie via Instagram or shoot her an email at hey@sundaymournings.com to set up a time to talk.

A She Story: Amplifying Black Voices with Amber Crossen

A She Story: Amplifying Black Voices with Amber Crossen

SheFactor is built to empower and equip young women, and be a positive place where women can turn to for support and encouragement. We are heartbroken for our country, but especially our community, surrounding the death of George Floyd. We acknowledge the brokenness so many of us feel and hope we can use our platform to positively inspire change.

On today's podcast, we have special guest Amber Crossen, a Communication and Content Manager for a human rights organization in Chicago. We take a walk back through the history of the Civil Rights Movement and talk about how we can prevent history from repeating itself. She shares her passion for amplifying black voices and gives her advice on how to support the POC in your life and educate yourself on the current state of the world. We also dive into how to be an advocate and activist in society today.

We hope this episode educates our community on the severity of this week's events and how we can best move forward to not only support each other but empower and equip each other to do better. If you need support during this time, please reach out to us via email at hello@theshefactor.com or DM us on Instagram. We are here for you. 💜

Our Fave Moment: Amber gives her perspective on the protests happening across our country and shares her favorite quote from poet Lindsay Young: "Resistance is NOT a one-lane highway. Maybe your lane is protesting, maybe your lane is organizing, maybe your lane is counseling, maybe your lane is art activism, maybe your lane is surviving the day. Do NOT feel guilty for not occupying every lane. We need them all."

Fate, Frats & Friends with Cassie Little, Founder of Her Sorority Journey

Fate, Frats & Friends with Cassie Little, Founder of Her Sorority Journey

Today’s guest is Cassie Little, founder of Her Sorority Journey. She is on the podcast today to share her own sorority story, and how she got to where she is today. They talk about the goals of Her Sorority Journey, and what they hope to do for that community in college, and even beyond. If you weren’t part of a sorority in college, this episode is still for you! There are many different communities in college and after that these ideas apply to.

Key Takeaways:

[2:45] - Cassie joined Sigma Kappa at Arizona State in 2014. She talks about her full immersion and involvement. Her sorority opportunity opened the door for her to become a leadership consultant.

[5:29] - Cassie talks about the dichotomy between what the sorority community is known for and what they truly provide. While there is truth to their reputation, Cassie talks about changing the stigma to focus on the intentional community and tools and resources for women to grow. She now does this professionally with her company.

[7:40] - While she didn’t have a desire for “leadership” growing her up, her desire had been to find ways to do more, particularly for others. She talks about the moment she knew she would become chapter president, and how she was captivated by the opportunity to serve and give to people that she loves.

[11:15] - We are not meant to journey alone. Other people feel the same feelings, maybe in the same way. The other women who come alongside you can enhance your sorority journey, and will probably be the ones to support you through difficult times post-grad.

[14:43] - Her Sorority Journey is an online community for women to find tools, resources, and other women in similar seasons of their journey to be reminded that they are not alone. Cassie talks about where this idea came from, and what aspects she wanted to focus on to provide value to the sorority experience.

[19:15] - Cassie and Tori talk about the lasting impact many of their mentors and advisors have made on their personal lives. They provide an example of what kind of friends and sisters we should be for each other.

[25:05] - Vulnerability is essential, but not always praised or received well. Don’t let the people who take your vulnerability prevent you from being vulnerable with others in the future. Being vulnerable is how we connect with each other; people connect when we are real and authentic.

[28:43] - Accountability is a form of friendship. You need people in your circle who are going to keep you on track with your goals. They will be the ones to help move you forward in life.

[31:05] - Cassie talks about her long-term goals for Her Sorority Journey. In the future, she hopes to extend the support to women in their young adult and professional lives beyond their collegiate years. We don’t encourage women enough to take risks and pursue spaces that they’re passionate about, and Cassie wants to help women understand their worth.

[35:32] - Every day we choose to be present, whether that’s in a sorority or in our career. You choose to follow through on the promise of the experience, and choose to deliver on what you said you could do.

[37:10] - Cassie shares her advice for recent grads going out into the world. One of the biggest things is how easy it is to make friends in college - you don’t necessarily have to keep that mean friend when you leave college. You don’t owe it to anyone to keep up with everyone.

[40:15] - With the people that matter, you’ll pick up where you left off when y

20 Things I Wish I Knew At 20 with Host Tori Ganahl

20 Things I Wish I Knew At 20 with Host Tori Ganahl

The topic of today’s episode focuses on the top 20 things Tori wishes she had known in her 20’s, dedicated to the class of 2020. She shares her list and some of her best advice on each topic. Your 20’s are some of the most important times as you begin to define the path of your life.

Key Takeaways:

[0:55] - HUGE NEWS! The SheFactor will be hosting the ultimate virtual graduation party for the women of the class of 2020. There will be workshops focused on launching your life post-grad, a Keynote speech by Bethany Hamilton, and Caitlin Bristow as the emcee.

[3:20] - Tori shares her list of the 20 things she wishes she had known in her 20’s, starting with #1: Finding friends — Finding people who will support you in this life is so important — find people who are passionate about the same things you are. Be open, be vulnerable, and be picky.

[6:20] - #2: Keeping your friends — As you enter your 20’s, the pace of people’s lives really starts to change. Keeping your friends can be difficult when you’re on different paths, but the relationships worth keeping should be easy. Set up times to check-in and stay connected.

[9:52] - #3: Letting go of toxic relationships — start looking at your friends, who they are, how they work, and what their intentions are in your relationships. Tori made a list of her important relationships and answered these questions. Focus your time and energy on relationships that aid your well-being.

[14:27] - #4: Finding your passion — Just because you got a degree in a certain thing, doesn’t mean you have to stick with that in your career. Find things that get you excited and make you feel passionate, so you can take the first steps in finding the right career path for you. Tori shares how you can use mind mapping to help with this.

[18:58] - #5: Conquering fear — There are a lot of unknowns in our 20’s. The feelings of uncertainty and discomfort is a sign of growth. Working through this fear is where you learn the most about what your limits are and what brings you the most joy.

[23:15] - #6: It’s okay to not have something that you’re super passionate about — if you don’t have it all figured out now, that’s okay! Creating a life of passion is about knowing who you are and doing what you love, without holding on to other expectations. Advocate for yourself and the life you want.

[25:51] - #7: Your dream job — your early job choices affect your future career. Your first jobs can define you and may end up boxing you into a job you don’t love. It’s also important to find a company that aligns with your values.

[29:07] - #8: Work-Life balance — the thinner we spread ourselves, the more we’re sacrificing. The SheFactor spheres help you determine where you can focus your energies to get a more holistic balance in your life.

[32:58] - #9: Finding the one — giving and spending your time with the right person is precious. Make a list of what you want in a relationship, and if someone doesn’t measure up, don’t waste your time. Everything shifts when you make a list and you hold yourself accountable to it.

[35:50] - #10: Starting a family — everything changes when you decide to start a family. Kids become your top priority, so prepare yourself for that reality now. Give yourself time to make clear decisions about family planning.

From Hard-of-Hearing to Handbags with Danielle Marie, CEO of Grip Handbags

From Hard-of-Hearing to Handbags with Danielle Marie, CEO of Grip Handbags

Danielle Marie's journey hasn't been an easy one, but she's a true example of perseverance, hard work, and resilience.  As a designer and entrepreneur, Danielle shares her perspective on what it’s like to live with a disability through her own shared experiences and celebrates diversity in fashion and lifestyle. Born with severe hearing loss in both ears, she decided to turn her ultimate weakness into an admirable strength. Despite being told she would never be successful as an entrepreneur, she defied the odds and started Grip Handbags.

The Grip silhouette, shaped like a half-moon right side up (similar to SheFactor's logo of two half-moon's brought together to form an "S" as a symbol of women coming together to empower one another), is also a symbolic reinforcement of the cut-out feature initiated on Danielle’s original award-winning clutch, which is responsible for the launch of her business and career as a designer. Since its establishment in 2015, Grip Handbags has been featured in InStyle Magazine, British Vogue, Accessories Magazine, WWD.com, Bellus Magazine, Starlight Music Chronicles, and on a number of public figures and fashion blogs.

A message from Danielle Marie:

" I chose the name Grip Handbags for my business primarily because the word 'grip' reminded me of power and the ability to take action; the power to make good choices, the power of self-acceptance, the power of positively influencing those around me. Basically, it’s about 'gripping' onto what matters. Because actions speak louder than words. ⠀

Growing up, I’ve been told countless times by people close to me who I thought I could trust and confide in that I was never good enough, that I wasn’t capable of big things because I have a disability, that I wouldn’t amount to anything because of my baggage...⠀

I used to think why me? I would stay up countless hours at night and just pray for answers. Suddenly, something dawned on me. I mustered up the courage to confront the negativity. I basically faced everyone (in my mind) who tried to bring me down and told them to get a grip!! ⠀

Grip Handbags gives me the opportunity to prove all the nay-sayers wrong. It gives me a platform to showcase my creativity, my passions in life, my self-acceptance. I have been so afraid to admit my flaws. For so long, I've been hiding my disability; I almost denied it. Now I realize it is what makes me unique and sure, it will likely make people look twice - but, just like my bags. For those who continue to stick around, I thank you all for being on this journey with me. For those who are new, thank you for giving me a chance. Never doubt what you’re made of!"
