099: Mat Chat
Many times I’ve counseled the class with “if you’re making mistakes, you’re doing it right”. That being said some mistakes can be the hardest lessons for us as students of the martial arts. One such mistake I made was trying to go to hard with my Judo teacher Mr. Shiina when I was a much younger man; me in my mid 30’s and he in his late 60’s at the time. He was encouraging me to work on “my throws” while he defended with the gentlest of touches. I could not throw him! Truth be told it frustrated me so much that in an effort to win rather than practice I almost hurt him. Needless to say the class was over and he never engaged with me in that way again. I violated something so deep between the student and teacher because I couldn’t see past my own competitiveness and insecurities that I damaged the relationship, in some ways forever. What I learned through years of reflection was that lots of the ways in which I had been indoctrinated prevented me from seeing that Sensei was only trying to help me. The “grind and hustle”, “win at all cost” mentality had flipped the switch and was running the show rather than me the student of this great teacher and now I have to live with it forever.
Where in your life are you not seeing that someone is really just trying to support and lift you up? That your poor out look is destroying a very good relationship? What can you do to salvage the relationship before it’s damaged beyond repair? The hardest part of this lesson for me is on some level knowing that I missed out on the deepest parts of what he had to offer as a teacher because I couldn’t keep my own ego in check.
Love you

096: The Gentle Art Podcast: A Gift for you
These affirmations are an integral part of my daily process. They are uplifting and transformative. Once the recording process was completed, my plan was to sell the track on iTunes. But today I was inspired to do something different.
I am aware that this is a very unique holiday season. Travel and traditions may not get honored as they usually do. Feelings and emotions might be heightened and stress levels can be quite high.
That’s why I’d like to offer you this Affirmation Meditation recording as my Christmas gift to you. My hope & intention is that you use it either as a gentle meditation or a relaxing way to wind down from the day.
Ultimately, the affirmations are designed to align us with the metaphysical truth that we are whole, perfect and complete now and we posses all we ever need inside our relationship with the Divine consciousness that is Love.
Once again, thank you for all of the support. We hope you enjoy!
Love you! - Gene Dunn

077: Stories
In early September 1985, I just turned 16 and was questioning if there was really a God or Divine Power in the Universe. How could there be when I was experiencing so much anger, rage, fear, and trauma? And I was feeling the same for the world - there wasn’t much evidence of Good from my perspective at the time. This story very clearly illustrates the outcome of that line of thinking. And that line of thinking got me to a bad place very quickly.
When faced with the worst of it, my only recourse was to lean on Divine Love. I immediately knew where to go internally. Through all the chaos, violence, and fear the situation kept presenting, Divine Love was there, protecting and guiding me the whole way through.
This was a pivotal experience in my life that fortified my relationship with the Divine.
I gently encourage you to reflect on your own life. Can you recall a time that you strongly felt Divine Love’s presence? How did that experience impact your life?
Love you!
