On this episode, I speak with acclaimed producer and filmmaker Brad Starks who works and lives in Maui. He survived the devastating wildfire that came close to his "front door." This episode is more laid back in terms of production and really gives voice to the story at hand.

My Guest:

Brad Starks is an incredibly accomplished individual—he grew up in Rockford, Illinois and has held many different positions over the years including fashion photographer, creative director, filmmaker, producer, and currently an actor based in Maui. Mr. Starks has operated studios in New York, Chicago, Madrid, Spain, and Tokyo.  During his work as a fashion photographer, he had the pleasure of working with fashion icons like Nicolle Miller and Oscar De La Renta along with Emanuel Ungaro.

An impressive career across the map, with works of his published in Vogue, GQ, Vanity Fair and many more— he’s worked on the sets of the Real Housewives of Beverley Hills, HGTV’s Hawaii Life, and on networks like A&E and MTV.  Mr. Stark has been living in Hawaii for years and when the wildfires began, he was there—it was unlike anything he’d ever seen. He says he’ll never forget how close the fire came to his front door.

This is an update.

On this episode, I examine the history on how the U.S stole Hawaii and the present fight to return land to Native Hawaiians.  Then, I speak to a reporter who's been following this story since 2013.  His name is Rob Perez and he tells me his personal family story related to it.  

In this special report, I tell the story of the 1995 Chicago heat wave, which claimed the lives of more than 700 people in a week. It was dangerous, deadly, a disaster for the city that lasted a long time. Morgues over capacity with bodies still flowing in, and a repeat in 1998, this time in Texas and other parts of the nation. 2023 is no joke in comparison to these two unmitigated natural climate catastrophes. This summer has been extremely hot, with an unforgiving and sweltering sun bearing down on billions unable to take it.

I will not be publishing an episode tomorrow, in need of rest so I will return next weekend.

In this episode, I tell a relatively forgotten story about one of the worst atrocities to happen in slavery. It's a story that's not well-known but as horrific and sadistic as it is, its history still infects the city of New Orleans to this day. I talk about how this abomination is why no slave could have had a "personal benefit" from the diabolical institution. This is in relation to Florida announcing new guidelines for middle school kids that speak on the matter. Next, the trial of classified documents for Former President Trump now has a set date as criminal inquiries ramp up in other states. Then as the nation and world deal with a deadly heatwave, migrants in Arizona are left caged outside to fend for themselves.

On this episode, I talk about a report published in The Houston Chronicle regarding the "inhumane" treatment of migrants at the Texas southern border. The reports include razor wire injuring migrants, a four-year-old girl passing out from heat exhaustion, a 19-year-old girl having a miscarriage, and more. Texas Governor Greg Abbott stands by idly amidst the damming reports. After that, I describe a political migrant stunt orchestrated and carried out by Texas and Florida Governors Desantis and Abbott. A similar stunt was attempted back in 1962 and failed, I make the analogy.

According to official channels and various news reports, supporters of former far-right President Jair Bolsonaro have stormed the capitol, presidential palace, and Supreme court.  

On this episode, I report on the House Speakership debacle, with Kevin McCarthy being confirmed on the 15th ballot.  Not unprecedented, but damaging to a party that is already fractured with a new slim majority in the House.  Yes, this was comedic at times, but also dangerous for democracy and a foresight into what the next two years will look like under a Republican-controlled House. 

On this episode, I'll be reporting on a potential political shakeup with the House speakership.  With Republicans divided and not enough votes, this could delay the start of the new Congress. 

On this episode, I talk about the 2023 congress, Georgia senate race, the expanded Democratic majority, and a potential shake-up in the Senate.  I also speak about democracy and the threat Republicans pose, and how we can counter that.
