S3 Ep. 30 Tyrney Steinoff Small - The Story of "HotShot"
In the early 2000s if you heard "Man I feel like a woman" come on at an NBHA show, or any mega barrel race you knew to run to the fence because you were about to see the legendary HotShot likely take the lead. HotShot - registered as Nate Shilbar - was purchased out of a sale barn and trained by Peyton Raney who had tremendous success on him including winning the 1997 Rookie of the Year title and an NFR qualification. He won with Peyton until 2001 when Janet Stover leased him for the NFR winning a record setting amount to clinch her the World Championship - a record that would still hold today if his placings were tied to current NFR payouts - and then he went on to secure his spot in the history books with the Steinhoff girls. Jockeyed by Tanya, Tyrney, and Taylor Steinhoff for over a decade - HotShot continued to win until his passing in 2011. Tyrney Steinhoff Small took some time to share the legacy of HotShot with us and we know you all will love this one.

Welcome to our second episode on our deep dive into all things ground related. We had a great conversation with the man, the myth, and the legend of ground himself - Randy Spraggins. S3 Ep. 25 Ground 101 with Jake Van
This week, we are starting a deep dive on the most important thing a barrel racer needs to be successful in competition - great ground. In the first of hopefully a trio of episodes with some of the most knowledgeable tractor men in the game we had the opportunity to talk to Jake Van of the Wilderness circuit and Blackhawk Arena of Salina, UT on his thoughts behind what it takes to make an arena the best it can be. Ground is much more complicated than simply running a tractor over a patch of dirt as you will hear in this episode. We hope you share this with all your barrel racing friends - knowledge is key to success with any barrel racing ground!

This year she's kept up her winning ways and kept going through the ups and downs to currently be in the top 15! This Badlands Circuit cowgirl and mom of 4 didn't venture much outside her circuit before her main horse, Apollo, had different ideas. They broke their own arena record again this year at Cheyenne and are coming off a win at Sikeston this last weekend and we can't wait to cheer them on in the last 6 weeks of the season!

Winning Ogden, Nampa and Cheyenne with an arena record setting run, Sue is pushing to pursue another NFR qualification this year. S3 Ep. 20 All About Incentive Programs
Since we started The Money Barrel Podcast, so many of you, the listeners, have asked questions about incentive programs, or asked for an episode about current incentives. Kayla took some time to really look into as many of the incentives as she could and bring you a ton of information. From the Royal Crown, to the Buckles, from the diamond classic, to our very own Colorado Classic, Kayla really digs into so many events. Our goal on this episode is to hopefully give you some insight into which of these incentives best fits you and your program, but it is important that you look into the incentives you are interested in yourself. There is a ton of information out there, and we know that so many of these incentive producers would be glad to help you get a better understanding of their events and how you can get involved, so don't forget to do your homework.

S3 Ep. 19 Brandon Myers
Brandon Myers has a way with horses that very few in our industry do, and his understanding of them and desire to always learn more is something truly unique. When we asked him to be on our podcast he wanted to make one thing absolutely clear - the way he interacts with and views horses comes from a life journey and obstacles rarely talked about on public platforms. Our goal has always been to share the real life stories of those making an impact in our industry and Brandon is no different. In this podcast we talk about addiction and alcoholism in depth, accidents and traumatic brain injuries and learning how he navigated these hardships and obstacles to get onto the path Brandon is on today.
We believe his insight and story is one that is so valuable to share.

S3 Ep. 18 Rainey Skelton
We had the opportunity to catch up with Rainey Skelton this week during a few days break for her during the busy July rodeo season. Currently navigating her way through her WPRA rookie year, Rainey is no stranger to success in the rodeo arena - from growing up on the rodeo road travelling with her parents, to her own accomplishments that include winning $60,000 and her WCRA World Championship title back in 2021. We were able to talk about everything from the highs to the lows, overcoming mental blocks, horse injuries, resetting goals, sponsorships, you name it! We hope you enjoy!

S3 Ep. 17 Brandon Cullins and Emily Efurd
As most of you know, our other side gig is the Colorado Classic Futurity and Maturity that was just held last week. We were able to sit down with Brandon Cullins and Emily Efurd and it was a laid back, fun, honest look into the lives of these two incredible trainers and their program. Brandon has won over a million dollars in his career with countless big time wins and big time horses trained on his resume. Emily was a WPRA Rookie of the Year turned futurity trainer and both of them combined to win over $100,000 between our event and the Ruby Buckle the following week. Emily even won the Ruby Buckle Futurity! This will definitely be an episode we will try to have a follow up for so once you listen, if you have any questions, send them our way!

S3 Ep. 16 Dr. Marvin Beeman
Dr. Marvin Beeman has been a practicing performance equine veterinarian for over 65 years. His knowledge and reputation is unmatched in the industry and this episode is truly special, getting to talk to him about the advances in equine vet medicine over the last 6 decades and some of his favorite moments in his career. We are honored to have had the opportunity to sit down and talk with the legendary vet.

S3 Ep. 15 Dr. Melissa Fenn - E.I.P.H. and Lasix
When we released our Patreon subscriber exclusive episode a few months ago and asked our listeners what veterinary questions they wanted to have answered - there were countless questions about bleeding and Lasix usage. We decided to have an entire podcast focused on that topic alone for all of our listeners and here it is!
Dr. Melissa Fenn is an internal medicine specialist at Littleton Equine Medical Center and we have personally had horses go through her treatment and knew she was the perfect person to discuss this topic with. Around the barn its called bleeding, but Exercise Induced Pulmonary Hemorrhage is a battle most barrel racers deal with and it's a hot topic on the best way to manage, treat and prevent it. We value and appreciate Dr. Fenn's time and sharing her knowledge with us on this episode and hope you learn as much as we did.
As always with these types of episodes, our goal is to share education on the topic but please always refer to your veterinarian for treatment for your horses.

S3 Ep. 14 Dani Buhler
A few months ago Kayla made a Facebook post congratulating our giraffe training, Switzerland native, best friend on her Lone Star Shootout Derby championship - and everyone thought she was joking. We weren't! Our guest this week is Dani Buhler who not only trains giraffes but is also pretty good at training barrel horses with a resume that includes a college national finals qualification, and just last October, a $50,000 payday at the Pink Buckle winning the reserve derby championship title. We think you will see Dani and her great mare "Yeti" in the results a lot, and now you can know more about the hurdles they have overcome to get to where they are today. Thank you for listening!
This episode is brought to you by Spalding Fly Predators.

S3 Ep. 13 Crystal Shumate
Crystal Shumate has created a standout barrel racing breeding program based out of Florida. Her program focuses on mares that she has won on and the 3.5 million dollar sire BHR Frenchies Socks. Crystal has created a world class breeding program that focuses on quality over quantity while also working as a nurse and competing herself. We were thrilled to have the opportunity to talk to Crystal and hear some behind the scene stories from For the Fame Farms and we hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

S3 Ep. 12 Barrel Racing Industry Alliance Part 2
This weeks episode is a follow up to our first episode of the year about the Barrel Racing Industry Alliance, or BRIA. We followed up on your questions from the last episode, discussed what QData and EquiStat can do for all programs, what black type pedigrees are really all about, and the hopes for the future of our industry, with BRIA member representatives Lainie Whitmire and Robin Glenn. We'd love everyone to share this episode with all producers out there - the more the merrier.

S3 Ep. 11 Amber Moore
Amber Moore - also known as Amberleigh Moore in the rodeo world - just came off some big wins in the Northwest Futurity run including champion and reserve champion futurity titles at the Sand Cup. This is a great conversation about her background growing up in the Northwest, the story of her million dollar winning mare CP Dark Moon who qualified 4x to the National Finals Rodeo including a 15th place to Reserve World Champion jump in the standings in 2016 and now what Amber is doing with her next generation of superstars. This is a fun one we know you will enjoy!

S3 Ep. 10 Billy Myers Part 2
Here is the second half of the conversation with Billy Myers that covers the bigger picture of how our industry is evolving, even a little cross over about the team roping industry and how the entire western industry is moving in a great direction - the future is bright!

S3 Ep. 9 Billy Myers Part 1
Breeding Season is in full swing and we thought it was perfect timing to talk about one of the most legendary breeding programs in the western industry. We had the chance to talk to Billy Myers of Myers Performance Horses about basically everything that goes into having a top program. From the history of Frenchmans Guy and Myers Ranch to broodmares and stallion selection, 2 year old sales and the future of the industry. In fact, we talked about so many different things, we decided to break this into two episodes for you! Look for "Part 2" later this week!

S3 Ep. 8 Cally Kindred
Cally Kindred is a Badlands Circuit cowgirl with four generations of family history in ranching and raising high quality performance horses. Her family owns the great TR Dashing Badger - who we all know as Dolly and they now stand her full brother TR Illuminator Cash. Cally is a Badlands circuit qualifier in barrel racing and her experiences in a real world ranching family makes her down to earth and humble about her successes. From competing on the rodeo road to raising horses, from running a business to standing a stud and selling embryos - we covered just about every topic you could hope for!

S3 Ep. 7 Rodeo 101 with Jimmie Tew
We have had many listeners request a Rodeo 101 podcast - so here you go! We had the chance to talk to Jimmie Tew right after her win at Tucson to talk about all things rodeoing.
These are all questions our listeners have asked and we hope you enjoy some real insight to the rodeo road! Jimmie is an NFR qualifier and former Rookie of the Year and Kayla is a Mountain States Circuit Finalist who also won Rookie of the Year for her circuit so you get two different insights to rodeoing - whether you want to go for the NFR or if you just want to make your circuit finals! We hope you enjoy!

S3 Ep. 6 Miles Baker
A few months ago we asked what questions our listeners wanted answered about colt starting and fundamentals and this episode answers all your questions and more! We had the opportunity to talk to Miles Baker, a true horsemen who trains some of the most elite performance horses in the western industry. Miles is known for his ability to put a solid confident foundation on colts that sets them up for success for the rest of their career, taking them from their first day under saddle to the futurity and pro rodeo levels. He has impacted the career of thousands of horses and his experience and knowledge shared in this episode can help any program out there! You may even want to listen to this twice.

S3 Ep. 5 Terri Wood Gates
Terri Wood Gates is a fierce competitor from the Wilderness Circuit and has been winning consistently her whole life. With 27 circuit qualifications under her belt and countless futurity and derby wins, Terri truly knows how to make consistent and confident winners year after year. She has overcome hurdles and time away from the competition arena and we got to talk about it all with her during her downtime at the Royal Crown. We have been looking forward to this episode since the start of our podcasts and glad we finally got it done - we hope you enjoy it as well!

S3 Ep. 4 Paul Humphrey
Paul Humphrey is a well established horseman who has spent his career focusing on the horsemanship side of training barrel horses. He spent nearly a decade barrel racing in Italy and is a 10x European barrel racing champion - and then returned to the US with a goal of sharing his education. Nowadays he puts on close to 30 clinics a year always with the same goal - to help riders focus more on the horsemanship aspect of training and getting their horses truly ready to perform. This was a great conversation and about as in depth in the training side as we have gotten - we hope you enjoy!

S3 Ep. 3 Kelly Allen
Kelly Allen might not be a name everyone knows already, but we fully believe you should. Kelly has trained countless winners and is giving her great horse Cinco her shot at the big time this year and we can't wait to cheer them on! We got the chance to record this podcast in person during the Denver Stock Show and talked about every topic - the highs and lows, the mental game, having a "real" job outside of rodeo, medications, you name it we talked about it. Kelly and Cinco just tied to win Rapid City this past weekend so be on the lookout for this duo to win big over the rest of the winter rodeos - hopefully on their way to their first NFR qualification!

S3 Ep. 2 Carley Cervi
This weeks episode is with our good friend Carley Cervi. Carley came up through the ranks of youth rodeo and is known for being a true horsewoman who can make consistent winners time and time again. Her career kicked off with her favorite grey gelding, Radio and their wins spanned over a decade including two trips to the NFR. Her calm, consistent yet competitive manner has produced winner after winner, starting from the futurity world and helping them graduate to the highest level at the pro rodeos. There is a lot to learn from Carley in this episode and we hope you enjoy it!

S3 Ep. 1 Barrel Racing Industry Alliance (BRIA)
To kick off this year we had a great conversation with Robin Glenn and Lainie Whitmire to discuss the Barrel Racing Industry Alliance. BRIA is an alliance between the top associations in our industry who developed a unified system whose goal is to collect accurate results from events that will become the gold standard for pedigree and performance records. Qualifying races will be graded similar to the racing industry and will help breeders, owners and buyers easily understand the caliber of the horse and its sire and dam. This episode is full of insight on how our industry is continuing to evolve and improve and if you have any questions after you listen - let us know!
