Having a hard time "finding a problem you want to solve?" Consider this alternative.
"Find a problem you want to solve" is good marketing advice, yes, but what if you're a coach who isn't lit up (yet) but a particular problem and instead wants to cast a wider net? Consider the alternative: Create an experience you want to invite people to.

How to describe your coaching to others when you're still in a phase of experimenting, testing, playing, pivoting, and discovery!
Today's episode was inspired by a client of mine who asked, "so how do I tell people what they're going to get when they sign up for my email list?" ----- when she's in a super dynamic and exciting period of testing, discovery, growth, and change!
I took this question - about how to marry creativity/freedom/experimentation/play with the consistency and clear messaging we're craving on the business side - to my colleagues and advisors. What emerged are four insights shared in today's episode.

Redefining "niche" in the land of coaching
The first step when talking about "niche" is to agree on how to define it. In this episode I share a recent evolution in my own thinking about "niche", inspired by a lovely listener email from a few weeks ago. I hope these insights help loosen the niche-chains you may have been feeling bound by.

How willing are you to suck at this whole coaching thing for a bit?
The Coaching Industrial Complex puts so much pressure on new coaches to be GOOD and SUCCESSFUL right away, and subtly (or not so subtly) reinforces the idea that if we're not "succeeding" it must be because there's something wrong with US, not with the industry we're swimming in.
But what if you were willing to let it be messy, imperfect, and to make a lot of mistakes on your way towards figuring out who you are as a coach and what your work is going to look like over the long haul? What if the path towards mastery involves a ton of practice, "failure", and learning along the way?
Are you willing to be a beginner for as long as it takes until you're not? Are you willing to prioritize learning over any particular result, to be bad at something until you're good at it? What would it be like if you stopped punishing yourself for not having it all figured out? All of this, plus what coaching has to do with Poker, in today's episode.

Finding that sweet spot between your gifts and "what good coaches do"
I am so excited to be back and sharing this idea with you today -- if you've at felt a conflict between your natural gifts and what you think "good coaches do" or "good coaching is", this one is for you. What if, in fact, your best coaching emerges out of you celebrating, embracing, and highlighting YOUR greatest gifts, talents, and strengths? Listen on!

Want to reach your ideal clients? Use Coffee Talk instead of Coach Speak.

Coach Penny Gambill joins me today to talk about her work supporting women who are ready to reclaim control over their lingering drinking habits and reach their health goals. A microepisode - Stop Asking Coaches for Feedback
Want to know if your copy is clear? If your program makes sense? Stop asking your fellow coaches and ask your audience instead.
(unless coaches are your audience!)

The Conversation Project --- a total gamechanger.
Unless coaches are your target market, stop asking them what they think of your offfer/website/freebie. Ask the people that you want to help DIRECTLY. A Conversation Project will give you help you do this.
I challenge you to have 30 coaching conversations with 30 different people (within whatever market you might be considering!) to learn more about what they need, want, dream about, what problems they have and how they explain their lives in their own words. Notice what you're inspired by, drawn to, and what you can create with your coaching tools in response to what you learn.
You can say yes, no, or renegotiate.

Sharing a bit of my philosophy and approach to Discovery Calls through 5 "tips". This is by no means a rulebook or set of steps for everyone to follow - take what feels right, leave on the table what you know isn't meant for you.
1. Explore Fit
2. Be of service
3. Let them talk.
4. Assess alignment.
5. Leave details until the end.
Bonus #6. Test the Yes.
