Let's talk about triggers
We’re following up our last episode on trauma responses with all things trigger: trigger warnings, being triggered or unsafe versus discomfort and activation. We also dig into the ways in which terms are being mis (and over) used and leave you with some concrete things to get curious about in your own exploration of these topics. The big question we leave you to consider is: am I really triggered/unsafe or am I just trying to avoid discomfort?

Let's talk about trauma responses
Unpopular opinion - that TikTok you saw that made you believe your (insert behaviour here) is a trauma response might be doing you more harm than good.
Join us in this conversation where we share our controversial opinion on why the popular tendency to label a wide range of human behaviours or qualities as trauma responses can be highly problematic. We dig into things from all angles, exploring why our opinion itself might be biased. We’d love to hear from you: let us know if you agree, disagree, or have a completely different take all together!

Let's talk about the hiatus
Probably our most vulnerable episode so far!!
Well, we’re back and we’re here to share vulnerably about where we’ve been and why we had to take an unplanned hiatus from the podcast. It wasn’t an easy decision to make, but we think it’s important to share our humanness and practice what we preach in terms of boundaries, self-care and honouring our capacity. We’re all set to finish up season 2 and can’t wait to share the rest of the episodes with you!

Let's talk about allyship
This might be our favourite episode so far!
A conversation about allyship was what drew us to each other as friends in grad school; now we are so excited to share our conversation about it with all of you. We unpack what it really means to practice allyship, what allyship is not, and how we embody this work as individuals and professionals. We can’t wait to hear what you think!

Let's talk about "putting yourself first"
We came across a post by @itskemimarie around the idea of “putting yourself first” and the importance of considering the nuances in this statement. It really spoke to us, so we decided to sit down and have a conversation about it! In this episode we explore what this idea means to us, when it’s not always possible to do so and the different layers that go along with considering our needs while honouring the needs of our lives and relationships at the same time.
*We are still getting used to the technology around podcasting and acknowledge that Ravin’s mic was a little bit louder than anticipated in this episode…oops!

Let's talk about privilege
In this episode we start to unpack a big and important topic - our thoughts on privilege. What is it? Why is it an important concept to understand?
We reflect on our own experiences of privilege, and marginalization, while weaving in a discussion on the role that pop culture representation plays in both upholding systemic privilege and the power it has to dismantle it.

We are two BIPOC therapists who are passionate about social justice & mental health; this podcast is a space where we invite you into our conversations.
In episode 5, we dip our toes into the massive topic of anti-oppression.
We discuss what anti-oppression means to us, in our lives and in our practices. This conversation brings to light the work that we are both continuing to do as individuals to recognize and unlearn our own biases as well as the larger systemic influences at play in the world and in the field of therapy.

Let's talk about therapist neutrality
We are two BIPOC therapists who are passionate about social justice & mental health; this podcast is a space where we invite you into our conversations.
In our next episode, we unpack our thoughts on therapist neutrality - the idea that therapists are “blank slates.”
We discuss the humanness of therapists and the myth that we leave our personal beliefs outside of the therapy space. We also dig into why this stance is important to us as clinicians and people, but may not be what every client is looking for.
The conversation unfolds to include your right to construct your therapeutic space in a way that works for you, and meet your needs, highlighting the importance of finding a therapist that’s right for YOU.
If you’ve been thinking about going to therapy, or had an experience where therapy didn’t work for you, you might find this conversation useful!
