3.31 My Child Has Dyslexia, Now What? with Lisa Parnello
In this episode, I'm happy to share a conversation with Lisa Parnello.
Lisa is a dyslexia expert with over 15 years of experience including public schools, and private schools, with a primary focus on students with learning differences such as dyslexia, and dysgraphia. She started her career teaching general education students and discovered her heart was set on helping the children who struggled the most.
She earned her M.Ed. in special education and has since dedicated her life to helping the most struggling learners. She is a certified Wilson Dyslexia Therapist and a Wilson Credentialed Trainer. Lisa served as the Lower School Director of Sand Hill School at CHC in Palo Alto before expanding Parnello Education Services.
She trains and guides teachers as they develop into successful special education instructors including mentoring teachers and instructional coaching. Tune in to this episode for the next steps parents can take after getting a dyslexia diagnosis for their child, an explanation of what a dyslexia therapist does, and book recommendations for parents and kids.

As a certified Orton Gillingham educator, she seeks to provide resources that assist teachers, families, and children with all aspects of structured literacy and dyslexia.
In this episode, Emily chats with me about the basics of dyslexia. 3.7 Things to Consider When Looking for a Tutor with Josh Mann
In this episode, I'm joined by Josh Mann. Josh is very passionate about helping students succeed. He has a B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College in writing and also studied at The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, and Oxford University. He has extensive experience tutoring and teaching at many private schools and homeschooling organizations in the Los Angeles area.
He has taught literature, creative writing, life skills, drama, film, and Shakespeare classes to students of all ages. He currently teaches creative writing and essay writing classes. He also specializes in helping students who have learning disabilities and behavior challenges, such as Dyslexia, Autism, ADD, and Asperger's syndrome.
Josh incorporates life coaching skills into his process of working with students, in order to assist with organization, scheduling, executive functioning, time management, social skill improvement, and motivation.

This is why she created Literary Adventures for Kids, a full language arts curriculum for preschool to high school that inspires kids to read through rabbit trails and a little bit of magic dust.
Dachelle uses her experience as an educator in the traditional system to create courses that encourage critical thinking and are catalysts for big conversations.
She is also the owner of Hide the Chocolate, a blog about her adventures in homeschooling and parenting, using a relaxed Charlotte Mason philosophy. You can often find her reading a good book (or even sometimes just an okay book) and enjoying a jar of Nutella.

I'm so excited for you to meet Dr. Terica Butler. She is a former teacher and believes literacy is a tool to build student identity and ignite in them curiosity about themselves and the world around them.
She spent most of her career supporting literacy initiatives in large urban school districts before creating her business, Apex Education Consulting Solutions, LLC, in 2018. She started her company to meet the professional learning needs of teachers and leaders. Then she decided to add a student solution service during the pandemic. And here we are two years later, she has refined the model into virtual literacy learning pods for grades 3-5.
In addition, Dr. Terica likes to spend time outside in the garden, listening to music and spending quality time with her loved ones.
