#122 - Modeling Health for Your Child: A Journey Through Nutrition with Dr. Sheila Carroll
Welcome to an enlightening episode of our podcast, where we embark on a transformative journey through the realm of health and nutrition. Join us as we sit down with Dr. Sheila Carroll, a distinguished expert in the field, to explore the art of modeling better health practices and the profound impact it can have on your children's lives.
About Dr. Sheila Carroll (In her words)
In 20 years of clinical medicine, I took care of a lot of very sick children. But to an even greater extent, I saw kids with lifestyle-induced problems. Poor sleep, unhealthy diet, sedentary lifestyle, unhealthy weight, and frequently a lot of depression and anxiety were keeping these kids from living in their best health. A child cannot be expected to change their lifestyle habits by themselves. Children need their parent's and caregiver's help. And parents need help figuring out first, exactly what to do and then, how to actually do it. This is what I help parents do. I help parents know exactly what to do to improve their child's health and I teach them the tools and skills they need to fully support their child and themselves along their journeys to better health. As a Pediatrician and Obesity medicine physician as well as a Certified Life and Weight Coach, I help children by empowering their parents to be the parents they truly want to be.

Kim shares her deeply personal story of coping with the unimaginable - the passing of her beloved daughter. Join us for a heart-wrenching yet inspiring conversation about the power of faith, love, and resilience in the face of life's greatest challenges.
About Kim Peacock (In her words)
When tragedy struck our family right after Christmas in 1998, it was a loss so deep I believed I would not survive. We witnessed the accident that took our daughter Nicole's earthly life. That event rocked the very foundation of my beliefs and my world. I had to find a way to grieve and still live life fully. After struggling in grief -feeling isolated and hopeless - I found hope and healing. I came to realize that grief and joy can co-exist. I became determined to find purpose in my pain and help others who were struggling with the deep sorrow of losing a loved one. My book "Victorious Heart: Finding Hope and Healing after a Devastating Loss" provides useful advice, guidance, and support for those in the midst of grieving.

#120 - Family as a Business Model, with Aaron Shelley
Welcome to a thought-provoking exploration of a unique and increasingly relevant concept: "Family as a Business Model.” In this podcast, we will dive deep into the innovative idea of running your family as a business. Join us on this intriguing journey as we challenge conventional family dynamics and discover the potential of running your family like a well-oiled business.
About Aaron Shelley (in his words)
It always seemed like my friends and I were primed for success. I grew up in a suburban neighborhood and there were about ten boys around that became my friends. We went to the same church. We went to the same schools. We were all in the same scout troop. We played sports in the street almost every day. We regularly played video games and board games together. Our families all had about the same amount of money. We all had two parents in the home. We were all living the American middle-class lifestyle. After high school, we all went our separate ways, and that is when things started to go off the rails. Two years after high school, the parents of my best friend John got divorced. I had spent hours playing at their home, jumping on their trampoline, watching TV, and now with three kids still at home, they divorced. A few years later, another friend’s parents got divorced. I had played board games at their house almost every week growing up. So much for happily ever after.

#112 - Success Starts at Home: Insights from EksAyn Anderson
In this captivating episode, we dive deep into the profound wisdom of EksAyn Anderson, who shares his illuminating perspective on the notion that success begins at home. Join us on a journey that explores the foundational role that our homes play in shaping our personal and professional triumphs.
EksAyn's Biography
EksAyn is an author, sales and negotiation expert, and speaker. EksAyn has been seen on Forbes.com, Speaker Magazine, TV, and various business blogs and podcasts. His books, The Key to the Gate: Principles and Techniques to Get Past Gatekeepers to the Decision Maker, and What I Want My Children to Know Before I Die have sold internationally. EksAyn has extensive selling experience, including selling to governments, associations, and other businesses. His educational background in psychology and life experiences have taught him not only how to connect, communicate, and sell but also how to teach you and your team to increase your sales, negotiate with the best, and create loyal long-term clients. As just one example of his success, after only about 3 ½ years with an 11-year-old organization that at one time had hundreds of salespeople, EksAyn closed 3 of the top 6 largest transactions that the organization had ever had in it's history, including the all-time record for the largest sale, which was over SIX TIMES larger than the next biggest sale the company had EVER had. Much more importantly than what he has done in business: EksAyn is somewhat good at playing hide and seek, jumping on a trampoline with his children, and setting up a tent trailer when taking his family on road trips. He also enjoys hiking mountains, camping and reading. Business isn't as important as our friends, our families, our children and those we love. Luckily, the principles that govern influencing others in business can also be used in our relationships. The same principles that govern negotiating and closing a big business deal can also be used to influence a friend who is questioning their life and can save a rocky marriage. EksAyn loves teaching the principles that can empower in both business and at home. The principles are the same.

#111 - Amy Tanzillo: Empowering New Moms: From Overwhelmed to Breastfeeding Confidence
Motherhood is a remarkable journey, woven with threads of joy, challenges, and transformation. In this enlightening episode, we step into the world of new moms, guided by Amy Tanzillo, an expert who has witnessed their incredible transformations. Join us as we explore the transformative journey of these mothers – from the depths of feeling overwhelmed to the heights of embracing confident breastfeeding.
About Amy (in her words)
When I was in your shoes, I didn't do anything to prepare myself for breastfeeding. I may have taken an overview at the hospital, but I had no idea what it was like to breastfeed my baby.
It didn't even cross my mind that breastfeeding could be really hard, or painful or the 50 other reasons my clients reach out to me.
It was when I was expecting my third, I decided to become an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). To say knowledge is power is the understatement of the century. What I learned in the countless courses and 500 clinical hours at Sibley Memorial Hospital, completely changed how I navigated breastfeeding.
I'll admit I feel a little robbed that I didn't know as much breastfeeding my firstborn and daughter. For the sake of sanity, I believe that timing is everything and it all worked out.
With that being said, if I can help expectant and new moms feel as confident and empowered about breastfeeding as I did with my third, then it's worth making supporting you my life's work!
So, I get it. I don't only get it but I'm here to be your designated support person along the way. I help navigate breastfeeding issues before they become problems with personalized support and a customized plan.

#110 - Emotional Regulation: Unlocking Peace and Prosperity with Laura Reardon
In the bustling current of our lives, emotions often surge like waves, sometimes threatening to capsize our sense of peace and well-being. Join us in this enlightening episode as we explore the profound impact of emotional regulation – a skill that holds the key to unlocking a world of peace. From improving relationships to enhancing work performance and nurturing better overall health, we'll delve into how mastering emotional regulation can reshape our lives. It starts with the ABCs!
About Laura (in her words)
I am inspired by the idea of creating more peace and prosperity in our world. When I was a student at Northeastern University majoring in psychology, I learned that emotional regulation is the key to peace and prosperity because the ability to remain calm, connected, and focused on conflict resolution improves your relationships, your performance at work, and even leads to better overall health. Initially I brought my enthusiasm for teaching emotional regulation skills to my role as a human resources manager, and then when I became a parent, I became passionate about teaching them to my children. But my role as a parent was more triggering than my role as a human resources manager so managing my own emotions and behavior became more challenging. Also, I came to understand that the traditional parenting tools we’re taught to use such as consequences, rewards, and ignoring unwanted behaviors put short-term control ahead of long-term learning. And so, I began to educate myself about more effective ways to build my own emotional regulation and support the development of emotional regulation in my children. I earned a certification as a Child Behavior Specialist and I completed Parent Coach training, Emotion Coach training, and Anxiety Coach training in addition to my degree in psychology from Northeastern University. And working for twenty years as a home daycare owner and nanny… I’ve learned a thing or two along the way. Now I share what I know now and wish I knew then because I continue to feel inspired by the idea of teaching emotional regulation skills to create more peace and prosperity in our world. My specialty includes working with parents of children from birth through the teenage years, because it’s never too early or too late to support the development of emotional regulation. Emotional regulation can be more challenging for children with a diagnosis of ADHD or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), with sensory sensitivities, or who are deeply feeling kids.

About Dr. Gwenyth Jackaway
"For three decades, Dr. Gwenyth Jackaway served as a member of the Fordham University faculty. As a media historian, her research and teaching has focused on the impact of new communication technologies on society, debates about freedom of expression in American history, and the role of the media in shaping our understanding of the world. Dr. Jackaway’s approach to these themes is highly interdisciplinary, drawing from her training in both the humanities and the social sciences.
Gwenyth Jackaway, PhD.
As the Associate Chair of the Department of Communication and Media Studies, Dr. Jackaway spearheaded a complete transformation of the undergraduate program. This was a 5-year project, resulting in the creation of 4 new bachelor’s degrees now offered by Fordham.
In preparation for the curriculum redesign, Dr. Jackaway led her colleagues in conducting a study comparing over 100 communication and media degree programs at universities around the country. Remarkably, the study revealed that fewer than 25% of these programs include a ‘media ethics’ requirement for their students. To fill this clear gap, Fordham's new program, “Media With a Mission,” was designed with an emphasis on ethics and social responsibility.
Gwenyth Jackaway is the author of Media at War: Radio’s Challenge to the Newspapers, 1924-1939. She has been practicing meditation for over 25 years, and is a Certified Mindfulness Meditation Instructor. About Laura (in her words)
My name is Laura Hernandez. My husband, Tony, and I are raising our ten amazing children in the Dallas area. In the past four and a half years we have added six new children to our family... three biologically and three through adoption.
Going from four to ten kids was hard work. And, on top of having a large family, we are also not your "typical" family. We have three kiddos in public school, we are homeschooling five kids, and - with three kiddos having special needs - we have over 20 appointments weekly.
I read many books on homeschooling schedules, large family logistics, and family dynamics; but I found over and over again that nothing that was already out there was fully relevant to our family!
I had to figure out what worked for US and I had to do it myself. Books didn't have the perfect answers. How could we manage all of our logistics and have-tos and make time to intentionally instill the ideals that our family values? It took me years to develop systems and life hacks to keep our family running and organized. But after creating systems that helped our family run smoothly, it reduced my daily workload and my house became a place of peace... yes, even with 10 kids!
Out of these years of hard work, Mama Systems was born. I want to save other Mamas the pains I went through to figure it out on my own. I want to bring more peace to their homes by coaching them through ideas, schedules, incentives, chores, and delegating.

About Dr. Nghi Dang (in his words)
I was born in Vietnam but grew up in Southern California. Our family moved to the States when I was 7 years old. As an immigrant, I shared the same struggles as many other immigrants with adjusting to a new norm and dealing with bullying, discrimination, and constantly having to self-validate while fighting off depression. Having been in practice for over 10 years as a Family Physician, I have realized that my struggles are shared by many of my patients. As the pandemic progressed, I have seen more and more visits related to mental health in the clinic for both adults and children. I was motivated to do something to help educate children and help start a dialogue between parents and children about mental health. I figured the best way to help educate is through storytelling. I have written a series of short stories that will help highlight mental health issues.
