On Integration: Through a Neufeld, Polyvagal, and Undisturbed Birthing Lens
In this first episode of The Third Door, Jennifer and Eugena dive deep into the concept of psychedelic integration and integration as a concept in general.
Together, they weave their theoretical paradigms into a tapestry of investigation, layering each lens overtop of one another. Eventually, they come to make sense of integration through Gordon Neufeld's concept of integrative functioning, Stephen Porges's Polyvagal Theory, Deb Dana's concept of 'anchoring' and Dan Siegel's model of the window of tolerance.
Eugena includes examples from her training in shamanic healing and Jennifer can't help but speak about the undisturbed birthing paradigm and how the postpartum is the domain of integration. Each articulate and unravel the notions of tension, resistance, and protective parts and unpack the difference between tension and resistance.
This episode is a beautiful example of how a Third Door is created and opened through dynamic living conversations.

The Third Door Podcast: A Portal for Beautiful Conversations
An Introduction
We are inviting you, the listener, to walk through the third door with us and exit the dominant noise, so we can collectively sift through the information mind-field, and follow what our hearts know to be true.
The third door is a portal of beauty that opens the heart and brings us home to the depths of our knowing and belonging. Our intent is that this podcast will serve as the bread that offers comfort and nourishment to all the inner parts that have been hungry and seeking to be fed. Journey with us as we explore the edges of healing, NOSC, ancient and modern therapies, psychedelics, mental and emotional health, and heart-based relational living, all with a splash of humour as we dive into life’s deepest waters.
Purpose + Intention
To engage in heart-centered, inspiring, deep, and edgy conversations with guests and each other about navigating these challenging and polarizing times. To collectively map out a terrain that opens a ‘third door’ as a portal for beauty, healing, connection, and restoration.
Holding the questions:
- What if we lived life as a ceremony?
- What if we lived life from the heart?
- What if we could hold mixed feelings without othering?

Meet The Hosts...
Jennifer Summerfeldt is a mother, therapist, author and space holder who is passionate about profundity and beauty as a portal to touching the sacred.
She has a gift in presence that naturally invites others to deep dive into the internal landscape and transpersonal realms where healing and birthing can be tapped into as transformational experiences. An avid learner, Jennifer has studied trauma and attachment research, polyvagal theory, neurobiology, altered states of consciousness, somatic theories, deep inquiry and mindfulness, all of which inform her work as a therapist, writer and human on a quest to uncover the nature of reality.
She is the author of the books Healing After Birth and Midwifery for the Soul as well as countless other publications and is the CEO of ASK Therapy For Moms, a virtual counselling clinic specializing in perinatal mental health support. She developed the Flowing Fears Process, an embodied therapeutic modality which combines multiple theories into one fluid system that takes the client down and under, and up and out.
In her spare time, Jennifer enjoys spending time with her adult children, step-children and husband in the beautiful Okanagan valley region of British Columbia, Canada. She loves writing, preparing food, designing jewelry, communing with nature, dancing kizomba and having deep and beautiful conversations.
Eugena Maguire is a therapist, social worker and self-proclaimed deep end swimmer.
Limping into adulthood and trying to make sense of her own childhood, Eugena fatefully stumbled upon the work of Dr. Gordon Neufeld and others, ultimately bringing her into her current role as a helper, spiritual tour guide, space holder, facilitator and curious companion to others on their journeys of transformation. Through years of deep inner work and play, hitting the books, and healing, Eugena has discovered what drives us as human beings: our need for connection.
Eugena lives on a farm with her wife and in her spare time enjoys writing poetry, traveling, event organizing and connecting to nature. Eugena is passionate about making sense of human beings and the universe through a spiritual and an attachment based and developmental lens and has a vested interest in emotional health and well-being for all.
