Demystifying Production Insurance (with Owner of Alan Schlaifer Insurance)
What is Production Insurance exactly? How do you get it affordably for smaller projects? What exactly do all those terms on that certificate of insurance even mean?!?!?
Production Insurance is a non-negotiable when it comes to filmmaking. You need it to rent gear. You need it to book locations. You need it to keep your crew covered. Filming without it is a risky business. We'll be joined by Alan Schlaifer who has been helping indie filmmakers get insured for over two decades. We plan to demystify production insurance and help make it more attainable for filmmakers at all levels.

More on Alan:
You can reach Alan to ask questions or get a quote for production insurance at alan@asisfinancial.com.
Prior to starting his agency Alan Schlaifer began his career working in post-production. He moved up the ladder from the role of assistant video editor to sound designer and music editor. Recognizing that there were a number of opportunities for calamity in the production process, he transitioned into the field of production insurance. He spent a few years with the John Hart Agency to learn the ropes of handling production insurance needs. Eventually, he started ASIS Entertainment Insurance. It is interesting to note that Alan’s mother was a studio teacher who brought him to the set with her, so he has been around the industry for his entire life. From that beginning, an entry into the industry wasn’t an unexpected leap. In his early years, Alan worked as an extra, body double, hand model, on-set P.A., and assistant to a director where he experienced the production process from script to screen. Alan believes that – for better or for worse – every frame of film offers a learning opportunity. If the worst happens, you want the comfort of knowing that your insurance policy covers the solution.

More on Lauren:
Lauren has led actors to bookings in national commercials, as well as series regular and contract roles, lead and supporting roles, and recurring and guest star roles, both in television and film.
From NYC, Lauren planted roots in LA to further share her years of experience in front of and behind the camera. She started out as an actor and comes from an elite lineage of teachers. Having studied acting extensively with Karen Ludwig, she eventually became her leading student. Karen was the key to Uta Hagen.
Lauren possesses a strong insight into the casting process. She has done a good deal of casting, including casting Oscar winner Adrien Brody (The Pianist) in one of his first lead roles in Ten Benny. She has also been involved in the casting of several movies with the talents of Simon Baker (The Mentalist), Lauryn Hill (singer), Jesse Martin (Law and Order), Frank Vincent (Sopranos) and more.
These experiences working with seasoned and (at the time) undiscovered Oscar winners, taught her so much about the commitment it takes to get noticed in this competitive field. She applied this knowledge when taking on her own projects. In addition to directing many theater productions and independent films, she also has a feature film, several award-winning short films and an entire eleven-episode webseries under her belt. In her projects, she was able to present close to a hundred of her students in front of and behind the camera. Lauren once had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Danny Nucci (Titanic) in Italian American Reconciliation.

More on Betty:
Betty Thomas (born Betty Lucille Nienhauser, July 27, 1948) is an American actress, director, and producer of television and motion pictures. She is known for her Emmy Award-winning role as Sergeant Lucy Bates on the television series Hill Street Blues. As of March 2018, Thomas is one of just two directors (and the only solo director) to have multiple films on the list of seventeen highest-US-grossing female-directed films. Additionally, all of her films are in the top twenty-five highest-US-grossing female-directed films.
After having lied to a Variety reporter about planning on directing a Hooperman episode, she was given a real opportunity by the show's executive producer, and from there her directing career began.[13] After making several other acting appearances, Thomas began directing episodes of Hooperman in addition to the premiere episodes of Doogie Howser, M.D. in 1989. She went on to direct episodes of Arresting Behavior and several episodes of the HBO series Dream On, the latter of which earned her an Emmy for best director. Thomas is nicknamed "The Midnight Queen" because of her preference for nighttime shoots.
In 1992 Thomas took the next step in her directing career with her feature debut Only You. A slight, playful romantic comedy; Only You was a departure from Thomas's experience on Hill Street Blues or her subsequent television directing. Wayne Rice, the film's producer and screenwriter, said that Thomas was chosen to direct due in part to the film's plot in which a man is on a hapless quest to find the perfect woman would be considered inherently sexist without a female director.
Three years following the release of Only You Thomas directed The Brady Bunch Movie (1995), a satirical vision of the 1970s television series The Brady Bunch. The Brady Bunch Movie was a box office hit with domestic ticket sales of $46,576,136, nearly quadrupling its $12 million budget and making it at the time one of the highest-grossing films directed by a woman.
She followed The Brady Bunch Movie with other successes, including Private Parts (1997), Dr. Dolittle (1998), 28 Days (2000), and John Tucker Must Die (2006). 2009's Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel became the first female-directed picture to gross more than $200 million and made her the most successful woman director to that time at the box office. In 2012, Thomas directed a low-budget online series called Audrey for the WIGS YouTube channel.
In 2001, Thomas won the Dorothy Arzner Directors Award of the Women in Film Crystal + Lucy Awards, presented by the Los Angeles chapter of the Women in Film Organization

Intuitive Conversation: Staying healthy mentally and physically
Notable Quote: "If you have such a narrow focus on something it may not be what the universe is telling you to do. If you just go “Oh, there’s an open door right there I’m going to just step through that” it becomes the easier path [and you’ll probably be happier and enjoy it more]."

More on Jenna:
Jenna Edwards is an Actor (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Malcolm in the Middle), an Award-Winning Film Producer (iTunes, Netflix, Hulu) and a #1 Best- Selling Author who is passionate about spreading the idea of Aggressive Optimism as far and wide as she is able to.
Growing up in a small town in Minnesota, Jenna was (what she calls) a “walking statistic." According to the experts, she should have been pregnant at 16, living in poverty with an abusive husband, addicted to some form of drug.
Instead, she made the choice to break the cycle and since then she has traveled the world (beginning as an exchange student in Thailand her senior year of high school), been on TV, and in movies, co- authored a #1 best-selling book and currently lives (not in poverty) in Los Angeles with her loving and supportive husband and she has just recently traveled the country for a year.
She attributes her incredible life to being aware that she has a choice, that our circumstances do not have to define us and that if we practice aggressive optimism when the going gets tough, we truly can create the life we dream of living. JennaEdwards.Life
