Colossians 4:7-18   "Tychicus will tell you all the news about me. He is a dear brother, a faithful minister and fellow servant in the Lord. I am sending him to you for the express purpose that you may know about our circumstances and that he may encourage your hearts. He is coming with Onesimus, our faithful and dear brother, who is one of you. They will tell you everything that is happening here. My fellow prisoner Aristarchus sends you his greetings, as does Mark, the cousin of Barnabas.(You have received instructions about him; if he comes to you, welcome him.) Jesus, who is called Justus, also sends greetings. These are the only Jewsamong my co-workers for the kingdom of God, and they have proved a comfort to me. Epaphras, who is one of you and a servant of Christ Jesus, sends greetings. He is always wrestling in prayer for you, that you may stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured. I vouch for him that he is working hard for you and for those at Laodicea and Hierapolis. Our dear friend Luke, the doctor, and Demas send greetings. Give my greetings to the brothers and sisters at Laodicea, and to Nympha and the church in her house. After this letter has been read to you, see that it is also read in the church of the Laodiceans and that you in turn read the letter from Laodicea. Tell Archippus: “See to it that you complete the ministry you have received in the Lord.” I, Paul, write this greeting in my own hand. Remember my chains. Grace be with you."

Deuteronomy 1:26-28

But you were unwilling to go up; you rebelled against the command of the Lord your God. You grumbled in your tents and said, “The Lord hates us; so he brought us out of Egypt to deliver us into the hands of the Amorites to destroy us. Where can we go? Our brothers have made our hearts melt in fear. They say, ‘The people are stronger and taller than we are; the cities are large, with walls up to the sky. We even saw the Anakites there.’”


1. Missed opportunities

Galatians 6:10 "So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith."

Colossians 4:5 "Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time"


2. You get comfortable with the stagnation

2 Timothy 1:7 "For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control."


3. You can wander around and never realize the full potential GOD had for you.

Ephesians 2:10 "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them."

1 Peter 2:9-10 "But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy."

We Are Redeemed

Colossians 1:13-14 "For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins."


1.  Jesus rescued us from the dominion of darkness

Colossians 1:13  "For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves,"

John 6:44  "No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day."

Luke 19:10  “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost."


2.  God brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves.

Colossians 1:13  "For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves,"

1 John 1:7  "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin."


3.  In Jesus, we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Colossians 1:14  "in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins."

Romans 3:25  "God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished--"

I Corinthians 15:10  "But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them--yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me."

2 Corinthians 8:9  "For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich."

Mark 7:31-37  "Then he returned from the region of Tyre, and went by way of Sidon towards the Sea of Galilee, in the region of the Decapolis. They brought to him a deaf man who had an impediment in his speech; and they begged him to lay his hand on him. He took him aside in private, away from the crowd, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spat and touched his tongue. Then looking up to heaven, he sighed and said to him, “Ephphatha,” that is, “Be opened.” And immediately his ears were opened, his tongue was released, and he spoke plainly. Then Jesus ordered them to tell no one; but the more he ordered them, the more zealously they proclaimed it. They were astounded beyond measure, saying, “He has done everything well; he even makes the deaf to hear and the mute to speak.”"


1. Value of communication

Proverbs 15:2  "The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouths of fools pour out folly."

Proverbs 18:2  "A Fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his own opinion."


2. God/Jesus communicates with us personally & specifically

Mark 7:32-34  "They brought to him a deaf man who had an impediment in his speech; and they begged him to lay his hand on him. He took him aside in private, away from the crowd, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spat and touched his tongue. Then looking up to heaven, he sighed and said to him, “Ephphatha,” that is, “Be opened.””


3. God loves that we communicate with each other and to Him/Her

“Luther is right when he claims that to be created in God’s image has to do with relationship and communication …That means I am created for dialogue: God’s communication with me takes the form of a conversation. This is the basic theme in all of Scripture: God is continually seeking man out to talk with him, from the story of Eden until the proclamation of the new heavens and the new earth. In the same way the concept of covenant is based on two-way communication.”

Are You Full Of Jesus?

Colossians 1:1-8 "Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, To God’s holy people in Colossae, the faithful brothers and sisters in Christ: Grace and peace to you from God our Father. We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all God’s people— the faith and love that spring from the hope stored up for you in heaven and about which you have already heard in the true message of the gospel that has come to you. In the same way, the gospel is bearing fruit and growing throughout the whole world—just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and truly understood God’s grace. You learned it from Epaphras, our dear fellow servant, who is a faithful minister of Christ on our behalf, and who also told us of your love in the Spirit.

Colossians 2:9-10 “For in Christ all the FULLNESS of the Deity lives in bodily form, and you have been given FULLNESS in Christ.”


1. Faith

Colossians 1:4 "because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all the saints--"

Colossians 1:19-20, “For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things...by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.”


2.  Love

Colossians 1:4 "because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all the saints--"

Colossians 1:8  "and who also told us of your love in the Spirit."

I Corinthians 13: 4-8  "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.  Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away."


3. Hope

Colossians 1:5 "the faith and love that spring from the hope that is stored up for you in heaven and that you have already heard about in the word of truth, the gospel"

Colossians 1:27 “God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is CHRIST IN YOU, the HOPE of glory.”

Ephesians 1:18-19  "I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength,"


1.  Weakness

2 Corinthians 12:9-10 But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.


2. People

Ephesians 4:2  Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.

Romans 12:18   If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.


3. Problems

Luke 1:37  " For nothing is impossible with God."

Luke 18:27  Jesus replied, "What is impossible with men is possible with God."

John 15:5 "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

Jeremiah 32:17  "Ah, Sovereign LORD, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.

Be Free From Fearing People

Proverb 29:25  Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD is kept safe.

Mathews 5: 38-44. “You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.' But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well.  If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you. "You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,


1.  DO NOT FEAR  PEOPLE, BUT FEAR THE LORD!

Matthew 10:28   Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

Galatians 1:10 Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ.

Psalm 146:3-5  Do not put your trust in princes, in mortal men, who cannot save. When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing. Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God,


2.  ALWAYS BE AWARE OF HOW GOD SEES YOU!

I Samuel 16:6-7  When they arrived, Samuel saw Eliab and thought, "Surely the LORD's anointed stands here before the LORD." But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart."

Hebrews 4:13  Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.


3.  KEEP FALLING IN GOD'S UNCONDITIONAL LOVE!

1 John 4:10  This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

Luke  22:60-62  Peter replied, "Man, I don't know what you're talking about!" Just as he was speaking, the rooster crowed. The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: "Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times." And he went outside and wept bitterly.

II Corinthians 5:14-15 For Christ's love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.

Proverb 25:28  “A man without self-control is as defenseless as a city with broken-down walls." 


James  3:5-6  “Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts.  Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.  The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body.  It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.”

Proverb 13:3 “He who guards his lips guards his life, but he who speaks rashly will come to ruin.”


1.  THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK.

Proverb 16:23  “A wise man’s heart guides his mouth, and his lips promote instruction.”

Proverb 18:20  “From the fruit of his mouth a man’s stomach is filled; with the harvest from his lips he is satisfied.”


2.  SPEAK THE TRUTH IN LOVE.

Ephesians 4:15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ.

I Corinthians 13:1. If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.

Proverb 15:4  “The tongue that brings healing is a tree of life, but a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.”

Proverb 12:25  “An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up.”


3.  Ask Jesus for help to renew your heart everyday.

Psalm 141:3 "Set a guard over my mouth, O Lord, keep watch over the door of my lips."

Luke 6:45. ...for the mouth speaks what heart is full of

Matthew 15:18 “But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man ‘unclean’"

Ezekiel 18:31 "Rid yourself of all the offenses you've committed, and get a new heart and a new spirit.  Why will you die, O house of Israel"

Psalm 145:13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations. The LORD is faithful to all his promises and loving toward all he has made.

1. Ask God for help!

Philippians 4:10:  I rejoice greatly in the Lord that at last you have renewed your concern for me. Indeed, you have been concerned, but you had no opportunity to show it.

James 4:2 You do not have, because yo do not ask God.

Matthew 7:7  Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.


2.  Learn to be content!

Philippians 4:11-12  I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.

Philippians 4:13  I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

I Timothy 6:6-7  But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it.


3.  Live the life of giving!

Philippians 4:15-16  Moreover, as you Philippians know, in the early days of your acquaintance with the gospel, when I set out from Macedonia, not one church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving, except you only; for even when I was in Thessalonica, you sent me aid again and again when I was in need.

Luke 6:38  Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."


4.  Trust God!

Verse 19:  And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.

I Timothy 6:17  Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.

Psalm 111:5  He provides food for those who fear him; he remembers his covenant forever.

1.  JESUS IS THE IMAGE OF GOD.

Verse 15:  He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.

John 14:9  Jesus answered: "Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'?


2.  JESUS IS THE FIRSTBORN OVER ALL CREATION.

Verse 15: He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.

1. Jesus wept because of rootless belief.

Verse 38: "Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!" "Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!"

Psalm 80: 9   You cleared the ground for it, and it took root and filled the land.


2. Jesus wept because they couldn’t see what they suppose to see.

John 11:33  When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled.

Verse 42: and said, "If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace--but now it is hidden from your eyes.

John 1:11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.


3. Jesus wept because of judgment they will face soon.

Verse 43: The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side.

John 5: 24  "I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.

Verse 42:  and said, "If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace--but now it is hidden from your eyes.

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

Verse 44: "They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God's coming to you."

Because God is with us.....


1.  He gives us comfort

John 14: 16  And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you ad be with you forever.

Psalm 4:8 I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.

Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.


2. He cheers for us

Psalm 16:8-10  I have set the LORD always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure, because you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see decay.


3.  He makes us go through

Isaiah 43:2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.

Philippians 1:6  being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

Acts 14: 1-7 "At Iconium Paul and Barnabas went as usual into the Jewish synagogue. There they spoke so effectively that a great number of Jews and Greeks believed. But the Jews who refused to believe stirred up the other Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brothers. So Paul and Barnabas spent considerable time there, speaking boldly for the Lord, who confirmed the message of his grace by enabling them to perform signs and wonders. The people of the city were divided; some sided with the Jews, others with the apostles. There was a plot afoot among both Gentiles and Jews, together with their leaders, to mistreat them and stone them. But they found out about it and fled to the Lycaonian cities of Lystra and Derbe and to the surrounding country, where they continued to preach the gospel."


1. A person who has Spirituality of Stability.

I Corinthians 2:2 For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.

2. A person who has Spirituality of Patience.

3. A person has Spirituality of Reliance.

Verse 3: Therefore they spent a long time there speaking boldly with reliance upon the Lord, who was testifying to the word of His grace, granting that signs and wonders be done by their hands. (NASB)

Isaiah 2:22 Stop trusting in man, who has but a breath in his nostrils. Of what account is he? 

Jeremiah 17:7 "But blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him.

Acts 12:1-10 "It was about this time that King Herod arrested some who belonged to the church, intending to persecute them. He had James, the brother of John, put to death with the sword. When he saw that this met with approval among the Jews, he proceeded to seize Peter also. This happened during the Festival of Unleavened Bread. After arresting him, he put him in prison, handing him over to be guarded by four squads of four soldiers each. Herod intended to bring him out for public trial after the Passover. So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him. The night before Herod was to bring him to trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries stood guard at the entrance. Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up. “Quick, get up!” he said, and the chains fell off Peter’s wrists. Then the angel said to him, “Put on your clothes and sandals.” And Peter did so. “Wrap your cloak around you and follow me,” the angel told him. Peter followed him out of the prison, but he had no idea that what the angel was doing was really happening; he thought he was seeing a vision. They passed the first and second guards and came to the iron gate leading to the city. It opened for them by itself, and they went through it. When they had walked the length of one street, suddenly the angel left him."

Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter— when you see the naked, to clothe them, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?"

For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God. We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."
