In part 2 of my conversation with Lady T, she tells us how she finally brings the charm to the Charm City and surrounding areas on FOX45’s BMORE Lifestyle segments, "Spillin' The Tea w/Lady T" and "Lemme Tell You”. Falling (Back) In Love… With the Music: Jay Fenix, Pt. 2

In Part 2 of my conversation with music producer, Jay Fenix, we pick up where we left off last week—with the beautiful partnership Jay forms with R&B sensation Ari Lennox. Then, Jay experiences burnout and a break from the industry, and tells us how he eventually returned to music by finding a way to align his love of music with the business side.

Award-Winning Music Producer Jay Fenix: Fenix Rising, Pt. 1

Award-Winning Music Producer Jay Fenix: Fenix Rising, Pt. 1

Just as his name implies, Jay Fenix’ career follows a path of resurrection. From the disappointment of hoop dreams unrealized, to becoming a grammy nominated producer, number one on the Billboard R&B, and more than 20 weeks on the Billboard Top 100! Jay Fenix is the artistry behind hits like Melanie Fiona’s “It Kills Me” and collaborations with many of our R&B faves like Ari Lennox, Jaheim and Raheem DeVaughn. He sits down with me to talk about the false starts and upsets in his music career, and ultimately what brought him back to music and finding his sound in a space full of noise.

Hurt People Hurt People: Working on the grief to get to the release.

Hurt People Hurt People: Working on the grief to get to the release.

Last week you all met LaKeya. This week she’s inviting you into another session as she prepares to guide her kids through two exercises that will be really beneficial to their long term menta, emotional and physical health as they cope with the losses of their father and grandfather. LaKeya shares some compelling observations–trauma in her husband’s past, and patterns in how her mother responds in times of conflict that might also point to traumatic life events. These two observations really represent how hurt people go on to hurt people, and how she is breaking that cycle right now.

“My kids and I lost my husband and his father just months apart”

“My kids and I lost my husband and his father just months apart”

When I developed this show, I knew I wanted it to be a space to be inspired by people on the other side of change, but also give a glimpse into the lives of people navigating the change that comes with loss and hardship in real time. In this episode you'll meet LaKeya, a mother of 5, who is dealing with the loss of her husband and his father just seven months apart. In this episode she revisits the trauma, loss and life events she's experienced to date, to identify and unlearn the unhealthy ways she coped, and support her children through grieving the loss of their father and grandfather in a healthy way.

We’ll be working through my grief recovery workbook activities, given before 4-week sessions–whether that’s a 1:1, a group session or a session with a couple or family. Participants typically complete one activity before or during the first session, then we progress through additional activities week by week.

UNC Linebacker Cedric Gray on Going Pro: Pt. 2

UNC Linebacker Cedric Gray on Going Pro: Pt. 2

Here’s part two of last week’s enlightening conversation with UNC Tar Heels Inside Linebacker, Cedric Gray, along with his NIL agent, Pet Sumner. In this episode I finally wrap my mind around what “NIL” is! And we hear from two student athletes in the DMV area who want to optimize NIL as they head into collegiate sports. All over the country the nation's top high school seniors have been committing to NCAA schools. And football gets the most attention! So this is a timely and relevant conversation about change as it relates to sports—and the road to going pro–or not.

The Road to Pro Football, Featuring UNC Linebacker Cedric Gray and NIL Agent Pet Sumner: Pt. 1

We’ve still got football fever after an historic SuperBowl featuring two Black quarterbacks! In today’s episode I’m joined by UNC Tar Heels Inside Linebacker, Cedric Gray, along with his NIL agent, Pet Sumner, who has a story that embodies the conversations we have on this show–a turning point; a life event that changes everything.

We’re talking about navigating the change from recreational athlete, to collegiate sports, to pro. The strategy, family conversations, and anxiety-producing scenarios that we aren’t typically privy to. What’s it like transitioning from amateur to pro sports? And what in the world is “NIL”!?!

What do the lonely do at Christmas? Featuring Bravo TV’s Dr. Ken

It's my last episode of 2022, so I had to make sure I left you in good hands! Today I’m joined by a very familiar face and smile! It belongs to Dr. Ken, mental health expert and licensed professional clinical counselor to individuals and families, along with premarital and relationship counseling for couples. He is the featured marriage counselor and coach on the Bravo TV franchises, Married to Medicine, the RHOA and the RHOP.

If soulful Christmas songs were played in your household you know the song, What Do the Lonely Do at Christmas… Today’s conversation is at the intersection of Dr. Ken’s specialties in both relationships and grief. Ever wanted to write a book? Author Bridgette Alfred shows us how it can help you heal.

Ever wanted to write a book? Author Bridgette Alfred shows us how it can help you heal.

This is a Thankgsiving miracle… An episode from my lost files! We experienced some technical difficulties during recording that made it seemingly impossible to release the episode. I was able to recover parts of the conversation, and the tone and timing of this conversation could not be more perfect for this time of year.

Bridgette Alfred is a past attendee from one of my workshops at the Maryland Department of Labor where I’d presented my ITSME approach. Bridgette penned a novel as a tribute to her mother who’d passed in 2016. She shares how her mother’s history helped her face her own childhood trauma and to heal. And she penned it well into her retirement, which goes to show you it’s never too late to heal and that your past is always a part of your story.

Is journaling a part of your healing and self-care toolkit? Have you ever wanted to self-publish a book? Bridgette’s story gives you some insight into the book writing and her experience working with a small, independent publisher while sharing her story and tools for healing after loss, change and trauma.

You can find Bridgette Alfred and her book, When There is H.O.P.E. at thereishopealways.com, and search her page “Hope Is Real Devotional” on Facebook.

Change After Weight Gain and Weight Loss, with DMV DOES' Jennifer Lea and Integr8 Wellness and MedSpa's Dana Rader

There’s one name you need to know to get social in the DMV. That’s Jennifer Ward, known on Facebook as Jennifer Lea–founder of the DMV Does social group on Facebook. DMV Does is a 20K+ member social group founded to to connect individuals and families across the DC, Maryland and northern Virginia cities that make up the DC and Baltimore metro areas. And that makes Jennifer the face of the brand! I reached out to Jennifer after seeing her post very openly about her weight loss journey. She told me about medically-supervised regimen and provider, Dana Rader.

Dana Rader is the owner of the boutique wellness and medical spa in Crofton, MD–just minutes from my house and I’ll be paying it a visit very soon! Dana is a doctorally prepared, board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner with over 20 years experience as a healthcare provider. Today we’re talking about change after weight gain and weight loss. I want to talk about the mental and emotional weight we carry alongside the physical change—how it can shake our confidence, and how to get it back.

You can follow and join the “DMV DOES” group on Facebook and on Instagram @dmvdoes, and connect with Jennifer Ward @jennuinesolutions. You can connect with Dana Green and her clinic at appointments@integr8wellnessandhealth.com and www.integr8wellnessandhealth.com, and on Instagram at @integr8medspa.

The Male Perspective: Dating After Divorce, Separation, and Long-term Relationships

You wanted it, and now it’s here–the male POV! The follow-up to episode 19, Changed Ever After. This week we’ll hear from three men with different experiences and points of view when it comes to dating after divorce or separation—through the lens of either being divorced, or dating women who are divorced, separated or otherwise exiting from a long-term relationship. On the panel I have:

Corey Belin, a gym owner who specializes in body transformation here in the DMV. You also know Corey from season 4 of the Oprah Winfrey Network TV show, Ready to Love as the self-proclaimed "1st date king". You’ll find him on Instagram at @coreybelin and @1stdateking, and www.1stdateking.com.

Cornelius Bryant, who also appeared on season 4 of Ready to Love. Cornelius is an engineer turned model/actor. He found love on the show and knows the complexities of healing from a previous engagement. You’ll find him at corneliusbryant_dreamchaser and www.c-bryant.com.

Malik Pollard, Network TV Producer and founder of Mad Flavor Television, who  dodged divorce initially, but ultimately made the decision to leave. Find him on Instagram at @madflavortv.

"I Moved to Mexico for my Mental, Emotional and Financial Wellness"

"I Moved to Mexico for my Mental, Emotional and Financial Wellness"

Natisha Willis is a DEI practitioner and life and wellness coach. We met when we were chosen by Brown Ambition podcast host, Mandi Woodruff-Santos, for her inaugural career coaching cohort–the Mandi MoneyMakers. We’ve been meeting and chatting since earlier this year. And I was always in awe of Natisha’s story–one of those reasons: in 2018 Natisha made a move most of us only fantasize about–she left the U.S. for a simpler, more gratifying life in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. Today she joins me to talk about living and working as an expat and how it’s improved her quality of life across the board–we’re talking mental, emotional and financial Wellness! She’s going to share her story, and we’ll discuss the cultural differences in work styles and priorities as we observe them in the DEI space. And later, we’ll hear commentary from two additional guests, my cousin Ashley Cottrell and my friend Ayoka Blandford who both made similar moves to Puerto Rico and Costa Rica, respectively. And I’ll have them all share some tips–for anyone who's considering making this kind of move, this kind of change
