EP7, American Idol's Scott MacIntyre, from Hollywood to Enduring hope,

EP7, American Idol's Scott MacIntyre, from Hollywood to Enduring hope,

Happily welcomed a personal friend and mentor, Scott MacIntyre, to the studio. Website https://scottmacintyre.com/ Check out the Song Sight Music Mentoring retreat and get involved! Link: http://songsightretreat.com/  TV Special and podcast, Enduring Hope https://scottmacintyre.com/EnduringHope "Believe Again” new song on Spotify and everywhere digital music is heard… Biography: From classical pianist to American Idol alum, Scott MacIntyre is an inspiration.  Born blind and a two-time kidney transplant recipient, he is living proof that God can take seemingly insurmountable circumstances and work them together for good. “When I was 19, I found out my kidneys were failing,” says Scott.  “The hardest thing for me was not having enough strength to play the piano and sing anymore.” After a year on dialysis, his piano teacher’s wife donated her kidney to Scott and saved his life. Eight years later, Scott was in need of a second kidney transplant, when an anonymous living donor offered to undergo compatibility testing after hearing about Scott’s need on the radio. “To think that a stranger would want to save my life was overwhelming,” Scott remarks. In 2015, Scott underwent his second successful kidney transplant.  The following year, he and his wife Christina welcomed their son Christian into the world. Having been deeply impacted by the selfless acts of Scott’s two donors, he and Christina set out to help others find hope in the midst of hardship.  In 2019 “Scott MacIntyre Ministries” was established to inspire those in need through the arts, and its timely message of redemption is resounding with thousands in schools, churches, and through television and media. “Just like I was powerless to save myself physically until my kidney donors stepped in, we’re all powerless to save ourselves spiritually, yet Jesus Christ stepped in.  I want every person who hears my music and story to understand God’s amazing grace more deeply.” On August 18th 2021, Scott and Christina celebrated 10 years of marriage and their daughter Stella’s first birthday, who was born on their anniversary the previous year. ------ Leave a review and share Scott's story with someone who may be able to benefit from such a God oriented journey. EP4, Shining a light on seasonal depression and finding good coping methods for the darker days

EP4, Shining a light on seasonal depression and finding good coping methods for the darker days

Understanding depression: Depression is a common mental disorder characterized by persistent sadness and a loss of interest in activities. It affects an estimated 264 million people worldwide. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), depression is the leading cause of disability worldwide and is a major contributor to the overall global burden of disease. Coping with seasonal depression: Seasonal depression, also known as seasonal affective disorder (SAD), is a type of depression that occurs at the same time each year, usually during the fall and winter months. According to the American Psychiatric Association, SAD affects about 5% of the U.S. population and is more common in women than men. Light therapy, which involves sitting near a light box that simulates natural outdoor light, is a common treatment for SAD. Exercise can also help alleviate symptoms of SAD. Therapy and medication: Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and talk therapy are both effective forms of treatment for depression. According to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), CBT is a type of therapy that helps individuals change negative patterns of thinking and behavior. Antidepressant medication is commonly prescribed for depression, and it can be effective for some people. However, it's important to note that medication alone may not be enough to treat depression and should be combined with therapy. Self-care and lifestyle changes: Self-care is an important aspect of managing depression and should include things like eating a healthy diet, getting regular exercise, and practicing mindfulness. According to the NIMH, regular exercise can help reduce symptoms of depression and improve overall mental health. Similarly, Eating a balanced diet that is rich in fruits, vegetables, and lean protein can also help improve mood. Support systems: Having a support system, whether it's friends, family, or a therapist, is essential for managing depression. According to the American Psychological Association (APA), social support can help individuals cope with stress and improve overall mental health. Navigating the healthcare system: Access to mental health care can be a challenge for many people. According to the NIMH, many people who need mental health services do not receive them. It's important to find a therapist or psychiatrist who is a good fit for you and to understand your insurance coverage for mental health treatment. Overcoming the stigma: Stigma surrounding mental illness is still a major barrier to seeking help. According to the NIMH, the stigma attached to mental illness can prevent individuals from seeking the help they need. It's important to educate ourselves and others about mental illness and to encourage individuals to seek help without shame. Coping strategies: Journaling, Art therapy, Mindfulness, Yoga are some of the coping strategies that have been found to be effective in managing depression. According to the APA, journaling can help individuals process their thoughts and feelings. Similarly, art therapy can help individuals express themselves in a nonverbal way. Mindfulness and yoga have been found to be effective in reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety. Special consideration for Blind people: Blind people may face additional challenges when it comes to dealing with depression. Support groups and accessibility resources specifically for blind individuals can be helpful. According to the National Federation of the Blind, there are many resources available to help blind people cope with depression and other mental health conditions.
