Session 25 - Perfectionism - How Do We Break The Cycle, And Not Ourselves? with Sarae Pratt, Thea Jolly and Harriet Waley-Cohen
Of course we're perfectionists. We learn what is 'correct' and then we try to function in the world of messy, unpredictable humans who throw curve balls every half hour!
Perfectionism isn't just about having high standards. It's when you pin your self-worth to the attainment of those standards.
When we decide something within us is unnacceptable, it becomes abhorent in others and we exercise judgement.
Until we are prepared to look at the external environment of capitalism, consumerism, social media comparison, perfectionism will continue to thrive within us and between us

Welcome to the penultimate Health Matters and this one touches on a very tough subject! Opioids are in the news a lot these days and there are moves away from over prescription. Where do Therapists fit into all this? How can we help both on an individual level and a population level.

The Flippin’ Pain Initiative is a public health campaign run by Connect Health and is a project that aims to bring contemporary pain understanding to the Lincolnshire community. In February, they launched the Flippin’ Pain brand and set out to flip the understanding of a room full of people with persistent pain with the help of pain Professors Lorimer Moseley and Cormac Ryan and set up by Connect's Head of NHS Service Development Richard Pell.
We were lucky enough to be able to send Felicity Thow with a camera and a mic to hold these three legends up for an hour on the day and even luckier that they agreed – we can’t thank Connect, Richard, Lorimer and Cormac enough for their time. Here’s what we ended up with: a podcast about bringing pain education to the masses and our role in public health within our communities.
