BAM is the concept of all aspects of life, including business, being lived under the Lordship of Jesus Christ for his glory and aligned with his eternal purpose.  Business has a God-given power and potential for good in the world. Yet too often Christian business people have not been affirmed in their call to business. Join me this week on "Prison to Pulpit" as I interview Mike Baer, a pastor, entrepreneur, theologian, and executive dedicated to equipping a whole new generation of world changers, disciples in business making disciples. "A great and effectual door has opened" Did you see it? Obviously, the pandemic has been tough for churches. It challenged our traditions and disrupted our programs. Yet when so many Christian leaders have been crying foul about their right to gather in a building, Wesley Leake, of "Business Blessings" sprang into action to bring comfort and encouragement to a frightened world. He saw a "great and effectual door open." (1 Cor 16:9) Instead of asking "Why can't I?", Wes asked, "How can I?" What followed was a series of online initiatives to support, strengthen and encourage multitudes. 18 months on, I'm asking Wes about the journey from make-do equipment and know-how, to multiple ministries, prayer groups, business groups, coaching and consulting Christian business owners and all while teaching uni. He saw the need, not the obstacle. This interview will encourage you that your effectiveness in ministry starts with seeing a "Great and effectual door opened unto you".

You may know Ramon Ray as the Smart Hustle guy whose story of entrepreneurship, grit, positivity and smart hustle is magnetic. Today I'll be going behind the scenes to hear his journey of faith, what he has overcome and how his faith impacts his work. Ramon loves God and love people. 

Ramon is a PK, a pastor's kid and he shares his early life and his later struggle to find his own faith.  He shares about being a husband and father in church, yet not connecting with God and even experiencing depression to the point of contemplating suicide.  We discuss the concept of depression in church, particularly among mature men and what it sometimes takes to break free of that bondage and find refreshment in Christ again. It might be the motivation when a child goes astray, or it might be something else.  

Ramon talks about Entrepreneurial Depression. He recommends mentorship, having someone to talk to, getting professional help where needed and spiritual help. It is demonic as well as natural. An overload of stress leads to burnout and potentially depression. Yet there is often a catalyst that jolts us into seeking  God for answers we desperately need. If it's not for our own sake, it may be for a child who has gone astray. Ramon shares the habits that help him keep him thinking clearly and staying healthy. 

Note: Some depression definitely needs professional help and we encourage people to seek it. 

How do you get that passion back? Ramon can't say what will work for everyone but he does recommend you keep asking, keep desiring and don't wait for something negative to motivate you to change because you may not come back from it.

A fascinating interview with Pastor Alan Wills who has spent decades in ministry starting a church from scratch, with no resources but faith. I asked about behind the scenes highs and lows. He shares some of what it took to grow into a thriving church that saw many miracles. He also gives insights into plateaus and disappointments and what he learned to do to overcome them and rise to the next level.  When faced with retirement, Alan knew in his spirit there was more. "The anointing is still there, you can still make an impact with it." This is an exhortation to pastors facing retirement, who may feel like they are being put out to pasture and ignored. That is a wrong mindset. Don't get bitter, ask the Lord what's next. If you are a pastor facing retirement, don't give up on your calling, you are not done. You are needed, lift and shift your vision. We still need you!
