True North Project

By Christian Dockstader

Welcome to True North Project. TNP is an odyssey to discover the more beautiful world our hearts know is possible. TNP is a podcast comprised of equal parts sense-making, soul searching, and storytelling. I'm living the millennial van life in a playful attempt to reclaim sovereignty, create authentically, and orient myself towards True North (Ikigai). This odyssey leads down the open road of curiosity and synchronicity, to the doorstep of visionaries, creatives, and live players.

Storyteller episodes are a way for us to share our experiences on this odyssey of sense-making, soul searching, and storytelling. We are going to use these shorter episodes to share cool stories, talk about van life, get creative with filming, and whatever else feels authentic. These episodes are typically going to be shorter, more casual conversations between Christian and Lily (and possibly guests in the future).

If you want to follow our journey on the road, these episodes are for you.

#11 Calvin Wayman - Seeking the Forbidden Fruit

Calvin Wayman is an entrepreneur, author, and skeptic. Calvin and I both grew up with a similar fundamentalist mormon background amidst plural wives, patriarchal control, and massive families. In this conversation we discuss the concept of forbidden knowledge (including psychedelics), herd mentality and group think (including cults), and our journeys of leaving the fundamentalist fold. This was one of my favorite conversations to date as there is no shortage of juicy content and taboo topics.

#5: CES Letter - The Mormon Red Pill

In 2012 a Mormon named Jeremy Runnells compiled a document of concerns and inconsistencies he found with the Book of Mormon, the early history of the church, and several other aspects of the Mormon faith. He sent this letter to the CES Director of the Church and published it online. The letter has since gone viral among the Mormon community and has contributed to the mass exodus of Mormons leaving the faith.

Let's dive in and see what all the fuss is about shall we?

You can access the letter for free at: https://cesletter.org

#4: Alan Mathesson - Former Fire Chief and Medic

Alan Mathesson was a former fire chief and medic here in the Southern Utah area. Alan was medically retired at the ripe old age of 30 due to the almost inconceivable stress put on his body and mind by his service. He's gone through some devastating experiences, fought off an opioid dependency (multiple times), and has battled with PTS (Post-traumatic Stress).

I hope this conversation is as beneficial to you as it was to me. This conversation really changed the way I see first responders, firefighters, and others putting themselves up close and personal with fear and death.
