Resource Spotlight: Jerry Bridges, God Took Me by The Hand: A Story of God's Providence
Teaching God's sovereignty while telling an autobiographical story is not something I had considered, till reading this book.
Bridges weaves his story into a teaching on how God can work in and through a life that purposefully allows Him to move people and things. He shares the most influential parts of his journey with candor and humility. From the end of World War II to his heart surgery in 2012, he shares how God plotted an unlikely path toward becoming one of the most influential authors in modern Christianity. Of course that statement may be up for debate, but I do not know many people who have not at least heard of The Pursuit of Holiness. His life moves in concert with the development an expansion of the ministry of the Navigators.

We were dead!
We begin chapter two today. Paul describes the deadness of the lost and our need for Christ.
The Apostle Paul opens chapter two with a continuation of what he just said in chapter one. Paul spent the past few verses exalting Christ. In that exultation he says Christ is head of all things. Jesus is given as head of the church over all things, so Paul exalted Christ to the highest place. In the next sentence he reminds the Ephesians who they were before Christ, "you were dead in your trespasses and sins." He also says in Colossians chapter two "you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh." In Romans he talks about bearing the fruit of death in our bodies. Paul is making a very clear, that we were dead.
Before we knew Christ, we were dead to God.
