Notre Dame beat down Boston College this weekend, and all was right in the world. The Irish are back to beating the Eagles on the regular and the games are rarely close anymore. While Notre Dame was making their final pitch to the playoff committee, their main rival was pitching their new head coach. The Fighting Irish throttled Stanford 45-14 to finish the season 11-1 and will be left to wait on their playoff fate from the committee and need help to get in. Brian Kelly took a shorthanded and sick team to Charlottesville, Virginia to play the Cavaliers, who were also without starting QB Brennan Armstrong, and came out victorious for the 9th time in 10 tries in 2021. It was at times sloppy, other times dominating, and mostly methodical as Kelly's Irish move to 6th in the AP poll and look toward the newest playoff rankings coming on Tuesday. Notre Dame stifled the vaunted running attack of their military rival Navy, holding them to 166 yards on 55 carries, and wore them down on the ground to move their #10 ranked team to 8-1 on the season. It was a sluggish start for the Irish offense, but the defense started strong and stayed that way throughout, in a stellar performance for defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman in his first game against the Middies as the Notre Dame DC. Notre Dame left Lane Stadium on Saturday with a 5-1 record thanks for another win over an ACC opponent (the Irish are 25-1 in the regular season against the ACC since 2017).  It was a wild rollercoaster of a ride, but when it was over, the Irish were on top and might just finally have some direction on offense for the rest of the year.  More quarterback talk - what did we see and who should start the rest of the season Clarity on the offensive line? There's been some chatter outside among national media types that this year's Notre Dame team is going to not be very good because the Irish lost a lot of talent.  Those people seem to want to ignore that the replacements Notre Dame has coming in to replace them are just as good in many cases though and to be honest, we got a little tired hearing about Notre Dame potentially only winning 8 games in 2021.  So, we ran through the schedule looking for losses, and guess what folks?  It's hard to many any, let alone four.

In our latest episode of Single High, we ran through about 30 different Notre Dame style prop bets and predictions with special guest Ashton Pollard.  The three of us made predictions on things like who will led Notre Dame in receiving, sacks, and tackles.  Which is the biggest trap game on the schedule?  Who will score the most points on Notre Dame?  Who will the Irish score the most points on?  We dive into all of that and a whole heck of a lot more.  This one might be a two beer pod for those of you drinking along. 

After talking about the offensive side of the ball last week, we spent this week on the defense.  A recent interview Notre Dame defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman gave shed some light on what is making him so effective in recruiting at Notre Dame.  We do a deep dive on what Freeman said and talk about some differences between his approach and Clark Lea's.  We also talk about Notre Dame's newest commitment - 4-star linebacker Jaylen Sneed.  

Well, folks, we have officially earned our moniker as the Single High Podcast thanks to our brand spanking new introduction by none other than All-American safety Kyle Hamilton.  We were also joined by Irish Sports Daily's Jamie Uyeyama to break down the Notre Dame offense and recruiting.  it's a jam-packed episode!

This week we intended to focus solely on the Notre Dame offensive line and the job that Jeff Quinn has done on the recruiting trail and on the field, but Marcus Freeman and Mike Elston also forced us to spend a good bit of time talking about how ridiculous DE recruiting has been.  We also did a deep dive into what Jeff Quinn has done well - spoiler it's a lot - and where he still has something to prove as the Offensive Line Coach at Notre Dame.  We also learned a very valuable lesson this week - don't let Greg try to record the podcast from his car because it only leads to having to re-record the whole damn show.  

We started off this episode talking about whether Notre Dame's run-first offensive identify that they formed in 2020 is good enough to win a national championship or if they need to start airing it out more.  We ended up also talking about why it's OK to enjoy Notre Dame being good at football again and why the program is in a really good place even if there is more work to do to reach the ultimate goal.  

Greg and Frank talk about expectations for the 2021 season and in particular, what to expect at the wide receiver position.  We dive into the change at the position over the last year, what the best/worst-case scenarios are, and where the position is headed.  Greg also offers some advice to Frank following a heartbreaking loss by his beloved 76ers earlier in the week.
