60. Thuy's Last Hurrah/Goodbye

Heya! It's Thuy here. No, this is not click bait, the title is sadly true :( After almost 3 years working on this podcast, recording 60 episodes and meeting a fkload of the most beautiful souls, it is time to say my goodbyes. I made the decision about a year ago to sunset my time at UA and now we're releasing my final episode as co-host! NGL, this kinda feels like a break-up 😂 However, I'll be leaving this poddy in Tiana's most capable hands.  From the bottom of my usually icy heart, thank you. Over the years, your sweet messages and words of encourage have thawed that ice box and I've definitely grown and changed as a person because of the listeners and guests who have supported this podcast.  Apparently this won't be the last of me!! I'll be back to make a guest appearance every now and then if Tiana will have me LOL but UA will always have a special place in my heart. Sending absolute love and good vibes my dudes. Over and out ✌️ xx Thuy E P I S O D E O U T L I N E ------------------------------------------ Why Thuy's leaving What's next in store for UA?! Walking down memory lane - reminiscing the good times! 59. Natalie Tran aka CommunityChannel // Being AZN Enough & Discovering Mi Goreng

When we were planning to create Unapologetically Asian a few years ago, we thought to ourselves 'who would be the GOLDEN PERSON to interview?’ Immediately we both said COMMUNITY CHANNEL. Fast forward two years, 1 campaign and 58 episodes later; we’re bloody proud to release this episode with the amazing Natalie Tran. Natalie started uploading videos to YouTube back when people posted video ‘replies’ rather than comments…what??? Although she’s not as active on the YouTube any more, her videos remain #iconic in the Australian Internet landscape. From addressing everyday first world problems to travelling the globe with The Lonely Planet (pre-covid of course) and other avenues, Natalie has really paved the way for Australian Asians in media and a place in our hearts (lol lame but we luv u Nat). Listen in as we break down the tension between National governments after the arrest of Asian Australian journalist Cheng Lei and how representation in the form of Barbie Dolls will have a lasting impact on the growing mindset of future generations. Disclaimer!!: We are not subject experts in politics or economics and this is just our understanding of the articles covered. We are always open to learning and educating ourselves so please reach out if you’ve got any thoughts or comments on this episode, we’d love to hear your feedback!

Uh-oh. There's a 4 in the title of this episode! What's wrong with that, you may wonder? Well, according to Asian superstitions, the number 4 sounds eerily similar to the word 'death' in Chinese and Japanese and is hence considered a very unlucky number. In this episode, we dabble into the (in)auspicious world of Asian superstitions and the supernatural world where we uncover some of the beliefs we've grown up with or stumbled across in our lives.  Did you grow up with any of the ones we've covered? 43. Breaking Down Your Walls: Understanding Attachment Styles

Do you sometimes put up a wall up in relationships because you don't want to get hurt? Do you constantly crave attention from your partner and always wonder whether they actually like you? Are you able to give and receive love confidently? Attachment Theories is a psychological and evolutionary concept that breaks down human behaviour in social settings into 4 main groups: Secure, Dismissive-avoidant, Anxious-preoccupied and Fearful-avoidant attachments. Conceptualised by psychologist John Bowlby and further developed by psychologist Mary Ainsworth, these attachment theories can be used to help understand why we react and behave in certain ways when it comes to romantic/ platonic relationships. We both took this quiz to find out how what our attachment styles are and break it down in this episode! E P I S O D E O U T L I N E ------------------------------------------ •What the attachment theories are and how they originated •What are the different types of attachment styles? •K-Dramas and attachment styles?! •Revealing our test results... :O •Ways to move into a secure attachment style •Recommendations T I M E S T A M P S -------------------------------- 02:05 Intro to topic & discussion begins 22:35 Scoopy Ad Break 28:14 Recommendations If you'd like to continue the conversation, please message us. 42. We Found Love (Languages) in a Hopeless Place

Alrighty, so this is not the hit song by Calvin Harris & Rihanna BUT it is all about the theory of love languages baby!!!! Ahh, love is complex innit. As we try to navigate different romantic and non-romantic relationships, it is important to understand that humans give and receive love in different ways. According to Dr Gary Chapman's book The Five Love Languages: How to Express Heartfelt Commitment to Your Mate, there are 5 different expressions of love: •Acts of Service •Physical Touch •Words of Affirmation •Gifts •Quality Time We both took the quiz to find out how we each give and receive love and divulged all in this episode! Based on our experiences growing up as Asian Australians, we also applied an Asian household lens on the love languages and spoke about how love was present in our homes and why that might be the case. E P I S O D E O U T L I N E ------------------------------------------ •Intro to love languages •Guessing each other's love language •Discussing our results •How love languages have impacted our relationships •Talking about how our results might correlate w/ how we received or saw love as a child •Looking at love languages from a non-romantic perspective •Asian households x love languages T I M E S T A M P S -------------------------------- 02:00 Intro to topic & discussion begins If you'd like to continue the conversation, please message us. Minari Mini Film Review [BONUS EP]

Minari Mini Film Review [BONUS EP]

Disclaimer: this is NOT a sponsored episode! We were so excited to have the opportunity to attend an advance screening of the breathtaking film, Minari. Minari is a movie written and directed by Lee Isaac Chung and starring Steven Yuen, Han Ye-Ri, Young Yuh-jung, Alan S. Kim, Noel Cho and Will Patton. It's a film that centres around a Korean immigrant family chasing the American dream. Throughout Minari are elements of family, perseverance and strength. Although, we are both not Korean-American, we absolutely resonated with the film's heart and appreciated the beautiful cinematography and score. Being huge supporters of Asian representation and arts, we highly recommend that you go out to your local cinemas and support this film! We were not paid to record this episode, however want to say a massive thank you to Madman Entertainment for giving us the opportunity to witness such a powerful and moving movie. 15. Breaking through the Bamboo Ceiling

The bamboo ceiling is the construct that mitigates Asians from progressing to leadership positions within an organisation. In this episode, we deep dive into the possible causes of the bamboo ceiling, our own experiences in the boardroom and how we can work together as Asian Australians to counteract this problem in our society. 11. Dating Us Be Like...

Amidst this bleak time of uncertainty, we wanted to do something fun and silly to help brighten up your day. So, we decided to write Subtle Asian Dating-esque profiles for each other. Basically, a list of pros and cons of dating the other person. We have a juicy discussion about whether wholesome LGs actually exist, uncover Thuy's logic about why she's always late & try to deduce whether Tiana's jokes are endearing or actually just plain dorky and lame af. BTW, this is all for shits & gigs and we didn't actually post this lel (and will not post this unless... @Harry Styles or @Dean wishes to slide into our dms) hehehe.
