Season 4 of Diary of an Unemployed Actor comes to an end. In this update I will let you know my plans for the next season of the show, and why it has been so long since an episode has posted.

Mikail Chowdhury is an Emmy nominated producer and award-winning filmmaker, writer, and director. In this episode of "Rip It Up," Kev and Milo are joined by poet Fin Hall to discuss how they would feel if their work was stolen. They also posed the question to the public in a survey and discuss the results. Fin recites two of his poems for us.

Introducing a new series called “Rip It Up.” The concept is to discuss  the issues that are affecting artists these days, such as can we  separate the artist from the art they create? In an era where artists  are being held liable for their behavior, can we still appreciate the  movies, music, or other art they create while not appreciating the  person themselves? 

These debates will include special guests and  be held in a manner a bit different from most. We will behave like  civilized people, let people have opinions that might differ from ours.

On this week's episode of Diary of an Unemployed Actor, I am speaking with Quinn Angell. 

Quinn Angell grew up in the Dallas Fort Worth area not really interested in acting, but that changed when his stepfather came into his life. Quinn started acting when he was a teenager, then studied Theatre and History at the University of North Texas. During his time in college, he began doing voiceover work at Funimation Entertainment. Through his time, he played roles in different anime dubs, such as Golden Kamuy, Akashic Records, Black Clover, ID: Invaded, Taboo Tattoo, and Knights and Magic. He also played background voices in shows like One Piece, Clockwork Planet, How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord, and others. Now, he acts in voiceover, on-camera and writes when he can.

Caitlyn Piccirillo is a New York based actress and singer. She received a BFA (Acting) from Adelphi University, and a MA (Theatre) from CUNY Hunter College. Recent (pre-COVID) credits include “Ragtime” (Ensemble) with Village Light Opera Group, and “Home” (Mortimer/ Puppeteer) with Evolve Puppets.  Some of her favorite quarantine Zoom readings have included: “Dance Nation” (Brittany), “The Music Man” (Marian), “The Little Mermaid” (Ursula), “The Wild Party” (Kate), and “Guys and Dolls” (Sarah Brown).  Caitlyn now lives in New York City, with her partner, her books, and her cats. She is currently auditioning for projects as well as freelancing as a SFX makeup artist, production assistant, and dramaturg for different projects.

At the age of 55, Paul E. Kandarian audition for his first stage production, and with no experience was cast as the lead. He is now a full-time actor, having performed in dozens of films, short and long, TV commercials, industrial videos, educational videos, and theatre productions. He is also a career-long writer, working in newspapers since 1982 and still doing magazine writing and travel pieces.

In my discussion with Kev Bamboo, we spend a while discussing immigration and the reasons why people move from countries and that it is not always by a desire to move but a necessity. And speaking of Coronavirus we talk about roles that would have happened if not for the fact that filmmaking was canceled due to the COVID-19 lockdown.

Kev is a British actor who has been likened to Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes from The Walking Dead) and Kristofer Hivju (Tormund Giantsbane from Game of Thrones) when in varying states of beard length! Kev was once the face of Grolsch Lager, where they subsequently turned his face into a work of art!

In this episode I speak with actor Robbie Stedman. In my discussion with Ross K. Foad we talk about the entertainment industry and the way it deals with performers who have disabilities and how the industry seems to be making changes in providing more opportunity. Ross has also made a few web series so he provides us with some information on making a web series should that be something you are interested in doing.

Ross K. Foad was born in Kingston Upon Thames, Surrey. Both of his parents are actors, and his brother is an SFX make up artist. Born Autistic and Dyspraxic, he made his acting debut aged 18 months with an advertisement for Pampers, but would initially choose to pursue writing, becoming a published comic strip writer aged 14-years old. He would return to acting in his late teens when he joined the Penthouse Cabaret as a sketch actor and stand-up comedian. He would go on to garner experience in various mediums including short films, tv, web series, plays, radio, and video games. In 2017, he was one of only 30 disabled actors chosen by the BBC for its Class Act Training Scheme, an initiative to help increase disabled representation on screen.  Outside of acting, he is a keen film maker, and has written over 150 shorts/features/and web series episodes.

Eugene Capon, previously a social media creative director before entering the XR field in 2016, self-produced/animated the 360 film Journey VR which was shown at Seattle Fashion Week. The short film was well received and was quickly included as a staff pick by VeeR, Adobe and the Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF).

Soon after it was included for the steam 360 program where it was the top 360 film for over 30 days. He followed up by recreating the first level of Super Mario Bros as a 360 video which currently has over 8 million views on YouTube. His long list of companies and brands hes worked with include Microsoft, Skype, Wizards of the Coast, Altspace, High Fidelity, Go Media, Dalziel, McDonalds and Jack in the Box.

In my talk with Eugenie, he discusses how he studied virtual reality and YouTube that lead to his career as a digital content creator. We talk about what VR is and that turning point where VR becomes mainstream. And we also discuss the change in movies where actors are being replaced by digital versions of themselves.

In this episode of "Diary of an Unemployed Actor," I speak with Adam Broomfield-Strawn. We talk about living a healthy lifestyle, acting, and his experience as a presenter. 

Adam Broomfield-Strawn is a London based actor, presenter, Voiceover, Comedian, award winning public speaker who also runs his own business as an NLP practitioner and Lifecoachhelping others to become the best version on themselves, overcome negative habits and/or mindsets and achieve their goals.

Adam has performed at the Edinburgh Festival fringe 4 times with solo shows, has worked as an extra, body double as well as speaking rolls in films such as The last dragon slayer (Sky 1) and Martin Freeman's Breeders (Sky 1). He has also starred in adverts for Mastercard, Ring.com, Dacia and many others.

Adam came to the industry very late at the age of 42 having worked in the corporate world until quitting in 2015, getting a divorce, claiming bankruptcy and moving to Surrey to rent a box room in the home of a former 1960's model and pop star wife.

Adam has worked tirelessly to not only make up for lost time but to also help others starting out or working in the industry by formatting and sharing his extensive list of useful links to websites, companies, YouTube channels and other sites of value to performers in this country.

He is, by his own admission, NOT a full-time, "successful" actor but merely a performer committed to making his way in the industry. He is committed to helping others and showing what can be done with hard work, determination and a "never give in"attitude.

Sharisse Zeroonian started making films at the age of 12 on an old camera and editing them on Windows Movie Maker. However, she never intended to be a filmmaker instead she planned to be a teacher, but things change. She is now writing, producing, and directing films and television. She tells us about the experience of having a film screening where one-person shows up to watch the film, dealing with crazy people on the train while on her way to a shoot, and then losing a tripod. And we discuss the realities of no-budget filmmaking. It is hard work, but work that is worth it for the reward of the experience and final product.

Zuzana Spacirova is a bilingual actress (English/Slovak), performer, and creative. She has been performing on stage since the age of 15 and since her relocation to London, she has been acting professionally on both stage and screen, including critically acclaimed Twelfth Night at the Young Vic theatre and the short film I SEE that received funding from BFI and premieres on Amazon Prime in summer 2020. In 2018 she graduated from the London school of dramatic art with Advanced Diploma in Acting.

He also does an excellent job of balancing a career in engineering while also pursuing acting and writing on his days off, proving that you don't need to be full-time to enjoy the creative arts. In my talk with Patricia Barnicott we discuss her long history as an actress starting at the age of 14, having to give it up for many years, then getting back into it later in life.

Still going strong at 82, she has some great stories about being on set and working as an extra, performing in musical theatre around the world. Patricia is most well-known for portraying Granny Pat, where she would interview rappers such as Sean Paul. She has worked as an extra in quite a lot of films for BBC and ITV, and other smaller films. She has also played many parts in amateur plays, pantomimes, musicals, murder weekends, and concerts. She ran a small group who went around to care homes to sing - and is still in 2 singing groups. Her singing has taken her to many places, including Disney World, Florida, with the Disney orchestra and chorus. Now in her 80s she is still performing, proving that you are never to old get do what you love.

Emma Bryant started her career as a model before moving into acting. She has appeared in the film "filth" and "Game of Thrones" Emma also has also performed as a standup comedian and has some hilarious stories about her experiences in front of an audience.

We also talk about how she finds roles and the value associated with being a professional on set, and networking, and maintaining good working relationships with others. She also offers some great advice for models and actresses on how to deal with someone who oversteps their bounds.

Neil Cohen is a playwright, television and film writer, illustrator, producer and director who has been working in the industry for over 30 years.

Neil co-wrote and co-directed with Zack Norman the once-lost now-found cult comedy film Chief Zabu, which The Hollywood Reporter calls “A Comic Time Capsule with a Timeless Punch.” He wrote and illustrated the children’s book American Gargoyles which the NY Times says is ‘Zany, Madcap, Raucous, Mischievous’ and which is now being developed as an animated Christmas Special. His non-fiction writing has appeared in Los Angeles Magazine, BUZZ, Playboy, and New Millennium, and he recently produced Myriah Marquez’ award-winning short documentary “The Diary of Being Uncomfortably Comfortable."

A former New Yorker living in Florida, Libbie Baylinson is a theatre and voice-over actress. I test her when it comes to the accents she can do, and we talk about auditing and finding roles. She has some excellent advice as a voice-over artist on finding characters and practicing voices.

Maccabee has an interesting back story that started with studying theater before joining the military after 9/11. From there he did the corporate 9-5 gig before getting back into acting as a voice over artist. We have a good discussion on the many white actors now who are saying they won't do voice work for black or Asian characters.

Have you ever wondered the difference between a sound designer, a sound editor, and a foley artist is? If so this is the podcast for you. Today I am speaking with Glenn Kaufman who is a freelance sound editor and designer.

Glenn is full of knowledge and relays a few stories of his times on the set, while also explaining what the difference between a designer and foley artist is. And he provides some advice for people looking to get into editing as a career.

The sound editor’s responsibilities are to prepare all dialogue, background sounds, sound effects, and music for the final mix.

Sound Designers are responsible for providing any required sounds to accompany screen action. They work closely with the production mixer, sound supervisor, the editor, and the director to create an original sound element

Eamon started his career a bit later than most. First begining with a traditional career before getting a role as an extra in a theatrical production that had nearly every great actor in Ireland in it. 

After that, he did an acting foundation course as the Gaiety school in 1994 before going back to his day job. Then in 2006, he got into standup comedy before as Maisie Elliott for 7 years. Then in 2012, he started classes with The Focus Theatre, where he also worked in bar and box office. Finished training with them in 2016 and Started acting full time.
