Continuing my episodic series on MacLaren Hall, I speak to Claudia Flowers, who began her career in Social Work in 1993 and remained at the facility until its closing. This is Part 1 of 2. 

MacLaren Hall Children's Center has been called "Los Angeles' Dirty Little Secret". Owned by the county, It once housed thousands of kids removed from their homes for various reasons and placed at what was to be a temporary facility until a suitable foster home became available. Disproportionately, poor single mothers without the proper resources would lose their children to foster care. Many were victimized at the hands of those with a duty to protect them, resulting in lawsuits and the facility shut down.
