The Server Room Show - Episode 66 - Cyber Security Awareness
Cyber security awareness presentations are frequently done in enterprises , I present a few myself every now and then, to new employees and also as a refresher course later on to keep them alert and as part of it corporations like to do phishing exercises and other kind of live/unannounced forms of testing employee awareness and ability around cyber security threats.
In my opinion this episode is best consumed together with Episode 2 I did on Security 101 as some of the topics mentioned here are overlapping with the ones mentioned and discussed in that Episode for example the rules and safety about passwords and many other things I discussed there.

If You are interested further as this episodes and shownotes are a very stripped down version of the work of Dr Marshall Kirk Mckusick´s notes and presentations Please consider purchasing His DVD of the History Of Berkeley Software Distributions from which this episode excerpts its facts and figures and historical recounting.
It is a near 4 hours long 2 parts presentation which recounts the History of BSD from the early days and another lecture about the Modern FreeBSD. It is great fun to watch and own and definitely a better recount of the events with many fun facts and personality as I could ever do myself.

Open Source Revolution
If You are interested further as this episodes and shownotes are a very stripped down version of the work of Dr Marshall Kirk Mckusick´s notes and presentations Please consider purchasing His DVD of the History Of Berkeley Software Distributions from which this episode excerpts its facts and figures and historical recounting.
It is a near 4 hours long 2 parts presentation which recounts the History of BSD from the early days and another lecture about the Modern FreeBSD. It is great fun to watch and own and definitely a better recount of the events with many fun facts and personality as I could ever do myself.

TSR - The Server Room - Episode 24 - Interview with George Neville-Neil from FreeBSD - Part II.
Questions ( Episodes 23 - 24 / Part I. - II. ) Q1: Your earliest memories of a computer? Did You grew up around them?
Q2: Computer Science in Northeastern University in Boston
Q3: Did You get involved with BSD before or after it got taken over by Wind River?
Q4: Wind River and VxWorks ... Can You tell me more about them and Your involvement with both?
Q5: I know from other talks You gave You really like Embedded computing and the challenges which comes with them. What do You like in them?Complexity? The challenge they represent?
Q6: If You had to compare VxWorks to FreeBSD when it comes to the Embedded industry Can they compete with one another or VxWorks just leagues ahead when it comes to embedded devices? perhaps coming from that one is designed from the ground up to serve the purpose of being on embedded devices?
Q7: How did You get into FreeBSD?
1a.: NetBSD with the running it on all (including microwaves did not sound more of a challengefor someone like Yourself who hacks the kernel all day long?
Q8: You are the author/coauthor of many books on BSD and FreeBSD with Kirk McKusick
How was it to work and coauthor a technical book/paper with someone legendary like him?
Q9:
Do You think if BSD didn’t get hold up in court by ATT / Unix Systems Laboratories We would have BSD *FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD * where Linux is today and perhaps Linux did not even exist today as there would have been no gap on the market to fill which resulted L. Torvalds to write the Linux Kernel?
Q10:
On FreeBSD You are also lead of the Kernel team / whom oversee changes and improvements getting into the FreeBSD kernel.. Can You tell me more about it?
Q11: On Your website it mentions Your consulting company. Is this the typical pick my brain - hear my advice on X thing You want to do with Your company ) networking, security, etc.)?
Q12: What did You run on Your machine at home? Any special HW Or Hobby?

TSR-The Server Room – Shownotes – Episode 01
Topics for Discussion on this episode:
Home Server ISP options
Can I run a server out from Your own home? If not what alternatives I have available?
Does it worth it?
Should I use My ISP provided Modem or perhaps replace it with a 3rd party solution?
I will use the first 15-20 minutes to give my two cents about the above and then I open the phonelines for comments / opinions / debate from the audience.
If no callers then I just continue discussing some parts of these in more details.
Voicemail and Calling queue configured on the DID|VOIP|SIP line…During the show calls are placed in a queue if the line is busy and when offline calls go to a voicemail so You can feel free to leave your comments and ideas that way if You prefer..

Shownotes for Episode 00
I would like to take this as a pre-flight checklist, to talk about everything a little bit in general but not too much in detail just yet.
To draw the landscape of What, When , Where, How….
What is The Server Room when it comes to Me? I could have called it a Homelab as I refer to it many times when I have the need to describe where I spend most of my time and on what… What do I do for a living? ( for all those who have not opened any of those links on the top of this page) A quick rundown of Hardware I own as of 09/11/2019 General Topics I’m normally interested in and bother enough to investigate and learn more about:
1., Computer Hardware (not the electronics tough) anything and everything from new to old I love to look at them try them run them own them. Switches, Servers, Workstations, Thin Clients, Monitors, Terminal Emulators, Printers, Keyboards, Firewalls, UPS …. If You Can Plug It In Im Probably Interested
2.,Operating Systems (From Dos, BSD, Unix , Linux To Mac OS X, Windows, AIX, HPUX , IBM zOS and IBM Power Architecture, Solaris .. . any and every)
3.,Virtualization and Emulation (ESXI, Proxmox ,,,, Qemu, KVM, Stormasys CHARON Commercial Alpha, Vax, PDP, Sun emulators software )
4., Network: Switches, Routers, Firewalls, LoadBalancers, Cloud (Azure, AWS, Oracle,Google), SDN – Software Defined Networks
5., Enterprise Solutions: Things like SCCM or other (Altiris) OSD – Operating System Deployment, Centralized Backup Solutions ( Veeam Backup Suite and Virtual Quadrstor Tape Library both available free for Homelabbers)
Im sure there is more but this is how much came to mind for now….
What this show could become? Could it be more interactive? Have calls-in on a DID VOIP Number? Should it have acompanying multimedia content * screen recordings/screencasts of things I do or talk about while doing clicky noise with the keyboard including errors and mistakes?
