Despite her deep connection to Montbello, Jacqueline and her family made the difficult choice to attend school outside of the Montbello Neighborhood in hopes of better educational opportunities. Jacqueline breaks down this decision and the work she looks to do in the future to ensure quality options for Montbello's youth.

Thank you for listening to The Voice of Montbello Podcast! In today’s episode, we interview Jonathan Osborne, a trial attorney. An educator at our school named Mrs. Gorman set up this interview for us because, well, Jonathan is her older brother!
Jonathan K. Osborne is a trial attorney and former federal prosecutor, who concentrates his practice in the areas of business disputes, corporate investigations, and white-collar criminal defense.
In his daily practice, he represents clients in state and federal courts and before arbitration tribunals; leads internal investigations; and defends businesses and their interests when faced with government scrutiny.
Formerly, as an Assistant United States Attorney in the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida, Jonathan prosecuted criminal cases involving allegations of fraud; computer crimes and identity theft; human smuggling; international narcotics trafficking; and violent gangs.
Outside of work, Jonathan loves mentoring students and serves on advisory boards for community-based organizations. Before law school, he played college basketball at the University of Las Vegas and the University of Alaska-Fairbanks and obtained a Master of Arts degree from UNLV in Communication Studies.
We spoke to Jonathan to learn more about what motivated him to become a lawyer. We also discussed inequities in the criminal justice system and police reaction to protests.

Dr. Jack Wetter: Survivor Stories
In this episode, you will hear our interview with holocaust survivor Dr. Jack Wetter. An extraordinary educator and a member of our McGlone Community, Ms. Peleg, set up this interview so we can hear a first-hand account of what happened during the holocaust and the effects it had on the people who survived. They are heroes because they overcame so many tragic moments and survived to tell their stories so that we can learn to treat one another with empathy and respect.
The interview was so interesting, and we were so excited because many of our classmates had the opportunity to ask questions. We learned that Dr. Wetter and his family hid inside a basement. He didn’t remember anything because he was just a baby during the events of the holocaust. However, the tragic events impacted him physically and mentally for the rest of his life. He talked to us about how he overcame challenges and obstacles in his life to become a successful psychologist who shares his story to inspire others.

In this episode we welcome Kwame Spearman CEO of The Tattered Cover Bookstore. In December of 2020, Kwame, and his business partner David Back purchased the Tattered Cover because they know how important the store is to the Denver Community. The purchase made the Tattered Cover the largest black owned independent book store in America. It is so cool that this place exists right here in our own community.
We asked Kwame about his experiences as a black entrepreneur to learn more about what or who inspired him to get into business.
For this interview, Kwame called in virtually and we invited some younger students in to speak to Kwame with us. You will hear questions from Tru, Jayveon, Dorianda and Avayah. Becoming Artists: Lessons from a Poetry Mural Project with Adri Norris and Franklin Cruz
How do you become an Artist? In this episode, we learn how 4th graders from McGlone Academy tapped into their artist selves by engaging in a Poetry Mural Project with artists Adri Norris and Franklin Cruz. Students met virtually with Franklin, who facilitated engaging and powerful writing experiences that built community and helped young writers surface their inner artist to write words of inspiration to share with the Montbello Community. Inspired by youth poems during the workshops, Artist Adri Norris designed and painted a mural to honor Selena Quintanilla in the entrance of McGlone Academy. Several of the poems that inspired the mural are included in the piece to uplift students and families in the community.

I Love the Bell-Side: Isaura Ibarra
This episode kicks off our I love the Bell-Side Series where we interview Montbello youth who are transitioning or have recently transitioned into the post-secondary life, headed to college, taking a gap year, working on art starting a business or any other dope venture Montbello youth want to take on. We hope to learn about their experiences growing up in Montbello, things they love and things they would like to change about the community.
Throughout COVID and the Black Lives Matter movement, Montbello youth have stepped up in many ways to serve the community and we hope to amplify their voices through these episodes.
To kick things off we will hear from Isaura Ibarra. Isaura’s family moved to Montbello when she was 10 years old and attended John H. Amesse Elementary, shout out the road runners, and recently graduated from Northfield High School. Being from Ft. Morgan, Isaura learned many crucial lessons from folx in Montbello and established her identity through those experiences. She is an avid advocate for Montbello Youth and is especially passionate about reshaping education experiences for youth in the community.
