In this week's episode, Beau sits down with Ivan Iler who was on the Netflix series Metal Shop Masters. Ivan talks about his musical past in a band called Thump Keg, how his life has changed since going on the show, the types of projects he likes to do that let his creativity soar, and getting into bronze learning from a master in his own right, Rodger Smith from Michigan Art Castings, who has had work featured in the Smithsonian Institute.

Justin talks about his journey from working on pit crews and getting his start in making videos through vlogging. The one, the only... WELD ZOMBIE! What can I say about this guy? He kind of took me by surprise. I noticed him on Instagram and saw that he had his own Weld Zombie welding gloves, a custom MIG CUP and just some really great ideas for the industry! I had to find out more about who was behind these ideas and understand how he came up with them. He has a unique story with experience growing up on the rig and then structural steel. We talk about everything from handling massive I-beams, the thought process behind making products for welders by a welder and also some suggestions for must have tools if you are working on structural steel.

A few weeks ago, I met Craig Cowan at The Barefoot Forge. I found him by looking up the #pittsburghwelding to find someone local to me to visit. Little did I know that I was going to be exposed to a whole other side of the industry, the maker community. Craig not only offers intro to welding classes, he also has date night/girl's night classes such as making a rose, a railroad spike bottle opener and his most popular Damascus wedding rings. Couples can actually travel to his location (which is about to be an even bigger space) and create their own set of wedding rings. It is one of the most creative ideas I've ever heard and just makes the meaning of the ring so much more. Dale Spilker and I co-host an episode featuring Brian Treat, the acting Trade Superintendent for welders and fitters at Newport News Shipyard in Virginia. Brian shares information and advice for applying to their sought after apprenticeship program. He also shares about how he started in that same program and the path he took to get to where he is today. We are going to share a post podcast blog next week with all of the information. 

This week's guest is Brad Michaud AKA @the_welding_hobo He's from Lafayette, Louisiana and welds in the shipyard down there. He was first introduced to welding at just 15 years old. His biggest advice is to be patient, you can't UPS overnight success. He also gave us some great ideas for welding certification tests to cover in upcoming videos! Barbie the Welder has inspired so many women to enter skilled trades. She exudes confidence and passion for her work. We talked to Barbie about why she got into welding, some of her favorite sculptures to date and the significance of the pieces. 

Steve Darnell has a business in Las Vegas called WelderUp. He has also been on the Discovery Channel on "Vegas Rat Rods." We've talked to Steve several times about the younger generation of welders and how just not so many are entering skilled trades. He has a true passion for passing on his knowledge about welding and how to start a business. Steve created a Welder 101 course to help those interested in learning to weld and even has an in person class at this shop. He is such a down to earth guy and if you are ever in Vegas, you should definitely go see him!

Ben Arn is the Director of Welding & Certification and CWI at Warren Fabricating & Machining Corp. in Warren, Ohio. In this episode, we talk about the win/win of automation in the welding industry. Too often, we hear that welders are scared that a machine will replace their jobs and we discuss how that's not really how automation works. Technology is always advancing in our industry and those who embrace it, will benefit from the knowledge they seek. Not to mention the health benefits and saving your back!
