As a nutritionist, I will always promote 'food first'. This isn't always the popular choice as many people don't want to give up certain food in order to get healthy and would prefer to continue eating and living the way they do and pop a pill.

There are two types of inflammation: acute and chronic. People are most familiar with acute inflammation. This is the redness, warmth, swelling, and pain around tissues and joints that occurs in response to an injury, like when you cut yourself. When the body is injured, your immune system releases white blood cells to surround and protect the area.


In contrast, when inflammation gets turned up too high and lingers for a long time, and the immune system continues to pump out white blood cells and chemical messengers that prolong the process, that's known as chronic inflammation.

Food today isn’t what it was just half a century ago. Much of the problem lies in the fact that our food supply is largely depleted of beneficial trace minerals and other key nutrients that have been stripped from the soils as a result of chemical-based agriculture. The healing compounds that are meant to fortify our bodies against toxic breakdown are all but missing from the foods that most people eat every day, resulting in an epidemic of nutrient deficiencies. 

Then there’s the plethora of cancer-causing toxins present in our food, as well as in water. Toxins that, in many cases, were birthed from the same failed philosophy of “better living through chemistry” that led to the stripping of nutrients from our soils and the advent of widespread chronic disease.

Together again with my BFF and bizbestie Dana Irvine of D'vine Wellness as we are every morning on Facebook. Occasionally we have an episode that stands out.. for us anyways, and this was one of them. 

Today we had a special guest join us, Kayla Soomer from PARO. Dana and I are members of this great woman entrepreneur's initiative PARO, that literally means "I am ready". It's been in existence for about 25 years now, starting off in Thunder Bay, Ontario now reaching throughout all of Ontario, Canada. 

PARO assists women in small business to build and keep momentum in their businesses by providing peer learning, grants and loans and networking events. One in particular is being held May 6, 2021 and will be completely virtual. Yours truly is part of a circle (#WellnessWarriors) within Paro that will be providing an informal chat at this incredible event.
