What I Wish My Mother Taught Me
By Nikki / Parenting and Healing Childhood Trauma
Are there things you wish someone had told you the truth about? Things you had to learn on your own but the experience would have been much easier if someone had warned you about it or told you the honest truth about it.
I wish I knew more about things. I wish I knew more about marriage before I got married, or I wish I knew more about parenting before I became a parent.
In each episode, we’ll have conversations with other women, and sometimes men, about childhood lessons learned and lessons lost and how they impact us. Hear from real women as they discuss relationships with their mothers, their relationships with their children, what they learned from their mothers, what they teach their children. We dive into other relationships, like marriage, relationships with other women, struggles with anxiety, fear of failure, and successes.
What I Wish is an excellent opportunity to learn from other women and hear how all mothers have shared experiences. Are you ready to find deep meaning in parenting?
We’ll share real-life tips and approaches to navigating life, using what we wish we knew to help us be better parents and better to ourselves. My goal is to help mothers and daughters have a good relationship from a young age into adulthood.

Wise Little One: How to Recconect with Your Inner Child and Find Peace and Fulfillment.
On this episode of What I Wish My Mother Taught Me, I chat with Jana Wilson author of Wise Little One: Learning to Love and Listen to My Inner Child . As an emotional healing educator, meditation teacher, retreat leader, public speaker, hypnotherapist, and the founder of the Emotional Healing System, Jana Wilson has helped thousands heal from the pain of their past.
A victim of childhood abuse and trauma, Jana Wilson could have wound up another statistic. Yet, at the age of twelve, she had a mystical experience that catapulted her on a life-long journey of learning to listen and love herself. In her breakout prescriptive memoir Wise Little One, we follow Jana as she develops a connection to her inner child.
A riveting tale of triumph over tragedy, Wise Little One is interlaced with the knowledge Jana learned on her path of discovery – eventually training and working with prominent thought leaders Dr Deepak Chopra, Dr Brian Weiss and Debbie Ford. Ultimately, she honors and listens to her Wise Little One and, at long last, is guided to her beloved in the most auspicious way. In the end, readers discover that we are all here in Earth school to learn how to heal from our pasts, extract lessons from our traumas, and to value and fall in love with ourselves.
Listen as we talk about
Healing the inner child wounds we carry.
Taking control of our lives and letting go of the childhood traumas that hold us back.
Steps we all need to take to recover from our wounds

What I Wish My Mother Taught Me about Education with Danielle Shelton
I have the great pleasure of chatting wiht Danielle Shelton about all things education and raising a fearless daughter. Danielle is a proud graduate of Florida A&M University and National University holding both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Arts degree in English. As an avid reader of literature, she took pride in pushing her students to read and dissect complex texts. For her, Literature is more than just words. Her aim is to get students motivated about reading and exploring words beyond the surface. Over the years, her students affectionately called her the Literary Ninja saying her approach is silent and swift. As an educator, she inspired her students to reach new heights and to dream big dreams. After the pandemic, she left the classroom and her nine-teen year teaching career to pursue her dreams of becoming a Life Coach and Motivational Speaker. Danielle has coined the term “Destination Coach” because she knows how to move people from one area in their life to a new destination. Danielle’s Podcast “Tips and Tricks Podcast with Destination Coach Danielle Shelton” has ranked with some of the best Podcasts to date. Not only does she tackle tough issues with heart, she also saves her audience time by adopting a mini-pod podcasting format. Let’s face it, no one has more than thirty minutes to listen to a Podcast. As an Educational Consultant, she shows educators and students that learning about literature can be fun. As a writer, she explores complex relationships and writes to get her readers lost in the moment. As a mommy manager, she guided her daughter, Zoe through publishing her first book at 6 years old. Zoe is now one of the youngest authors in the Broward County area. Following in the footsteps of her fearless daughter, Danielle is also a published author, with several writings in the works and multiple LinkedIn publications as well as two published books on Amazon: An Unfinished Collection of Works from the Busy Mind of a Writer and Navigating Grief: 30 Day Grief and Reflection Journal Life had granted her ups, downs, losses and triumphs. How to Teach Your Kids Effective Communication: The Magic of Communication with Anna Scoby
In this episode, I chat with Anna Scoby, and I am a Communication Coach specializing in taking intimidating factors out of public speaking. Anna is the creator of Project Be You, an educational non-profit dedicated to youth. The project was created with one goal to instill confidence in my students through teaching them soft skills necessary for future success. I have been working with children for over seven years now and have developed several unique programs to teach soft skills, including communication skills, to kids of all ages. Project Be You was created as a project-based focusing on positive association. Years of working with youth provide insights into their development and needs.
Teaching kids the magic of communication and the power of words can open up so many opportunities. If they know how to communicate, they can communicate well with each other, collaborate, and create and advocate for themselves effectively.
It’s important for kids to have good communication skills at a young age because communication is like magic. With one word you can fall in love, you can start a war, you can build someone up or break them down.

Raising a Daughter from a Father's Perspective-Trevor Gabbidon

Men and Vulnerability: The effect of societal norms on the mental health of men.
Men are often told to be strong, suck it up, and not show emotions. From a young age, society teaches most boys that being vulnerable isn't what a man should do, and most of them grow up believing that a man should not be vulnerable. I was struck by the fact that all of the mass shootings we have had in the United States were by men. To address my curiosity about the mass shootings, I invited Raymond Chukwuma, a Licensed Counselor, to discuss how societal norms affect men. We also discuss what parents can do to change the message boys receive to help them communicate their feelings much easier and show vulnerability. In this episode, Raymond and I discuss
1. What his mother taught him
2. How societal norms shape the brain of a young man
3. Creating a safe space for men to express themselves freely.
