"The Gospel has the Answers" - Chayone De Souza Figueroa
"The Gospel has the Answers" - Chayone De Souza Figueroa
Chayone tells how she referred HERSELF to the missionaries after learning about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints through Family Search and the Book of Mormon, that being courageous in her discipleship is more difficult at work as she tries to not fall back into habits she got rid of when she became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ. She describes how the opportunity to do work for the dead in the temple is what makes her SO excited about the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and that she could never leave.

"I Could Not Leave Christ" - Raisa Rock
"I Could Not Leave Christ" - Raisa Rock
"It doesn't shatter my testimony [when God gives us changes in the Church.] I feel grateful that God feels like He can trust us enough now that He can give us different guidance and direction."
Raisa talks about following a small thought to reach out to her mom's old friend, and how that lead them to move to Texas, how moving to Mexico in high school gave her an opportunity to stand up for the Gospel of Jesus Christ and solidify her testimony, and that continuing revelation from a prophet of God and seeing her mom made whole again after the Resurrection are what excites her about this Gospel.

"It Changed the History of My Family" - Thalia Ulibarri
"[After my mother's death] I came home, and I had to go to church by myself with my kids every week, and I thought, 'I just don't think I can do it. It's just too daunting.' I just told Heavenly Father, 'I can't do this by myself. You're going to have to help me.'"
Thalia has experienced the heart-wrenching deaths of her mother and grandmother from cancer, and she shares her maturing process between those times, and how promptings from God helped her do what she needed to do, even when it was difficult. She shares about coming home after her mother's death, and that the grief and the "shutting down" made it very difficult to feel the spirit. She loves the scriptures and gives glory to God for how this Gospel has changed her life. Listen to the episode to hear how Jesus came through for her at her weakest moment.

"I'm Looking for a Place I Can Be Forever" - interview with Priscilla Davis

She tells about her conversion from Catholisism and how knowing she had a Heavenly Father changed her prayers. Her "strength scripture" is Mosiah 15:14-16, and she expounds on how we can "publish peace."

"These Truths are Familiar to Me" - with Madison Peery
"Jesus isn't worried about messy or dirty situations. He knows the process of molding us will be messy and dirty."
"This is what it feels like to be in the hands of an Artist who knows what He's doing."
Madison explains how a prompting in 2019 to write about Jesus while reading the standard works stabilized her during the year 2020, that she has learned that questions are an invitation from God to step out of fear and doubt and into knowing Him better and into a different kind of relationship with Him, and that her word for this year, "molded," helped her understand how Christ works with us in shaping us, Jeremiah 18:6 "Just as the clay is in the potter's hands, so are you in my hands."

Every day we have with our loved ones is a gift."
Dennis talks about how he learned to listen to the Spirit through saying "no" to an adoption opportunity he and his wife wanted so badly, and that finding out their one-year old baby they had prayed for had an aggressive cancer of the kidney, and that his love of the gospel is sparked by the fact that "even the least saint" can know all things, as soon as they are able to bear it."

Jorge tells us that he believes it takes courage to admit when he was wrong about some of his beliefs in the gospel, how having friends of different faiths has helped him become more comfortable talking about his own faith, and how discovering the inherent contradictions or "tensions" in the gospel excites him.
"Living the gospel makes me happy. It brings me a lot of joy... Especially when I'm trying to do my best... there's this confidence in knowing that you're on the path that God wants you to be on. There's a certain peace that comes from knowing the Lord's promises will be fulfilled."

"I Found Light through my Broken Pieces" - interview with Kim Frandsen
How can we push past feeling inadequate uncertain to follow through on promptings? When has a dark time actually transformed you through Christ? When have you seen miracles and felt God's love in ways outside of the situation you were hoping would be resolved?
Kim relates how a prompting to serve her ministering sister lead her to decide to be brave and push past feeling insignificant, how four years of post partum depression and Christ's grace helped her rebuild with her broken pieces, and how 2 Nephi 27:23 fills us with so much hope to know the God we worship is a God of miracles, and we should expect them. She talks about dealing with trigeminal neuralgia and how that has pushed her to see miracles that are outside of healing, even when she would pray and feel no relief of her symptoms or situation.

"I Choose the Burdens of Belief" - an interview with Bridger Coburn
How do you change a faith crisis into a faith opportunity? Is it worth standing up for what you believe in on social media? What evidence can YOU see that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is Christ's Church?
Bridger stands up for the Church of Jesus Christ by posting positive content on TikTok, explains the pivotal moment in his faith crisis where he considered all the "burdens of belief and unbelief," and that God continues to consecrate his decision to believe. He believes that this church, as restored by Joseph Smith, is the best evidence for a life after this and gives the most hope for who we can become.

"I Made Real Covenants in a Real Temple to a Real God with Real Authority" - an interview with Katie Stevenson (2021)
"I Made Real Covenants in a Real Temple to a Real God with Real Authority" - an interview with Katie Stevenson (2021)
"It's that realness that also powers the covenants I've made, and I can't go against them. And so I must stay, and I must be committed, and I must share this with other people, because I feel that it's real... and it produced things that I could not have produced on my own. That must have come from God."
Do we see our opportunities to be like Christ? Does the Sacrament anchor you each week? How to you acknowledge that the covenants you've made with God are real and binding?
Katie relates her experience being a lawyer and an advocate for people who are despised and looked down upon and what that teaches her about Christ, how repentance and the sacrament are anchors in her life, and that God will lead us along if we are meek and have trust in our Savior.

"I Love Jesus Christ"- interview with Kate Guy
"I Love Jesus Christ"- interview with Kate Guy
What happens when you take on a calling you don't feel capable of doing? How have you ACTED recently, instead of being acted UPON? How does being disciplined elevate your life?
Kate relates how serving in a branch as a young child helped mature her spiritually, that 2 Nephi 2:14 shows us that there are two types of creations in the world, things to act, and things to be acted upon, and we have AGENCY, to make choices and go on our path. She also loves the Plan of Salvation we have in this gospel, and living prophets, and that being a disciple means making choices now that help us invest in our futures.

Frasier gives us a glimpse into the courage it takes to be an early returned missionary, why he feels he needs to be a voice for those missionaries, and that he has faith that the commandments we receive from God are for our good, even when we don't understand the "why" behind them.

"I Can't Say it Isn't True" - interview with Lethicia Caravello (2020)
"Even if I don't like certain things, that cannot override what I DO know is true. Just because I don't understand something else, doesn't mean what I know is true becomes all of a sudden not true."
Lethicia describes finding patience and hope after an injury that put her harp-playing career on hold, her belief in the Atonement of Jesus Christ and the power to change, and why the gospel of Jesus Christ is "comforting, but not comfortable" really resonates with her.

Becca talks about how she's had some big questions through the last few years, and how her courage helped her to stay and keep showing up for herself and for her family, how having a stillborn daughter has given her family a reason to desperately cling to the doctrine of resurrection and the hope that is in Christ, and that the one thing she keeps coming back to is reminding her children to always look to Christ as their Savior, Healer, and Master, no matter what they are going through.

"Because it Works" - interview with Brad Wood (2020)
"Reading the Bible or the Book of Mormon... there is a treasure trove of information there that is totally worth looking into and studying. And it makes me curious... what else is there that I don't know? ... It reassures me that 'Hey this is working' when [life] is a little hard."
Brad gives us insight into being the one of two members out at school and facing animosity for his beliefs, feeling lonely and apathetic on the mission and a change of heart that helped him gain a testimony of a God who cares, and his gratitude for a God who lets us struggle, and teaches us to struggle.

START HERE!
START HERE!
Hello and welcome to the Why I Stay podcast!
My name is Lynzi Clyde and I'm on a mission to find out why YOU choose to stay in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints.
You'll see over the different episodes that the podcast has shifted in its purpose over time:
What started out as a way to bring my ward congregation together during the pandemic has transformed into something powerful and far-reaching.
With so many of our friends and family leaving the church of Jesus Christ, it can be hard for us and honestly, it's also really hard for them. And as we love them dearly, respect them, and hang on to them, it's nice to know there ARE others out there who are still true to their covenants and pressing forward despite difficult questions and struggles.
So instead of engaging with the nay-sayers on social media, I invite you to turn around and share your faith with us!
This podcast is YOUR platform to proclaim, "Why do YOU choose to stay in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints?"
We're everyday disciples with extraordinary faith.
Want to share your testimony with us? Or know someone who you'd love to hear on the podcast? email Lynzi at WHY I STAY PODCAST @ GMAIL.COM
And whether you're feeling strong in your belief in the Savior, Jesus Christ, or feeling like you're hanging on by a thread,
I just want to say:
Thanks for staying with us.
