Modern Christians are stuck in the midst of a false dilemma, pretending to wrestle with the question of how God created the world.  On one side the evolutionists revive the ancient, atomist philosophy of the Epicureans in the name of "science". On the other, Christians who have been in the same school of philosophy as the evolutionists falsely interpret the Scriptures, reading into them ideas that St. Augustine warned would come.  In this talk, Mr. William C. In 2021, modern K-12 schools are obsolete.  Thoughts of starting new schools lead us back to the first questions of goals and objectives--but few are asking these questions.  Instead they are planning copy and re-brand obsolete schools that can't be maintained elsewhere.  In this talk, Mr. William C. In this talk, Mr. William C. Michael of the Classical Liberal Arts Academy discusses the role of Philosophy and Religion in Christian education.

Many are deceived by all of the artificial test scores, report cards and certificates of modern schools and imagine that studying to pass a test or earn a diploma is real study. These schools don't even reach the beginning of the classical Catholic curriculum, which is a different world. In this talk, Mr. Michael discusses how to study for mastery in the pursuit of Wisdom.

Modern schools talk about "critical thinking" and "public speaking" as if the ideas have never been considered before.  Fake "classical" schools pretend that "Logic" and "Rhetoric" classes designed for the modern school calendar give children what they need to think and communicate effectively.  Behind all this, the REAL arts of Reasoning and Rhetoric stand, largely untouched by modern students.  

In this talk, Mr. Michael discusses the real art of Reasoning and how interested students can learn it, studying Aristotle's "Organon" in the Classical Liberal Arts Academy.

Mr. William C. Michael is the founding headmaster of the Classical Liberal Arts Academy.  He graduated from Rutgers University with an honors degree in Classics & Ancient History and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.  Mr. Michael has worked in private education as a Classics teacher and administrator for over 20 years.  He is a Roman Catholic homeschooling father of ten children, and keeper of a quiet family farm in North Carolina.

Dorothy Sayers?  "Grammar" stage?  "Logic" stage?  "Rhetoric" stage?  Where did this stuff come from?  How did these ideas enter into CATHOLIC circles?      In 1991 (not 1995 as said in the video), Doug Wilson's book "Recovering the Lost Tools of Learning", called for a "return" to the "lost method" of education based on ideas found in a lecture by Dorothy Sayers called "The Lost Tools of Learning".   The Protestant movement, which spread among private schools and homeschools, was latched onto by Catholics who began spreading these ideas in Catholic circles.  Catholics received all of this with no questions, no requests for historical proof, and ran with it, starting homeschool programs and schools, publishing books and study programs.  They did so with no evidence that this was, in fact, true Catholic education and yet promoted it zealously among Catholics as "classical Catholic education"--a claim that is completely false.   In this video, Mr. Michael explains this history and calls Catholics to examine these ideas and, after doing so, actually return to true classical Catholic education.
