“Validation is For Parking” - the Audiobook (Podcast Style)
If you subscribe to TIWW (and I really hope you do), you’ve gotten used to a Wednesday release of our new episodes, and let me be upfront that nothing is changing about that…you’re in for another exceptional episode with another incredible guest on Wednesday of this week.
The reason I’m showing up on a Monday is because I’m going to read to you! More specifically, I’m going to read chapters and sections of my book, Validation is For Parking!
Each Monday (as long as it takes to get through the book), I’m going to bring a chapter to life! I’ll likely add a few curse words that my editor suggested I eliminate, I’ll add a few footnotes that didn’t make it in, and expand or add a story here or there, but mostly, I’m going to read Validation is For Parking in MY voice.
The goal is for all of us to head into our week WITH confidence!
You also get access to the 40+ page confidence-building workbook, that goes along with each episode and includes exercises, activities, quotes from the book PLUS a ton of self-reflection questions, tips, and ideas that you can put into practice in YOUR life.
So this week, we begin with the Introduction where I talk about my desperately needed wake-up call, my recovery from validation addiction, and the road to trusting myself again.
Because confidence is built from within. And validation? Well, that’s for parking.
To get your FREE Confidence Building workbook, click here. You will be added to our weekly communication for even more confidence-building tips! You can unsubscribe at any time… but we hope you’ll stay with us for the confidence-building journey.

166 / The Truth About Productivity with Amber De La Garza
Is productivity just about getting as much done as possible, or is it about getting the right things done in the best way?
HOW do you KNOW when you’re being productive? Maybe a better question is how do you differentiate from being productive vs. just being busy?
I’m excited to have Amber De La Garza on the show to help us answer these questions! Amber has more than a decade of experience helping small business owners maximize profits, reduce stress, and make time for what matters most by elevating their productivity! Amber is a sought-after coach, trainer, speaker, writer, host of the Productivity Straight Talk Podcast and creator of Leverage Lab® and she’s here to help us choose productivity over everything else.
Others will always have advice about what you should and shouldn’t be doing, what’s the most valuable use of your time, and where you should be spending it…
But there’s a difference between an expense and an investment. Like money, you can’t get time back once you’ve spent it. But also like money, you CAN invest your time into things with the greatest ROI, with the hope that it will appreciate and generate something even greater.
Being busy (but not productive) is an expensive way to live.
Being PRODUCTIVE is an investment in YOU, your future, and what matters most. YOU ARE THE ASSET.

(To take advantage of the FREE opportunity to give and get support on social media thru 12/31 click here: https://nicolekalil.com/apply and make sure to choose the “Likes Only” option)
It took me a long time to not only understand my introversion but to appreciate it. To stop trying to be like the extroverts around me and recognize that being an introvert not only was part of who I am, but it’s actually one of my superpowers.
And because somewhere around 40-50% of the population identify as introverts and close to 60% PREFER introversion, you either ARE an introvert too, or you love or work with one. So, we’re going to love on some introverts on our podcast today.
Andreea Sandu is a Certified High-Performance Coach and author of “The Introvert Who Could.” She currently splits her time between writing and helping creatives achieve their goals and considers herself a “visible introvert” on a mission to change how others perceive this personality type.
It’s my belief that the world needs more listeners than it does talkers, it needs more deep connection than surface level, it needs more thoughtful than it does charismatic, it needs more pauses than full steam ahead, it needs more 1:1 than social media posts, and it needs ALL of us, connected to our authentic selves, bringing our unique gifts to the world- REGARDLESS of whether you’re an introvert, extrovert, ambivert, omnivert or I-don’t-give-a-fuck-vert.
Know who you are, own who you’re not, and choose to embrace all of it.

164 / Self-Sabotage with Kamini Wood
In this episode we’re going to take a close look at the actions, inactions, distractions, decisions, indecision, negative self-talk,perfectionism, imposter syndrome, ALL the stuff – and ask, “WHY ARE WE DOING THIS TO OURSELVES”?
We’re going to get curious about all of our self-sabotaging ways.
Here to help us make sure we don’t turn into self-sabotage hoarders is Kamini Wood, who helps high-achievers heal their relationships with themselves by identifying limiting beliefs and reasons for stagnation, as well as overcoming self-doubt in order to live a fulfilling professional and personal life. She is the creator of AuthenticMe® and CEO of Live Joy Your Way - a coaching company serving those who have seen success through old-rooted, traditional metrics, reestablishing their relational self-awareness. A best-selling author, Kamini holds certifications in a large variety of modalities including high-performance coaching, conscious uncoupling, breath work, meditation, and belonging, just to name a few.
As always, you are the decider of what you do with your life – and I mean that in EVERY way. All I want is for you to make sure you’re not the one getting in the way of your own goals.
Here’s what I do know – self-sabotage will only ever be unpaid work and we’ve been doing it for far too long – sabotaging YOURSELF – is most certainly not woman’s work.

163 / Do You Believe in Love? with Arielle Ford
We’re going to talk about LOVE today, and I think it’s important that I tell you I might be a little jaded. Do I believe in love? YES. Do I want all of us to experience more of it? HELL YES. Do I think love is patient, two become one, it excuses and justifies everything, all decisions should be based on it, and that it needs to be romantic love that results in marriage in order to be considered real love? Absolutely not.
Given that I clearly have some energy about the topic, I’ve brought in an expert for all of our benefits.
Arielle Ford is a celebrated love and relationship expert, author, and speaker whose mission is to help people Find Love, Keep Love, and most importantly, Be Love. An award-winning author of eleven nonfiction books, including the international bestseller, THE SOULMATE SECRET: Manifest the Love of Your Life with The Law of Attraction, Arielle has been called “The Cupid of Consciousness” and “The Fairy Godmother of Love.” Her debut novel, The Love Thief, is a roller-coaster ride of love, betrayal, and unexpected transformation with a juicy revenge sub-plot and a surprise ending. And she’s here to talk with us about love.
I think we’ve received enough messaging about finding love, what love is and what it isn’t, so I’ll say this: Love YOURSELF, so you know what it feels like to love and be loved, and so that nobody can come along and offer you less and trick you into thinking it’s more.
Knowing what it is to BOTH love and be loved. That is woman’s work.

162 / Compensation Myths with Kelli Thompson
We’re going to talk about some of the big compensation myths that might be holding YOU back and share some alternative approaches.
I’ve invited Kelli Thompson back to the show, as she shares my passion for confidence, and is focused specifically on how confidence impacts your paycheck. She has coached and trained hundreds of women to trust themselves, lead, and create a career they love. She is the founder of the Clarity & Confidence Women’s Leadership Program, a Stevie Award winner for Women in Business—Coach of the Year, and the author of Closing The Confidence Gap: Boost Your Peace, Your Potential & Your Paycheck.
Determining your compensation almost ALWAYS involves more than just one perspective. It’s a discussion, a negotiation, an agreement.
But ADVOCATING for what you believe you’re worth just takes YOU.

161 / Survivorship and Breast Cancer with Virginia Carnesale
You likely know that October is breast cancer awareness month, and I’d be shocked if you don’t have someone you love, whether it’s YOU or a sister, mother, family member, friend, or colleague that has faced it.
And like so many things in life, unless you’ve experienced it personally, at a deep and intimate level, it’s hard to know what to do, where to turn, and how to get the help – both medical, and otherwise – you need. It’s also hard for loved ones to know what to do, what to say, and how to support.
I’ve invited Virginia Carnesale, breast cancer survivor and founder and CEO of Stage to join us today. In 2018, Virginia was diagnosed with breast cancer. Through her 18-month journey to wellness, she couldn’t shake the feeling that there was an opportunity to better serve other patients and their loved ones with the knowledge, sisterhood and style tips that can only come from those who have walked this road. So in 2022, with her very successful 20-year marketing and merchandising background with companies like Nike, Gap, and Saks Off 5th , she put her ideas into practice and launched Shopstage.co, a resource, support system, shopping and wellness destination to see women all the way from breast cancer prevention to deep inside her experience, with respect for, and recognition of, this uniquely personal journey.
Prioritize your health above your busyness, get your mammograms, encourage the women you love to get theirs, support the research, volunteer, donate, do the walks, wear all the pink, and BE THERE for your people.
Most importantly, let’s make sure NO woman ever has to face breast cancer alone.

A truth teller and transformation instigator, she challenges us to step out of our comfort zones and embrace our full potential.

158 / The Benefit Of Hindsight
On this episode, we’re talking about the benefit of hindsight.
Because it’s what’s missing when you’re in a tough patch, feeling confused or in the dark, carrying something that feels too heavy for you to be carrying, unsure of your next steps, or have a heart that hurts.
You don’t YET know how this will work for good, how this will impact your life, how, when, or in what ways whatever struggle you’re in will have you grow, will shape you into someone better… but you get to trust that it will.
Because it always has.
I share some very real examples of what hindsight has taught me over the last year, as we hit the anniversary of Validation Is For Parking being released… but not just the highlights, the behind-the-scenes too.
Your hindsight is on the way. I just know it. And that hindsight may just become the foresight you need for what’s coming next.

157 / Values First with Dr. Laura Eigel
There are many reasons I love living life from a values first approach – first, it’s something I can connect to on a daily basis. It helps me make decisions, reminds me who I want to be and how I want to show up, provides clarity if someone or something is the right fit for me or vice versa, and I see my values as the roots from which confidence grows.
So on this episode of This Is Woman’s Work, we’re going to get YOU connected to YOUR values!
Laura Eigel, founder of The Catch Group, a leadership coaching and consulting firm accelerating women into the C-suite, author of Values First: How Knowing Your Core Beliefs Can Get You the Life and Career You Want, and the host of the “You Belong in the C-Suite” podcast, joins me. Known for her direct feedback and passion for living a life guided by her values, she has been an HR executive at Fortune 50 companies, joined the C-suite as a Chief Learning Officer, and now coaches high-achieving women to build fulfilling lives inside and outside the boardroom.
When you know and operate from your values, you build trust. With yourself, and with others.
You know what to expect. And so do other people.
I’m not suggesting it’s always easy to stick to your values, but the more you practice the deeper those values go, the more you embody them, and the clearer you get on WHO YOU ARE, and who you’re not.
What do YOU value? And how are you living those values?

156 / Cell Care with Dr. Monisha Bhanote
Our topic today is CELL CARE which is a different but supporting approach to self-care. And sure, I know a few things about self-care, lifestyle rituals, and intentional living, but don’t have the first sweet clue about CELL care. I’m excited to learn and hope you are too!
Dr. Monisha Bhanote, combines ancient wisdom with mind-body science to naturally bio-hack the human body through her expertise as a cytopathologist, functional culinary medicine specialist, and integrative medicine doctor. Known as the Wellbeing Doctor, Dr. Bhanote has diagnosed over one million cancer cases, provides health programs at DrBhanote.com, and leads wellness workshops and retreats worldwide. She serves on several clinical advisory boards and is a go-to health and wellness expert for Healthline, Psych Central, and Medical News Today.
As Dr. Bhanote shares, “Your wellbeing is non-negotiable.”
The reality is if you don’t make time for your wellness, you’ll end up needing to make time for your illness. Your health is THAT important.
And the ultimate form of self-care is becoming and being the healthiest version of YOU, you can be.
Take care of yourself, my friend.

155 / Executive Motherhood with Ashley Quinto Powell
Whether you’re a full-time Mom where your job is inside the home, or a Mom who has an additional full or part time job outside the home, YOU HAVE A JOB. That job has REAL value. And we should start thinking about it like that.
(Side note: I also believe that being a Dad is a job and more people should treat it as such, and dad expectations should be as high as mom expectations, but we’re talking about Moms here today.)
I’ve invited Ashley Quinto Powell to join me to talk about this concept of Mom as a career, and as an employer. Ashley is a serial entrepreneur, a national speaker, and the author of Executive Motherhood: The Art of Having It All Without Doing It All. As the Founder of the Virtual Assistant Agency, myVA Rocks, she knows a thing or two about running a business, and she’s spoken about motherhood for TEDx. Ashley provides a different perspective on Motherhood by redefining “mom,” as a mother and as an employer.
Whether you’re a “yummy mummy” (you know those super zen yogi moms that wouldn’t dream of losing their cool and individually squeeze the milk of organic almonds while sculpting their abs, soothing kids' feelings and saving the whales), a holding on by the seat of your pants
Mom, or any other type of Mom, YOU HAVE VALUE!!
Recognizing, appreciating, and acknowledging that value isn’t just Woman’s Work. It’s society’s work.
It’s about time we see it for what it is: Women. Doing. Invaluable. Work.

154 / Affirmation Roulette with Peloton’s Kirsten Ferguson
We’re going to do something a little different on this episode, and play affirmation roulette with none other than Kirsten Ferguson.
Because, let's be real. What we say to ourselves, about ourselves MATTERS. We all spend the bulk of our time, the majority of our LIVES, inside our own mind… we really ought to make it a nice place to be.
After seven years of working with the NFL, Kirsten made the decision to shift her focus to family. Her journey to motherhood was not easy, and fitness helped Kirsten strengthen her body and soul during difficult times. She is now the proud mother of two beautiful daughters and uses her life experiences to fuel her deeply inspiring workouts. She shares affirmations while you move… ones that speak directly to your soul and feel like they were meant just for you, and come at exactly the right time. You can find her on the Peloton Tread and you can count on epic hip hop and R&B playlists, a truly great workout, AND affirmations that remind you who you are and what actually matters.
It’s time you affirm yourself! Because if you don’t affirm YOU and your choices, who will?

153 / Eating Your Feelings with Jessica Procini
Jessica has this to say about emotional eating: “Overeating is a REJECTION of Self. It is a moment of self-betrayal. In order to truly heal your relationship with food, you must address the fundamental disloyalty towards yourself.”
UGH. I WISH I would have heard THAT earlier in my life. While I don’t fall into the emotional eating trap as often as I used to, it’s something I still need to be mindful of, especially when I’m stressed, hurt or angry. Because loyalty to myself is at the top of my priority list… I hope it’s on yours too.
Jessica Procini, is the founder of Escape From Emotional Eating®, and has been helping women heal the roots of their emotional eating so they can embody their full potential. She created this unique process grounded in a decade of research, a background in the Psychology of Eating, Transformational Coaching methods, and her own personal emotional eating journey, so her clients can learn to use food as a nourishing asset rather than a self-destructive way to cope, soothe and escape their busy, stressful lives.
Before we can heal our relationship with food and eating, or whatever it is that YOU do that fills a void or masks a feeling temporarily but ultimately has you feeling WORSE about yourself, we must heal ourselves.
And healing ourselves is an ongoing, never ending, journey. No one else can do it for you. Nothing else will heal you, except you.

152 / The Necessity Of Choice with Jacqueline Ayers
Women’s right to choose has been in question throughout history… getting to choose who and if you marry, what you wear, what’s appropriate and not, whether or not you can work, what you can do for a living, the right to open your own bank account, to vote, to consent, and if and when you give birth.
I am very aware I’m going to piss some people off, and this is too big, too important for me to worry about that. We’re going to talk about the necessity of women’s right to CHOOSE.
I’ve invited Jacqueline AIyers, senior vice president of policy, organizing, and campaigns at Planned Parenthood Federation of America to join us. She leads the strategic direction of the federation’s legislative affairs, global advocacy, and federal and state policy teams. Previously, she has served as legislative director for the National Urban League, was a legislative aide in the U.S. House of Representatives covering health, education, and judiciary issues, and is licensed to practice law in the state of Indiana. All that to say this: we’re covering this topic with someone who can bring knowledge, experience, and real information to the table.
CHOICE.
If that’s not the hill we’re willing to die on, I don’t know what is.
And I don’t care how you do it, I just care that you stand for it. Not just YOUR choices, or the choices you like, but the right for each woman, for each person to have agency and ownership of the one thing we should always have COMPLETE control over: our bodies.

151 / Ditching Your Inner “Good Girl” with Renee Bauer
On this episode of TIWW, we’re going to talk about ditching your inner “good girl” as well as some other uncomfortable truths that are holding us back from truly winning in life.
Here to help us do that is Renee Bauer, Founder and Managing Attorney of “Happy Even After” Family Law, an international speaker, and author of 5 books, including her new book that’s about to be released and is already a bestseller “She Who Wins” (described as an ANTI-rule book, which you know I love). She hosts the She Who Wins podcast as well as the She Who Wins Annual Summit, a live event created to inspire, motivate and challenge women to move forward bravely in their personal and business lives. Clearly, Renee is committed to getting more women to WIN, and I’m here for it.
Renee says this: There is a fierce woman fighting to get out.
She is YOU.
For every woman who was told to smile, to quiet down, and to shrink themselves into the smallest version of themselves. For every woman who is struggling to make a life-altering decision or wondering “what’s next”. For every woman who thinks this is as good as it gets. For every woman who has felt like there has to be more. For every woman who feels like she doesn’t have a right to complain or who feels selfish for even questioning her happiness.
There’s a good girl within who is READY to become that fierce woman who’s fighting to get out.

149 / Your Communication Patterns with Cassandra LeClair
Most of us have not only NOT been taught the skills to communicate well, we’ve been taught the opposite. We’ve probably observed more examples of INeffective communication than anything. Think about it for a second… were your parents good examples of this? Your first love? Your first boss? I’m gonna take a stab in the dark, and guess the answer for most of us is a hard NO.
I am Nicole Kalil, and you can put this episode of TIWW under the category of “shit we should have learned, but didn’t and now it’s wreaking havoc in our lives”. Today, we’re going to develop the skill of COMMUNICATION… especially communicating the hard stuff.
Here to support our learning is Dr. Cassandra LeClair, communication consultant, author of Being Whole, and motivational speaker, who is an expert on communicating in relationships and improving connections. Her mission is to educate people on how to understand their communication patterns in order to build effective and healthy communication that enhances their professional and personal relationships.
As is true with ALL learning, we learn best through experience, so I don’t want this to be a half an hour where you got some good theoretical tips, I want you to PRACTICE what you’ve learned.
Because practice makes progress. And since very few of us were taught effective communication along the way, we’ve got lots of practicing to do.

148 / Reclaim OWNERSHIP Over Your Own Health with Andrea Nakayama
You know how I feel about one-size-fits-all solutions to anything, and the health and wellness industry is no exception.
So when we cover topics like todays, I’m always careful to bring people on who will share what they’ve learned, what they know to be true, their expertise BUT ALSO say that YOU need to figure out what’s right, best, and true for you. Said another way, they offer solutions, just not the one-size fits all kind.
With that in mind, let me introduce you to our guest. Andrea Nakayama is a Functional Medicine Nutritionist, educator, and Host of the 15-Minute Matrix Podcast, where she draws on systems biology, mental models, root cause methodology and the therapeutic partnership to offer long-awaited solutions for the rapidly growing chronic illness epidemic. Andrea is leading a revolution in which we reclaim OWNERSHIP over our own health.
Here’s all I know for sure: your body is yours, you only get one, and you’re the only one who has to, who gets to, take care of it.
There are many ways we can abandon ourselves, but hating our bodies so much that we don’t even listen to them anymore has got to be pretty high up on the list.
Prioritizing our health and longevity is the most beautiful thing we can do.

147 / People-Pleasing & Being “Needy” with Mara Glatzel
When under stress, overwhelmed, or feeling burnt out, it is incredible how quickly many of us default back to perfectionism and people-pleasing and abandon ourselves.
On this episode of TIWW, we’re going to talk about how to advocate for YOUR needs… first to yourself and then to others. I’m joined by Mara Glatzel, author, intuitive coach, and host of the “Needy” podcast. Mara helps humans stop abandoning themselves and start reclaiming their humanity through embracing their needs.
Because you’re a human living a human experience, you have needs. Those needs don’t make you selfish, weak, or a burden. It may have been awhile since you acknowledged them. Maybe you’ve been setting them aside for the sake of another. Maybe you’re scared they’ll never get met. Maybe someone told you you were wrong for wanting what you want.
The time has come for you to ask for what you need.
And then expect it, first from yourself and then from others.
Then advocate for it.
Because you’ve always been worth it.

146 / The Happiness Equation with Zenica Chatman
I know being happy every minute of every day isn’t an option, but I do wish I saw more women experiencing it regularly. I wish women allowed themselves to choose happiness FAR more frequently without feeling guilty or selfish.
So let’s talk about how we might do that.
Joining me is Zenica Chatman, who after experiencing workplace trauma, went on a path to redefine her own self-worth and what it means to be happy and successful. Now as a certified coach, she’s helped many other women do the same.
What does it mean to be happy, FOR YOU?
Are you choosing it? Every day?
Because happiness is an available option far more often than we think. And you deserve to choose happiness.

145 / How To Talk To Your Enemies with Alicia Dunams
I admire SO MUCH when I see people deal with difficult personalities, big egos, or people who’ve done major harm and they somehow manage to stay cool, calm, and collected. Being able to have a productive conversation with someone who makes your blood boil is a true superpower.
Which is why I’ve invited Alicia Dunams, speaker, coach, certified mediator, peacemaker and author of the book, How to Talk to Your Enemies to the show. She shares specific words, phrases, and approaches to start dialogues off on the right foot toward mutual understanding and healing. Whether it’s expressing boundaries, handling political and moral differences, giving sincere apologies, responding to accusations of racism or sexism - Alicia provides the tools to have even the most bitter enemies experience compassion and catharsis.
The skill of communicating effectively with people we disagree with is desperately needed.
Rage, cursing, and walking away have their place, but listening, apologizing, empathy, curiosity, understanding, healing, and peacemaking are necessary in todays climate.
Who better to lead the way than us? WOMEN have long understood the POWER and STRENGTH required to do any one of those things… listening isn’t the easy way out, ignoring is. Empathy isn’t weak, righteousness and revenge are.
The irony is all the things they’ve been calling soft skills are the hardest ones. It’s time to do woman’s work.

144 / Jay & Nicole Kalil on Partnership, With Guest Host Lynn Casaletto
On this very special episode, guest host Lynn Casaletto takes over the mic and not only interviews Nicole, but also her partner in life, Jay Kalil!
They talk about everything from how they make their marriage work (and some things they do to get back on track when it’s not working), pet peeves, parenting, planning, and more! Questions were collected from Nicole’s community, and Lynn dished them out… listen in to hear their responses and perspectives.
Partnership can be hard, especially when two career-focused, busy, goal-oriented people come together… and partnership can also be the thing that makes it all better, easier, and fun! We know Nicole would never want to send the message that anything in her life is perfect, and this episode is not about offering marriage advice.
This is two partners sharing how they manage it all, and a glimpse behind the scenes to meet Nicole’s favorite person on the planet, Jay, and hear from his perspective how he supports Woman’s Work.
Here’s access to our Family Planning Agenda as well as the TIWW podcast episode #003 Family Planning where Nicole breaks it down step by step.

143 / The Real Reason You Have Nothing to Wear with Ellie Steinbrink
I wonder if we added up ALL the minutes we’ve wasted standing in front of our closets thinking “I have nothing to wear” and all the time we’ve spent trying on 17 different outfits (only to walk out wearing the one we hate the least), how much time we’d have? Enough to learn a new language? An extra 2 weeks vacation every year?
So my friends, let's give you back the greatest commodities you have: your TIME and your sanity. I’ve invited Ellie Steinbrink, Expert Stylist, Personal Brand Coach, and owner of Style Decoded, to join us today. She’s on a mission to help women show up with more authenticity and feel 100% confident in their own skin every day. Styling is her passion, (yes, she does do work virtually) and she loves teaching women how to define and own their unique personal brand through style.
I believe that confidence is when you have firm and bold trust in yourself. And while I don’t believe your clothes will ever bring you confidence, I do believe it’s easier to trust yourself when you feel great, feel comfortable, and feel like YOU.
At the end of the day, who you’re BEING in the world is infinitely more interesting, and confidence is significantly more captivating than whatever it is that you’re wearing…remember that when you’re standing in your closet.

142 / Make Your Comeback Stronger Than Your Setback with Julia Wolfendale
I’ve been knocked down more times than I care to count, and the only thing I can tell you with any kind of certainty is that I’ve gotten UP at least one more time than I’ve been knocked down.
I believe that’s true for you too. Because you’re here.
On this episode of TIWW we’re going to talk about getting BACK into action after a setback. Because I know TWO THINGS FOR SURE, from every conversation I’ve had and every woman I’ve interacted with (even the ones with all the followers, even the bestsellers, and the stage walkers, and all the women we think have it all figured out), and those two things are: first, EVERYONE faces setbacks and second, EVERYONE struggles with them.
Joining me is Julia Wolfendale, Executive Coach, Author of Five Ways to Focus, and Founder and Director of On The Up Consulting. She is qualified to a masters level in leadership and has trained and coached hundreds of CEOs, directors, and senior managers across a variety of industries. Now specializing in strengths-based coaching, she inspires people to get back into action on even their toughest days.
Setbacks are what happen to you. Comebacks are what you make happen.
Pick yourself up.
Dust yourself off.
Get back into action… head high, eyes forward, deep breath, trust in self.
Because it’s COMEBACKS, not setbacks, that a well-lived life is made of.

141 / How Regular Women Take Risks with Liz Deacle
Our topic is about taking risks, but I didn’t want to cover it with one of those “mer-women” (like mermaids, but with independence) who has done it all, unafraid, and made it look effortless. I wanted to talk about it with someone who I know would be REAL.
Real women taking real risks, big and small, with REAL feelings about it.
So, without further delay, let me introduce my new friend Liz Deacle. Liz, is a British expat currently living in New Zealand with her family. Liz and her husband embarked on a year-long backpacking adventure with their teenagers on a budget of just $70 a day. This experience inspired Liz to start a travel blog where she discovered her hidden talent for storytelling and developed a mastery for using Pinterest to build a loyal audience.
Today, Liz and Brian spend long periods traveling, creating content for their two popular websites and running a membership site that helps other people who want to move to New Zealand. Their YouTube channel, “It’s a Drama,” has over a million views, and their comedy podcast also called It’s a Drama, has hundreds of thousands of downloads. She has just published her first book, The Travel Bog Diaries.
With risk there comes failure, but failure isn’t permanent. Only regret is. And with risk there also comes success, confidence, and the life you really want. Isn’t that worth the risk?
Start small, but start.

140 / Succeed At Work & Life with Sohee Jun
I value the intention behind Work/Life Balance, which is that work isn’t supposed to consume our entire lives. But the “balance” part is confusing for many, and it always hits me funny that it implies that we leave our lives when we go to work. As someone who loves their career, I’d say my work is very much a part of my LIFE.
I’ve invited our guest, Dr. Sohee Jun, to join me to talk about how to succeed, as women, at LIFE, which of course, includes our work. As a top leadership coach, keynote speaker, leadership development expert and Amazon best-selling author, Dr.Jun works with emerging leaders and executives to unleash their untapped power. She worked over 20 years in the corporate world and is here today to talk about how we can build trust with and for ourselves so we create the Work/Life we truly want.
Maybe it’s less about balance and more about CHOICE. Knowing there’s power in our NO, value in our YES, and impact in our “not nows” or “not yets”. Maybe you already know the answer of how to succeed at work and in your life… you just need to be brave enough to listen.
All I know for certain is, this is the life you get to live and it's my greatest desire that you live it with intention.

139 / Well-Rested with Jolene Hart
Today we’re going to talk about the ONE thing, the one piece of advice, that I might be able to
universally get behind (you know how I hate one-size-fits all solutions).
You’re probably thinking we’re going to talk about confidence. Not a bad guess, because I do believe we could ALL benefit from more of it, but I don’t think anyone can give a one size fits all solution to it, including me.
Our topic today is being WELL-RESTED. Every Day.
Jolene Hart is a health coach certified by the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and founder of the
pioneering beauty coaching practice Beauty Is Wellness. She is a former magazine beauty editor and the bestselling author of six wellness books, including Eat Pretty, Ignite Your Light, and her most recently released Well-Rested Every Day. At the heart of Jolene’s work is her desire to empower people with the ability to shape their lifelong health with simple tools and habits, from stress resilience and hormones to diet, digestion, and personal care products, to help her clients look and feel their best from the inside.
In the words of Jolene, “rest is an intuitive, brave, and even radical act for women—one that adds value and depth to our lives.” It’s time to get some rest, my friends.

138 / Conflict & Tension with Hesha Abrams
How can we BOTH resolve conflict AND defuse tension? That’s the million dollar question we’re
addressing on this episode.
And since I don’t have the million dollar answer, I’m joined by Hesha Abrams,
internationally acclaimed master attorney mediator, who has the unique talent of being able to manage big egos and strong personalities, and a keen ability to create synergy amongst the most diverse personality types, driving them toward agreement.
Holy shit, now THAT’s a superpower.
Hesha has resolved thousands of cases, both large (we’re talking billions in settlements) and small, in every conceivable area, during her career, including mediating the fight over the secret recipe for Pepsi. She developed Holding the Calm, an insightful, practical, and easy to use tool kit, forged in the trenches of resolving human conflict, that identifies the secrets to know how to approach situations to prevent explosions, disarm conflicts, settle cases, and reduce drama. And she’s going to share some of those secrets.
Here’s what I know… when a pink spotted elephant walks in the room, you need to notice it. If it starts breathing down your neck, you need to do something about it. Because if you don’t, it’s going to sit on you and it’s MUCH harder to resolve conflict when you can’t breathe.
Not letting pink spotted elephants knock the wind out of you? Well that’s just woman’s work.

137 / Ampliship (Mean Girls Part 2) with Caroline Adams Miller
If you’re tuning into this episode of This Is Woman’s Work, I’m guessing it’s EITHER because you listened to last week and CAN’T WAIT to hear the rest of this amazing conversation, or you happened to stumble upon our show. If that’s the case, I’d like to encourage you to go back to last week's episode, because this is Part 2 of a two-part episode on the patterns, approaches, and ways that women ARE NOT supporting women.
And let me tell you, this conversation goes down as one of my all time favorites in the 3.5 years I’ve been hosting this show. Caroline Adams Miller brings a scientific, research-backed, and data led approach to the important topics we’re covering.
The time has come for ampliship - let’s SHARE the stories of women doing amazing things. Collaborate with other women to promote and recognize each other. GO PUBLIC with your support. Make sure there are witnesses as you promote them, reference their work, and celebrate their successes.
Become a MASTER of supporting other women. Let’s make ampliship both the word and the action of the year. That is WOMAN’S work.

136 / Mean Girls with Caroline Adams Miller
I often challenge men to be open, curious, to truly LISTEN, to not be so defensive… and now it’s our turn. Friends, buckle up, because we’re going full throttle on the bullshit that WOMEN do.
The second I met Caroline Adams Miller, I just KNEW she needed to be our guest for this conversation. Caroline is a well-respected expert, whose scientific approach to change fosters lasting success in organizations and individuals. She has a Masters of Applied Positive Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania and graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University. The author of eight books, including Getting Grit, Creating Your Best Life, and My Name is Caroline, Caroline’s work has been featured worldwide and she’s here today to help me, not just to have the discussion, but to provide that scientific, research-backed data so we’re not just talking “in theory” about the things that aren’t working for us, but providing concrete evidence of it.
Are you just a grown up Mean Girl? Are you going silent on the women in your life? What might you be doing that’s comfortable and convenient for you, but isn’t in support of other women?
It’s time for us to be open and curious. It’s time for us to check ourselves.
And, because this conversation is so good and so necessary, we’ve made it a two-part episode. Meet us here next week for Part 2 of this conversation.

135 / F*@% One Size Fits All Success Principles
What are some of the popular approaches to success that you’re feeling pressured to do, but just don’t feel right to you?
Success for me isn’t about rigidity, adding more shit to my plate, or even mental toughness and these one size fits all approaches is just another thing that’s saying you must be perfect (no cheats, no misses, no exceptions), and that the way to become confident and all the things you want is thru achievement.
I call bullshit. And on today's episode I walk through some examples of these popular approaches and why I think they do more harm than good.
What other success principles drive you nuts? What other maybe more masculine approaches to business aren’t serving you? What one-size-fits all approaches are being shoved down your throat?
TRUST yourself.
And while confidence is my passion, I hope I never send the message that there’s only one way to achieve it or that I EVER would make you feel bad or less than if my message doesn’t speak to you or feel right for you.

134 / Woman’s Work In Shifting Seasons with Elizabeth Presta
What season are you in? And do you embrace your changing seasons, recognize them for their unique offerings, and celebrate and appreciate their differences and their beauty? Or do you resist them, like winter in New England? Do you feel annoyed, or want to quickly move past it, or run away if you can?
We’re here today to talk about Woman’s Work In Shifting Seasons. And I can’t think of a better person to have that conversation with than Elizabeth Presta, licensed birth doula who has traveled extensively to over 31 countries, immersing herself and learning cultural norms along the way. Liz is passionate about women’s healthcare and has a hugely popular podcast Morning Chava.
No matter what season you’re in, this too shall pass. The hard, yes, but also the good. Summer is just a season too, so make sure you don’t let it pass by without recognizing, appreciating, and enjoying it!
Like nature, and the seasons, YOU and your life are fucking MAGICAL.
Live it. Be true to YOU and the season you’re in… I can’t think of anything that defines woman’s work better than that.

133 / Making Friends As An Adult with Danielle McCombs
You might be wondering why we’re doing an episode on how to make new friends because it sounds like a topic for a younger audience, right? When we’re REALLY young, making friends just sort of happens. But we grow and evolve, and sometimes our friends don’t grow and evolve in the same direction at the same time… and we discover that some relationships that used to fuel us, now drain us.
On today’s episode of TIWW we’re going to talk about making friends. The truths, the challenges, and some strategies to help us.
I’ve asked Danielle McCombs to join me. Danielle is a Co-Active Training Institute Certified coach with her own Life Coaching practice, which she founded after a 20 year career in commercial real estate. She hosts the podcast “The Opposite of Small Talk,” with her friend Kristy Olinger where they explore topics about personal and professional development. She had reached out to me and suggested this topic and everything in my being screamed YES, we need to talk about this!
Ok friends, it’s time to go make some new friends! And make sure you love on the ones you already have who have seen you through many, or even just a few, seasons in your life.
Because I believe there’s no better thing to be, no greater success, no better achievement than being and having a great friend.

132 / 4 Steps To Setting Boundaries with Amy Worthy
Lets face it, we can ALL still get better at creating and communicating BOUNDARIES.
I mean, I train on this topic on occasion, I covered it briefly in my book, and I STILL find myself, on the regular, in situations where I didn’t hold to a boundary or didn’t communicate it in a way I feel good about, or in some cases, didn’t communicate my boundary at all… which leaves me feeling frustrated, resentful, disappointed, and exhausted.
I’ve asked Amy Worthy, High Performance Business Coach and Psychotherapist with 20 years of experience working with mindset, high performance and habit building, to join us today to cover this very important topic that we’ve covered before (Episode 72 if you’re looking for more on boundaries).
If you say no in a kind, responsible, or professional way, and someone gets upset, that doesn’t mean you should have said yes. You are not responsible for other people’s reactions, you can only be responsible for YOUR choices.
And if you say yes, even when you meant maybe or I’d rather not, then you need to own the resentment and frustration you feel and use it to fuel your next no, or not yet, or yes but with these expectations.
Yes and no are powerful words with extreme clarity. We should probably be using them with more power and more clarity.

131 / Maximize Your Success By Managing Your Ego with Christie Garcia
Today we’re going to talk about our ego (and for the record, we all have an ego), and how to manage our own as we work to become better humans.
I’m joined by Christie Garcia, a Leadership Coach, Speaker, Contributor to Forbes Coaches Council, and Founder of Mindful Choice Leadership Academy. One of Christie’s super-powers is helping her clients identify and manage their Ego in real time. Her clients build authentic confidence (which is my favorite kind) so they can communicate more effectively and maximize their impact within their professional teams and personal relationships.
Even though we use the word ego often to describe the dark side, the reality is there IS a healthy side. Our opportunity lies in understanding and managing it.
And at the end of the day, we all have ownership over our beliefs, actions, words, and decisions. I believe that there are lots of influences and contributing factors, but at the end of the day YOU get to be responsible.
In short, It’s ok to have an ego, your ego just shouldn’t have YOU.

130 / Can’t Get No Satisfaction with Dr. Julie Landry
We live in a time of abundance. We have more available to us today than ever before, we are more connected, there’s a plethora of options at our finger tips, AND YET, so many of us are unsatisfied.
And that paradox is hurting all of us, regardless of gender, but I think for women there’s a nuanced way it’s wreaking havoc on our lives… the more options we have, the more we feel we’re supposed to DO. And it’s fucking exhausting.
So let’s dive in and discuss, because I KNOW this is impacting me, and I imagine I’m not alone.
I’ve invited Dr. Julie Landry, board-certified clinical psychologist, former Army officer, and founder of a thriving concierge mental health practice to join us. Julie works with high-level executives, professional athletes, health care professionals, and is here to share tips and strategies that work.
Here’s a good place to start: Build and maintain the relationships that serve you, and then serve and share your gifts with others. Choose and practice gratitude. SLOW DOWN and be where your feet are. Do more of the things that light you up from the inside, and less of the things that don’t.

129 / 4 Truths of Radiant Change with Kristen Lisanti
Most people resist change, are afraid of it, or at least feel really uncomfortable with it.
But that doesn’t change the fact that CHANGE IS COMING. You can count on it.
It is for that very reason that I’ve invited Kristen Lisanti to join me today to talk about navigating change… and not just any old change, but what she calls RADIANT change. Kristen coaches leaders and their teams to drive transformation at scale, guiding them through her proven methodology to spark and sustain meaningful change. Kristen is trained and certified by the NeuroLeadership Institute, the Mindful Awareness Research Center at UCLA’s Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior, the Leadership Circle and the International Coaching Federation. In short, she knows what she’s talking about when it comes to change.
A loving reminder of the first truth: it’s INEVITABLE. No amount of avoiding, resisting, running, or fighting will change that. And progress, success, healthier relationships, and our deepest desires often live on the other side of change.

128 / How To Improve Accommodations For Employees With Disabilities with Jill Griffin
I stand for a world where we can show up as our authentic selves and have our differences be valued, appreciated and celebrated.
Being a woman is hard in a lot of ways, but there are many women who face extra equity and inclusion challenges in addition to their gender.
I’ve asked Jill Griffin to join me today to discuss how we, as leaders, can improve accommodations for people with disabilities. Jill was involved in an accident that led to head trauma, forcing her to rethink and reboot her life and growing career. She has been featured on the WorkLife podcast with Adam Grant, is a Speaker, Executive Coach, and is working with so many big brand names as an Invisible Disabilities Advocate.
Let’s be thoughtful, kind and inclusive. Let’s stand for everyone getting to live their truth. Let’s love and support one another not in spite of, but because of, all of our differences.

127 / Trauma with Jessi Beyer
This is a tough one because I’m so fully aware of how IMPORTANT, how
complex, and how necessary this topic is. And I truly hope I treat it with the care and respect it is due.
On this episode of TIWW we’re going to talk about Mental Health and Trauma. If this topic feels triggering or not supportive to you right now, then hit pause and join us next week.
I’ve asked Jessi Beyer, an international speaker and the #1 best-selling author of How To Heal:
A Practical Guide To Nine Integrative Therapies That Can Help Release Trauma, to join me. She has been featured in over 160 media outlets, holds a Masters in Critical Psychology and Human Services and, outside of her professional life, she is a K9 search and rescue handler with her dog, Phoebe.
If you’ve experienced trauma, ask for support. Find the help you need…
nobody can do the work for you, but there are people who can stand WITH you.
If you witness trauma, don’t turn away from it. Call it out if, and when, you can. Be OUTRAGED.
If someone honors you by sharing about their trauma, listen, hold space, BELIEVE those that trust you enough to tell you about it.

126 / The Parenting Map with Dr. Shefali
Have you ever wished there was an instruction manual that came with your child so you’d understand how they operate and what to do as their parent?
We’re here today to have a conversation about parenting… one that’s coming from a place of love and a desire that every mom I know has… how we can be the best mom to our littles. And because I can’t think of a better person to lead that conversation, I’ve invited Dr. Shefali to join me.
Acclaimed author of THREE NYT best-sellers, international speaker, clinical psychologist, and wisdom teacher, Dr. Shefali wrote the guide we’ve all been looking for… her new book, The Parenting Map, comes out February 28th and it gives us step by step solutions to create the ultimate parent-child relationship. My greatest takeaway is that doing that, starts with transforming OURSELVES.
I don’t have a lot of parenting advice outside of this… heal yourself so you can trust yourself. And get your hands on Dr. Shefali’s book!

ally. And since about 90% of our listeners are women, I’m talking mostly about WOMEN being allies women. More specifically, how we can be allies to Black women. Because, in my opinion, there isn’t a group of women who have the right to demand it more. And I’m so tired of constantly letting them down.
I’ve asked Aisha Suleiman to join me for this necessary conversation, as she’s an award-winning diversity and inclusion leader, entrepreneur, and keynote speaker. Her company, The Inclusive Culture, helps organizations build a sense of community by empowering their employee resource groups and encouraging allyship in the workplace. Recognized as an EMpower 100 Ethnic Minority Future Leaders (2020), Aisha has worked with renowned global brands like Amazon and IPG Mediabrands. In 2022, Aisha launched True White Allies – a ground-breaking film project that shares the stories of historical White anti-racists from as early as the 1700s to inspire increased allyship and action.
I have a strong belief that we can’t make any real, lasting progress as women, if ALL women aren’t considered, included, and advocated for.
Let’s be in action, big and small, public and private, proactively and reactively… in action, together.
Being an ally… now THAT is woman’s work.

124 / Mind, Body, Soul… and Confidence with Meg Burton Tudman
On this episode of This Is Woman’s Work we’re going to double down on the topic of confidence… and we’re going to do it from a different perspective, since you’ve already heard a lot about the topic from me.
Meg Burton Tudman is on a mission to support women in honoring their highest selves through coaching, writing and speaking. She does this by encouraging us to align our mind, body and soul, which she believes is directly tied to our confidence, by weaving mindset, meditation, energy work, and yoga into her coaching programs, wellness articles, workshops, and corporate events. And she’s here today to talk about our shared passion from HER perspective.
What would be possible if you lived a life, aligned, mind, body and soul? How would you feel?
If you didn’t let all the noise drown out your inner voice, what would it say? Would you listen?
I hope you do. Because whatever your inner knowing is telling you, I can assure you that it IS woman’s work.

123 / Women And Competition with Diann Wingert
On this episode we talk about Women & Competition: Envy, Jealousy and all the other Green-Eyed Monsters. And in the spirit of supporting, collaborating, acknowledging and celebrating the talent and gifts of other women, I’ve asked a woman I admire a great deal to join me!
Diann Wingert is a psychotherapist turned business strategist and coach, on a mission to help female solopreneurs with busy brains get focused, fired up and flame retardant. Host of The Driven Woman Entrepreneur Podcast, Diann does similar work with a similar audience, in similar ways as me…basically, I could see her as competition, but I don’t. I see her as inspiration, motivation, someone to collaborate with and leverage for support.
A loving reminder that gossiping, judging, comparing, or jealousy will ALWAYS say more about the person doing it than the person it’s being done to.
So here’s my call to action to all the women that are listening. First, stop being an asshole. Second, stop surrounding yourself with them. BOTH of those things are definitely woman’s work.

122 / What I Know So Far
This episode is a collection of all the things I know, so far. And believe me when I say I could fill hours upon hours of podcasts with the things I DON’T know (which is awesome!). Because the less I think I know, the more free and open I feel.
How about you? What do you know so far?
And why am I asking?
Well because, your answer is the answer. When I say this is woman’s work, it begs the question, what is this? But my goal was never to define it for you, only to create the space for you to ask yourself.
So what do you know so far? Whatever your answer is, do that. BE that. All of us together, living our truth… That is Woman’s Work.

121 / Glass Ceilings & Sticky Floors with Erica Rooney
Why do we call it a “glass ceiling?”
I’m assuming it’s because the barriers we face as women in the workforce often are invisible, intangible, unofficial and artificial. It’s that impenetrable barrier that keeps qualified individuals, like us, from ascending to higher level positions.
But, in my experience, the glass ceiling feels more like a dam. We SEE it, we just don’t know how to break it or get to the other side.
Our guest today is here to talk about both glass ceilings and sticky floors. Erica Rooney is an Executive Coach & Consultant, Chief People Officer - who is on a mission, to support women to break out of their “sticky floors”, and bust through the glass ceilings to live a life filled with purpose and passion.
Here’s what I know: You are so much more powerful than you think you are. When you stand in your power, you know what to do.

120 / Success Mindset with Melissa Froehlich
I don’t know about you but I am f#*!ing tired of the outdated, one sided definition of success that is all wrapped up in position and profit.
On today’s episode I invite you to redefine success on your own terms. Here to help us think through that is Melissa Froehlich - sought after business strategist, mentor and certified mindset coach - who works predominantly with women business owners who are looking to build not only profitable businesses, but ones that bring freedom and fulfillment.
What if income is just one piece of the success puzzle?
What does success mean to you? What does your life look like? How do you feel? Where do you spend your days and who do you spend them with? Only you have the answer, but knowing your answer is necessary.
Listen in here for part 2 of this conversation on Melissa’s podcast, The UpLevel Lounge.

119 / Time Management with Kelly Nolan
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, time management is crap.
Time is fixed and neutral, we all have the same 60 minutes in an hour, the same 24 hours in a day, the same 7 days in a week. Unless someone has figured out how to manipulate time, then time cannot be managed. So if it’s not time management, then why do some people seem to accomplish so much more? I’d suggest that it’s because those people have figured out the art of CHOICE management. They understand that their big differentiator is the choice they make with the time that they have.
On this episode I’ve asked Kelly Nolan - attorney-turned-time management strategist, to join us to share some of her tips for making choices with less stress and more calm. Her system, the Bright Method, has been featured in Bloomberg Businessweek, and her work has been published in Forbes, Parents, and Fast Company.
