Karen Rubinstein has more than two years of sobriety and had many years lost as an active alcoholic.

Growing up in New Jersey, within view of Manhattan, she dreamt of a life beyond suburbia with no idea what that was or how to attain it. She often said, “I felt everyone had a guidebook to life except me.”

Drinking helped her find her escape but eventually she hit “rock bottom” – frightened she was losing her mind, her health and even her soul. In 2020 she told her husband she had to go to detox, or she’d die.

After almost five months in rehab, Karen was introduced to the 12 Step program and finally found the coping skills she needed to live.

Born and raised in Manila, Philippines before relocating to Florida, Joanne is now an active duty Logistics Readiness Officer in the United State Air Force.  She is a staunch advocate for diversity and inclusion and promoting Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) heritage across various platforms.
