Autumn is finally ready to make a big, life-altering decision, and is rewarded by discovering her Nana June’s stunning 1930s party dress. Reading Nana June’s diary, she gets a hint of how people used to party and it’s far more exciting than she could have imagined.

Autumn begins to see her potential beyond the San Francisco area and looks to her Nana June for advice. Nana June herself was inspired to travel the world by some beloved mentors, awakening her wanderlust… and perhaps Autumn’s as well.

Autumn discovers an old movie theatre on Orchid Island and is eager to learn about its history from her great grandmother’s diary. As Nana June explains in her diary, the movies were very much a new technology in the early 20th century, full of promise and possibilities. Did the future end up being what Nana June expected?

We learn about Amelia, Nana June’s best friend, and Jack, the handsome pilot she’s beginning to develop feelings for.

Autumn lets us in on a personal secret… she’s burning out on her high-profile lawyer job. She doesn’t find it exciting, but doesn’t know how to leave such a prestigious career. Nana June has some advice, however. In a diary entry from 1910, Nana June explains all about a position she wasn’t satisfied with, and how she decided to do something different with her life.

Autumn explains some of her work stress involving a colleague who isn’t being as helpful as they could be. She finds inspiration in a story from one of Nana June’s days in nursing where she had to train another nurse on the front lines of World War I. Nana June also happens to meet a very handsome pilot.

Autumn Driver has returned to her old family estate on Orchid Island, just off the coast of New York. While resting in the old dilapidated mansion, Autumn finds something special: her great-grandmother’s diary.
