How is Kanplexity different to simply adopting Kanban as a stand alone framework?

How is Kanplexity different to simply adopting Kanban as a stand alone framework?

Kanplexity is an alternative approach to product development and project management developed by John Coleman - X Agility - with the purpose of helping executive and leadership teams increase organizational agility and competitive advantage.

The model uses kanban as an agile framework but isn't based exclusively on kanban, as many organizations do use as a standalone approach.

Kanplexity combines the best of project management, agile productd evelopment practices, and kanban to help teams navigate complexity and focus on building the most valuable products, in the most valuable way, at the most valuable time for both customers and the organization.

What does poor or ineffective leadership look like and what are the consequences of that?

What does poor or ineffective leadership look like and what are the consequences of that?

We often celebrate the great agile leaders that make impressive breakthroughs in product and customer markets. We look to the best in our industry and draw inspiration from their words, actions, and remarkable ability to create resilient, effective organizations in the face of adversity.

That said, we should also take time out to identify poor leadership and explore the consequences of that style of leadership. In many ways, there is a lot to learn from those who have truly dropped the ball and failed their teams, organization, and customers in every way.

How will UX and Design thinking influence how executives fund product development in the future?

How will UX and Design thinking influence how executives fund product development in the future?

In a simple or complicated environment, executives and #leadership teams know the answers upfront. They know a road needs to be built, they know how to build that road, how much it costs, and what steps are needed to build the road from point A to point Z.

This provides a degree of certainty and you can invest money knowing that what you build is valuable, necessary, and solves the problem effectively.

In a complex environment, we don't know what we don't know. We don't know how to solve the problem and we don't know if we can build the most effective solution. We only know once the solution has been built and once the problem has been solved, for sure.

So, how do you navigate complexity and work through a process of identifying what should be built, what problem should be solved, and how best to invest your money in product development?

What is the difference between a product, platform and a service?

What is the difference between a product, platform and a service?

In the context of scrum, it is important that the productowner is focused on building the most valuable product, and that the developers have a clear sense of what the product is, what a platform for value delivery might be, and what kind of services are necessary to deliver value.

What is value in agile?

What is value in agile?

Traditional project management tends to have a strong focus on efficiency, whilst #agile tends to have a strong focus on effectiveness. Efficiency is a strong focus on executing against a predetermined plan whilst optimizing resources. Effectiveness is a strong focus on building the most valuable product, in the most valuable way, at the most valuable time. So, in a nutshell, if project management is a focus on productivity whilst #agile is a focus on continuous delivery of value to a customer, what is value?

Why are there so few executive coaches in the agile industry?

Why are there so few executive coaches in the agile industry?

Since it's inception in 2001, #agile has come a long way. There are a number of great case studies that demonstrate the success of the approach, and there are phenomenal products and services that have been created using a variety of #agileframeworks. You do find that there is a lot of support at the individual and team level in the form of an #agilecoach or #agileconsultant, but that tends to dry up the more senior the leader or executive is in the organization. Why is that? If #agility actively needs #leadership and #executive teams to champion the transition, why are there so few executive coaches?

Jim Benson on "The Collaboration Equation", obeya rooms, humble hubris and building what people need

Jim Benson is back again on the Xagility podcast. This time we talk about his book "The Collaboration Equation", lessons from billion dollar construction projects, obeya rooms, humble hubris, building what people need as well as leadership structure and unachievable KPIs. Join us on this fun and informative episode! About Jim Benson: After three decades as a business owner, team leader, and employee in both companies and government agencies, Jim found there is one key factor in every organization. They take on more than we can finish. Almost every client (individual or organizational) Jim has worked with, regardless of vertical, is overworked. Being overworked means they don’t have time to pay attention to their work, its context, or their co-workers. This fosters hasty decisions made with a lack of information. These poor decisions create re-work, unnecessary emergencies, and unrewarding working conditions. Since writing Personal Kanban and winning the Shingo Research Award, Jim has had the good fortune to: * work with Fortune 10 companies, major world governments, and the most dynamic startups * monthly keynote conferences globally * be interviewed in major publications including Time, Newsweek, Wired, LifeHacker, The New York Times, the Times of London, Inc, and Businessweek. Tim Wigham on leadership, lessons from the Royal Marines, his career and his book "Moodset"

Tim Wigham on leadership, lessons from the Royal Marines, his career and his book "Moodset"

About Tim Wigham:

Tim believes that with strong leadership, a systematic approach, and stable technology, any competent team can achieve excellence.

Over the last ten years, he has completely immersed myself in the business of accelerated improvement; supporting leaders and teams in the energy sector, to unlock their potential and exceed their expectations.  He has also focused on accelerating his own improvement in the sport of CrossFit, applying the principles of “acceleration to automatic” in the areas of nutrition, preparation, training, and recovery.  In parallel he has read and listened to hundreds of performance related books, while also writing three of his own.

Tim strongly believe that any competent individual or team can unlock full potential by implementing the right system to the point where best-practice is automatic.   This requires mindset, method, and "moodset".  Mindset is led by leadership! It involves openness to possibility, openness to objective assessment, openness to coaching, and a belief in better. It includes optimism and resilience in equal measure. Mindset is critical for initiative, then essential for acceleration to automatic.
