Welcome to the 10 Minute Body Scan for Women, a guided meditation podcast that will help you relax and connect with your body. In this podcast, we will explore the power of mindfulness and body awareness as we take a journey through the different parts of our body.
The body scan is a powerful tool that helps us to focus on our body, and bring attention to the different sensations and feelings that arise. It is especially important for women, as we often struggle to prioritize our own self-care and tend to neglect our own needs in the midst of our busy lives.
During this 10-minute guided meditation, you will be gently guided through each part of your body, starting from the crown of your head all the way down to the tips of your toes. You will be encouraged to observe any sensations and feelings in your body without judgment, and to breathe into any areas of tension or discomfort.
As you move through this practice, you will deepen your connection with your body, and cultivate a sense of relaxation, inner peace and mindfulness. This practice is perfect for beginners who are new to meditation and body awareness, or for those who simply want to take a few minutes to tune in and recharge.

ABOUT ALICE
I have been with YogaBellies since September 2017. I have a diverse background prior to YogaBellies which includes working in museums to retail management then finally qualifying as an accountant at a big financial services firm, and leaving once I had my first child. I trained and launched YogaBellies Chilterns, now Yoga With Alice D during my first maternity leave. I have since had two further children and have navigated this, alongside covid, and transitioning from a franchisee to licensee with YogaBellies. I taught one pregnancy and women’s class initially and then expanded to mum & baby. I then added a further pregnancy class and started Nurture baby massage. I teach in Wendover, Halton and Tring in Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire.
UPCOMING EVENTS I have run one-off events from the outset, sometimes collaborating with others, sometimes run exclusively by myself. This year I am running monthly Friday Flourish evening retreats for women who can’t commit to regular classes or want to explore our monthly class themes further through movement and the mind.

Navigating Perimenopause: Understanding the Signs and Finding Relief Through Yoga
Did you know that technically, Menopause is just ONE day when you are exactly 12 months after your last menstrual period?
The majority of symptoms happen in the period of time leading up to this - Perimenopause - which can start as early as your mid-thirties!
Join me as I delve into the topic of perimenopause and explore the physical, emotional, and hormonal changes that women experience during this time. I'll discuss the common signs of perimenopause and how it can impact daily life. Additionally, I'll share how yoga can provide relief from the symptoms and promote balance in mind and body and how I've incorporated this into my new style of yoga for women over 35 through Menopause, YogaPause.
This is an episode not to be missed for women in their 30s, 40s and 50s and for anyone who wants to better understand this important stage of life and how best to prepare for and minimize the symptoms.

What Can I Do To Ease Menstrual Migraines Naturally?
In this episode, I'll look at natural ways to treat menstrual migraines and yoga postures and practices to help.
Approximately 70% of people who experience migraines are women, and often these are connected to certain times in their menstrual cycle - more specifically around menstruation. . Women are 3 x more likely to get migraines than men and research shows that almost 12% of women experience menstrual migraines at some point in their lives.
A ‘menstrual migraine’ is one type of migraine seen a lot by women. Other types of migraines are aura, migraine without aura and chronic migraine. Although you may be ‘lucky’ enough to suffer from all of these! There are also ‘menstrually related migraines’, which is when you can get migraines at any time of the month but your menses is also a trigger for more migraines.
Why Do They Happen?
When women suffer migraines, it's often related to changes in the levels of estrogen. Levels of estrogen drop immediately before the start of your period and may continue through the first few days. This kind of migraine mostly occurs during or after the time when the female hormones, estrogen and progesterone, have dropped to their lowest level.
Menstrual migraines are triggered by the drop in estrogen levels whereas other migraines can be triggered by a whole load of reasons such as stress, forgetting to eat, too much caffeine, or something else. Things like starting new hormonal birth control or using HRT during menopause can also trigger migraines, so if you’ve just started one of these treatments it could be worthwhile speaking to your doctor.

Some people may try to tell you that email marketing is dead but don’t believe them. From the dawn of the internet, building an email list has proven to be a vitally important way to stay in touch with your customers, clients, and prospects.
We’re going to walk through some strategies for adding new subscribers to your yoga business mailing list in the next 30 days. I highly recommend taking notes so that each step builds upon the last. However, don’t get overwhelmed thinking you have to implement these all at once! Every one of these strategies work, both alone and in conjunction with the other methods, so begin with the strategy that resonates with you most, then branch off and try the other methods after your first opt-in is in place.

Things to Look For When Buying a Yoga Mat
When most people start out with yoga, they tend to use the smelly studio mats provided in class (a haven for disease) or they buy a cheap and nasty exercise mat from Tesco, around the £10 mark. If you are still using a cheapy yoga mat it’s time to think again. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC), is one of the most toxic plastics, and you are exposing your body to vinyl chloride, a known carcinogen, as well as dioxins, phthalates and other scary substances that cause cancer and other developmental issues. These mats typically do not have a long lifespan, and when you toss them out, they go to a landfill where they will remain forever because they are not biodegradable. Yikes!
Even before I started teaching yoga, I learned the value of a good yoga mat, not only for my yoga practice, but for my health and my contribution to the environment. Why would you practice on a yoga mat that was damaging our planet and our health with every breath and every asana!

"I wanted a yoga class that wasn’t silent or intimidating. I wanted to learn how to practice safely during my period, during pregnancy, with my baby. I wanted to op all of this and relax at the end of my working day!
I wanted to meet like-minded women going through the same things as me – easy going women, who liked a laugh, aren’t holier than though, are trying to juggle all that life throws at them, but still retain their sanity and find a little bit of time to look after themselves.
I wanted to be motivated to MOVE, to eat right, to get some sleep, to socialize, to look after my family, see my friends and show myself a little bit of love."

Is the push towards natural birth just as bad as pushing intervention? Cheryl talks about Why One Size Doesn't Fit All In Childbirth
Over the centuries, birth has grown to become the most dreaded event in a women’s life.
In today’s media, frequent images of pain, blood and screaming are being seen as the standard of childbirth today. Programmes such as One born every minute perpetuate this image of birth, traumatising us further by making it appear to be the real life insight into birth. The majority of women have come to expect massive trauma while giving birth. This has pushed many of us towards taking advantage of the medical world’s range of interventions now available: Choosing from a veritable buffet of drugs or opting to miss out on vaginal birth altogether and electing to have baby birthed through Caesarean section.
In more recent years however, we have begun to see a resurgence of women seeking to find out more about birthing naturally across the Western World. Women everywhere, are attempting to reclaim their birth right: To birth without intervention, without drugs and often birthing out-with the hospital environment or even in water.
As pregnant women, we are seeing natural, alternative or holistic birthing options becoming more mainstream and more widely available to us. Different mediums allow us to educate ourselves on the non-medical aspects of birthing, through the internet, books, TV and film. More and more of us are aware of the work of doulas (birth companions), many training formally to become birth companions and even assisting other women in this way. This inspiring push towards reclaiming birth is finally, allowing us to have real options and to make decisions about our own experience of birth, out with the generally accepted model of hospital birth. This is all fantastic news, but has it gone too far, pushing women towards feeling inadequate if they don’t choose to birth naturally?

Real-life pregnancy can come as a bit of a shock, even if the pregnancy has been planned. I know, having wanted a baby for years and having worked with women who had beautiful pregnancies and births, I was quite taken aback by the often nauseating realities of pregnancy.
I had envisioned myself floating around in white yoga clothing, cradling my growing bump, looking serene and bonding with my baby in utero, as I had often heard from other mothers. I did not see myself with my head in a bucket every day, carrying a quicky sick bag everywhere for the majority of my pregnancy, which turned out to be the reality of the situation.

The fact is that yoga actually makes you happier. The ‘love hormone’ Oxytocin helps you to relax and reduces blood pressure and cortisol levels. Yoga is now well recognised as one of the ways to encourage the body to release this amazing hormone and built in anti-stress mechanism.
When the various limbs of yoga are practised, oxytocin is released. Deep breathing warms the body, and warmth is one of the key elements that allow us to release Oxytocin. By taking the body through the practice of yoga asana (postures) we warm the muscles and joints, make the physical body more comfortable and relaxed. By then continuing the practice with savasana (deep relaxation) and meditation, we encourage the production of oxytocin even further.

What is YogaBellies?
YogaBellies offer yoga classes and ethical products for women at every stage of their lives, including pregnancy and post-partum with baby. Our yoga is not just for pregnant ladies, it’s for all women and we have clients as young as 14 and old as 100! We offer yoga for women from menstruation to post menopausal.

Time and time again when we speak to YogaBellies clients, we discover that we all pretty much want the same things from our lives:

• We’re trying to stay fit and try to maintain some kind of exercise routine;
